Superglue and toilet paper holds brass captive nuts firm. I've repaired consumer grade laptops that kids use and it's still holding strong. Hot glue also works as it gives a bit of flex, just don't be shy with it. Most laptops need servicing/checking regularly, screws work loose over time with bumps and bangs.

It's usually the electrolytic capacitors in the 360 that cause random freezing. They filter the power to the CPU.

I don't think there is a way to easily chance the UUID/GUID if there is no BIOS update but there does seem to be a way round it. With a hotplate (electronics type not dinner) set at 80c and the iPad face down, you'll have the screen off in 5 minutes with minimum mess. Check the hard drive first, if it's a Seagate or WD I'd suspect oxidized contacts between the PCB and drive. Bad memory possibly, run memtest to check, both will cause random slowness. If it's not hardware then it's onto diagnosing the OS, drivers and software Are all the drivers installed correctly ? Chipset and Intel rapid Storage being the common ones missed if relying on Windows to find the correct ones. Task manager will show which part of your PC is causing the issue, it's usually either maxed out CPU or hard drive from experience. I've seen a few issues with Windows update being broken also causing slowness.

I would think ICTDirect or one of it's entities would have their own license but understand how waste is turned into non waste (it's one of the things I do). The definition of waste from gov.uk "A material is considered to be waste when the producer or holder discards it, intends to discard it, or is required to discard it." Clearly it is waste as the school wants to dispose of it but you propose to classify it as assets and sell off cheap to a business even though they have demonstrated a lack of understanding of the law. Even if they are classed as school assets, aren't there procedures and paperwork in place for this sort of thing ? A school selling off a load of assets on the cheap smells funky to me.

If it's not classed as waste why is the school disposing of it ? When you purchase kit from suppliers it's not waste you're purchasing.

Sorry, but nothing like buying from a boot sale. He is an IT business and this is WEEE waste, therefore he needs a waste handling license. The school would also be liable for not disposing of the waste properly. No ifs, buts or selling for £1. The law is very clear. He needs a license to transport waste, buy, sell or dispose of waste or arrange for someone else to buy, sell or dispose of waste. I know, as I have one.

A slightly different scenario to yours but I provide 8 laptops for a customer of mine who runs a training centre. They are two boxes of four laptops. Whilst I can lift 6 in a box, 8 would be too heavy. They are HP CQ61 so not the lightest or smallest of laptops, I drive an estate car with a big boot, four boxes would not fit without the seat going down. I have an 8 gang extension socket to they are used and charged at the same time. No issues with wireless, they key was entered once. I have business insurance on my car and my specialist area is laptop/hardware repairs although in the two years I've been doing it there's been no damage, but then these are adults I'm dealing with.

Were they all on the same old BIOS before updating ? Some systems won't accept the latest update and need an intermediate one applying first.

A couple of things you could try, I don't know if they are applicable with this laptop but I've encountered them in the past. A supervisor password is required to be set and/or secure boot needs to be disabled and the settings saved then the UEFI entered for a second time before the setting can be set.

No, I was meaning the media was perhaps making the situation with the kids seem worse, hence spurning Musk into action. Edited, thanks. Musk also punted the idea of inflatable tubes the boys could clamber through. Yeah, the metal canister idea is wild/stupid/too big, but Musk followed through and produced, he at least tried. The media perhaps making the situation seem worse than it was.

It wasn't a sub. It was a sealable metal tube with handles on, not much bigger than a child laying down, make from part of a Falcon rocket and apparently with measurements from Thailand. Musk tends to over exaggerate with his naming. Was it to big or unsuitable, who knows ? But I like the fact he actually did something even if it was PR. They are internet facing though. Malware laden apps are a different security risk to a non updated Android though although some malware makes use of unpatched vulnerabilities.
