  1. We still have sights down.. last update was they have more people investigating... This is shockingly bad!
  2. Hi Luke, Any chance of advertising the salary? I just read "competitive" as "minimum wage plus 1%". Cheers
  3. National cinema day.... Jeeesus! When did that start!!?! Soon we will need a "National, nothing national day" to give us a break from it all!
  4. Great Opportunity to Join a fast growing IT department. Free Tea & Coffee included! Senior Trust IT Technician - English Martyrs' | St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Multi-Academy Trust (aquinas-cmat.org)
  5. Also nothing wrong with a bit of free speech.. this is a public forum... No harm in people wanting to ask for a bit more background to a problem or asking why a more popular solution doesnt work for them. Microsoft would have you copying and pasting via some weird menu option... We would say Ctrl C and Ctrl V.. same outcome.. just a more effective route.. Sometimes people don't know other options exist! In this case.. them posts pushing cloud gave the OP a bit more confidence and ammunition to convince the school to go cloud.. that's exactly what this forum is about if you ask me!
  6. Thanks Dave! We have bought the roaming bolt on! Would be good to talk about how maybe we can apply your filtering to starlink? If that is at all possible!
  7. We looked into a backup line for all our schools, but just a standard 80/20 at each school (21) came to nearly 15k a year.. which seemed a lot of "just in case money" We are about to start running a trial with starlink as our backup line. Which is just over £1200 per year for the business non fixed location option. With leased lines we expect minimal downtime, but if one goes down we can drive out and setup the starlink. Idea is to have a site up within 30-60 minutes. It's a trial for now, but I suspect we may adapt the plan to have a proper backup line for the secondary schools and then have starlink for the primary schools, as secondary schools are more reliant.

  9. When I tried papercut hive out you had to use your mobile to release prints. Is that still the case? Sorry.. I know that's a bit off track here. In terms of reseller.. I think we trialed it through RVS, or Anglotech as they are now called.
  10. We have been very impressed with Viewsonic. We go for 75" in the classrooms and 85" in the halls. You can also get an MDM portal that allows you to remotely control the boards - including powering them on and changing the source of the screen! That had me sold!
  11. We have nearly 500 devices. We went with: Cloud UniFi - Let us host your UniFi Controller
  12. We have moved a few of our primary schools over to cloud - as and when things have failed. After 4 successful migrations, we now have a good platform and are moving the bulk of our other primary schools over. Our model is: Broadband: @SchoolsBroadband - Leased line, Hosted Firewall and filtering DNS & DHCP: Asked @SchoolsBroadband to enable these on our router (Downside is no local access to this) MIS: Arbor Staff Shares: SharePoint User Areas: OneDrive Wireless & Switches: Unifi - We use Cloud Unifi for our controller: Cloud UniFi - Let us host your UniFi Controller (So much easier than the cloud keys) Endpoint management: Endpoint Manager Printing: Canon Uniflow (hosted) - no VPN's, can print over the internet The only thing I'm not a fan of in this setup, is not having access to DHCP myself.. I don't see why this setup wouldn't replicate over to our secondary schools and providing the bulk migration goes well, I hope to start moving our secondary's next summer.
  13. Just IT. Staff save passwords in edge. That way if they use another machine or we wipe the laptop.. just a case of signing in and then woola!
  14. I have just bought some of these with AMC - Dan - 01536 526687 - [email protected] Give them a go
  15. Always had a good relationship with AMC - Dan - 01536 526687 - [email protected] Very competitive pricing, top level service!

  18. We have 19 sites.. over 300 ubiquiti AP's. What resources do you think it would need.
  19. Where do you see 500 devices option?
  20. Just to resurrect this old post.. did you pick an option in the end. I looked at Hosti-fi, but it just works out the wrong pricing bracket for us.. I need about 500 devices..
  21. I think the "plenty of people trying to board planes" - although true - I think these are people who already booked holidays (before or during covid) and are only just getting them holidays in. So they are spending previously allocated money if that makes sense. Could be wrong. These are just guess's
  22. My thinking is the exact opposite of this! The cost of living is so high now, I think people will stay local as possible over the summer to save money, in the hope that things start to normalise.
  23. Trust IT Technician (+ R&R allowance of £2,500) (Based at English Martyrs' School) | St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Multi-Academy Trust (aquinas-cmat.org) Hi all, New post for one of our secondary schools. Just to confirm, this post is based at English Martyrs and doesn't include travel. Thanks, Matt
  24. Maybe, behind the red door it?
  25. We are a trust of 22 Schools - primary and secondary. We have logged various things.. although it is more my team than myself.. My colleague got a IP unblocked in less than 2 minutes call time though.. Trust me.. i'm the first to moan at these companies.. but I don't think I can fault them currently!
