If the graphics card has been removed then it will give strange beeps. Does the graphics card require a power cable of some sorts ? maybe check the ram in another PC ? And to rule out a dodgy power switch remove it and short the 2 pins with a screwdriver.

I replaced a digitiser on an ipaq a few years ago. I had to warm up the edges with a hairdryer to soften the glue then split the seal with a scalpel blade. The new one was warmed up which help reactivate the glue.

I reported a bug concerning Impero and multiple monitors, got an email back with a few minutes letting me know they were aware of the bug and it would be fixed next update. The bug doesn't happen any more. Nice chaps to, met them and had a chat at Bett.

Remove the board and bench test, i've seen a few over the years that don't boot, due to screws and other metal objects shorting the board and the case.

Hard drive ? i've had a faulty one once that stopped the pc from booting up. It seems you've swopped nearly everything else.

Dell happily posted us out new keyboards under warranty when the keys "fell off". They let us keep the old ones as well, so we had plenty of spares.

Cheers laserblazer, i've had another coffee and had a thought. Our AV technician transfers DV tapes to DVDR using a capture card. I'm hoping this will work.

Live Essentials doesn't want to install for me, and the camera i am using for playback has no settings for audio. The sound dissapears when one performance ends and the new one starts. I think the camera settings or even camera was changed and this has different audio settings. Not sure a way round it.

I've imported a load of DV tapes for a department here. Normally i don't have a problem, however 2 have a weird sound issue. The avi file plays fine, however at a certain point the sound disappears for the rest of the video. the thing is, i can hear the sound coming out of the camera for the entire playback. I've tried a different camera, and have used both DVIO and WINDV for importing the video and still no change. Can anyone shed and light as to what is going on ? cheers Michael

Then it's either physical damage to destroy the data or a hard drive degausser, which aren't cheap. When i wiped our old laptops here, i burned off 5 copies of DBAN and ran them over night.

K series engines were and still are famous for the head gaskets failing, regardless of what vehicle they are fitted to. They are just as unreliable as the scare stories suggest. I spent my fair share of time as a mechanic repairing a fair few, and the main dealer opinion is you're lucky to make it to 50k without it failing.

Do all 3 now not work ? If you have one that works, see if driver magician will find the drivers for transfer to the non working PC.

Did the audio work before it was formatted ? I've encountered several times onboard sound that has died.

Thanks for all the input everyone, whilst i'd be happy to replace the "defective" internals due to leaky capacitors, vandalism, power surges and water damage, i don't think the powers that be here would be to happy. At least i've done my bit to try and save some money.

The key on the PC case has never been used or registered, does this still apply ?

We are looking to upgrade a couple of our IT suites. We have volume licensing here and the computer cases have XP oem license stickers on them. Can we remove the old motherboards and hardrives and upgrade them to something faster without buying a new license, or do we need to buy new licenses for each machine. cheers Michael
