[ipad] Recovering lost/disabled ipads without Wifi
RLR replied to Jamman960's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We use this a lot. Especially with lost mode. I have had one or 2 times where it doesn't work but most of the time it does. This diagram might be of some use which I found. -
We've not use shared iPads yet but you will need to re-enroll all your iPads again if you want to use the shared iPad feature as it's part of the DEP Prestage Enrolment when the iPad is initially setup. You will also need to make sure all your students are setup with a Managed Apple ID in ASM and sync it to your MDM. You can do away with the Unique apple ID's and use device based vpp assignment if you have managed app licenses. It will be a fair bit of work if you need to set ASM up from scratch as you'll have to get all the data you need to upload from your MIS. I can't comment on the airwatch groups as we use Casper Pro but MDMs tend to be very similar. This might be of some help: https://macmule.com/downloads/LondonAppleAdmins091116.pdf

Another thing to add is to check you have the latest version of MDT : https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msdeployment/2016/11/14/microsoft-deployment-toolkit-8443-now-available/

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I had to apply the fix on this page: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e4418f2d-cf0b-4a76-8f2d-8f776d004c24/capture-image-is-missing-from-mdt-8443?forum=mdt

Check your rules and see if you have: DoCapture=YES ComputerBackupLocation=NETWORK BackupShare=\\server\DeploymentShare$\Captures BackupDir=%OSDComputerName%

Can the permissions in Team Drives be more Granular? Currently we have to give full access to Team drive areas as the "Edit Access" doesn't allow users to move files. It would be good if we can create our own levels. Also, there is a date on when users will be able to create their own team drives in which Admin's can't stop/turn off. I think it would be a good idea to allow admins to manage this themselves.

[sims] What's the sentiment toward Hosted SIMS currently?
RLR replied to speckytecky's topic in MIS Systems
We are a foundation of 6 schools ranging from ages 3-18. Our student count is roughly 1300 with around 300 staff spread across the sites. We have one SIMS database that controls all schools. -
[sims] What's the sentiment toward Hosted SIMS currently?
RLR replied to speckytecky's topic in MIS Systems
We've had hosted SIMS with Scomis for the past 2 years. It's been very reliable and stable. It certainly helps when there are sims upgrades as the IT team no longer have to run solus/push updates which was always an issue (atleast with solus 2/3 for a while) -
Best and greatest method for network O/S Deployment...?
RLR replied to Zezima's topic in How do you do....it?
As above. Windows Deployment Services (WDS) is your best bet. You can combine it with MDT if you wish to have control over a few more things but not necessary for a small environment. -
Seems to be aimed at classrooms with the lower price. Although they're saying $329 dollars = £329! New 9.7-inch iPad features stunning Retina display and incredible performance - Apple

Might be worth trying Apple Configurator 2. Right click iPad and select Restore.

If you change your MX record it will redirect all your email to Gmail which you said you don't want. Are your users google email addresses their school email address? Or is their google email address different (meaning they have 2 email addresses where 1 is just acting as a username to sign into google?) If the google email address is different, you can setup the MX record for this so it doesn't affect your school email but that would mean they'll have to check 2 lots of email. 1 Just for google notifications.
-
I'm not too sure on this as we've always been fully google. Are you signing in to google with your school email addresses? The school email address will just act as a username if you haven't setup your external dns to go to gmail.
-
The email will go to the owner of the document. Emails should still go to your usual email account (not gsuite email) as this will be controlled by your MX Records on your external DNS provider.

We've kitted out a lot of rooms now with tvs. We went with domestic ones as the price increase for commercial was too large. We've had no issues so far and our Junior School have had them for over a year now.

Google Chrome Addons Group Policy Deplyoment Issue
RLR replied to FN-GM's topic in Enterprise Software
I pushed this same extension out last week using: idkloemkmldbemijiamdiolojbffnjlh;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx Might be worth checking if you need any updated google admx files. -
There's a few nice features in Exam Write Pad. I like the autosave mostly as we've used Word Pad in the past and although invigilators are told to tell their students to save, this doesn't always happen and have had students lose work in the past.

[ipad] Classroom APP / MDM is Lightspeed
RLR replied to kennysarmy's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I've heard they are also releasing the ability to create ad-hoc classrooms. So teachers can create their own classroom on the go. I believe this is going to be in 10.3. -
Apple can do this. You no longer need to provide proof of ownership if the iPad is in DEP.

Clippy Is Back, And This Time It's Coming For Your Browser
RLR replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
Just created a GPO to push this out to one of my IT colleagues. Would be good for April fools also but that falls on a weekend this year! -
For just 5 ipads I would use Profile Manager which is the free one that Apple Create.

We see this every so often. We've even added a desktop icon to run displayswitch.exe /clone. We're not sure why it happens but we have have a vga switch box to switch between PC and Ipad. Doesn't happen often but we do see it. Never found an answer for it. This is on windows 7 machines also.

Is it possible for machines to be bitlockered automatically during imaging or just after imaging. I've tried googling but not coming back with much luck.
