I've repaired/replaced a fair few DC power jacks on various laptops. Sometimes it's just one or more of the pins going through the board that have broken and are loose in the hole. Either replacing the socket or re soldering usually sures the problem. Might be worth stripping down a laptop to see if this is the case.

I'm setting up a couple of Samsung 300U netbook/laptops. 4Gb ram, Intel 967 CPU. 320Gb hard drive, BT, webcam. Speedy little machines. Just a little over the £300 ex vat limit though, but not by much.

Doesn't the keyboard pop put after undoing a crew or two from the bottom ? There look to be tabs on the new keyboard at the bottom, so perhaps some sort of clip above the keyboard on the laptop that needs to be pushed out of the way.

Another recomendation for the Dell Outlet. I've sorted loads of people out with laptops from there, never had any problems with them.

Remove the hard drive and try again. Also try a different processor if you have one.

Try removing the hard drive and cd/dvd rom before tying the power on. I've also had a laptop that didn't do anything and that was due to a dead hard drive.

Check for damaged USB ports, i've had laptops and PCs that won't turn on due to a shorted pin.

I've not had much success with tenda stuff in the past. Last time i set up a Tenda router it took longer than i'd have liked. Have you checked the router is connecting to your ISP ? there is normally a tab in the menu to check connection uptime etc.

I recently had install problems with Windows 7 x64. it would throw up a read error. I tried new DVD rom, new cables, different media etc. I had to remove one of the two sticks of memory before it would install even though Memtest shows them as fine.

The newer motherboards use lead free solder that requires extra heat. A decent temperature controlled soldering iron is a big help.
