VOIP call quality issues
bald_pig replied to Green_Goblin's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
What was your internal network usage like? If you had 5 IT suites accessing a lot of files internally you could have a switch getting congested and dropping packets? -
My napkin maths suggests that this will cost the government £82,000,000 based on the figures of the Monarch airline collapse.

I've setup RMUnify sync and I'm concerned.

My understanding is you can't get the password from AD, whatever is authenticating salts and hashes your password, sends that to the ad server, and gets back either a token or an error code. -
If it's out of warranty, and the manufacturer has stopped supporting it, then it's probably old enough that it's worth replacing anyway for piece of mind. I'd be budgeting to replace OOW/discontinued equipment where I can, and keep the old stuff for emergency replacements if there's a problem elsewhere.

They have a few old operating systems to play around in as well.

And secondly, if the NAS had been set with a static ip address it wouldn't have had a lease...
-
Unplug the NAS from the network, connect it directly to your machine, set your machines ip to be in the same range, then connect, log on, set to dhcp, unplug from your machine and back onto the network.

Is it not something you can use the free developer emulator for?

The insurance would have more to lose if they gave them back and they caused a fire, so I reckon you're probably alright.
-
PTRG, Spiceworks, Zabbix can do this, there are many more.

tbh I'd do what I do with any other piece of unsupported 5-7 year old piece of electrical equipment and get it replaced with something newer!
-
It's more noticeable in stuff like fast-paced FPS games, MOBAs aren't really affected

3rd Gen Apple TV's failing to install latest update
bald_pig replied to kennysarmy's topic in Hardware
The Apple TV version and the iOS versions are not the same thing. If you look in the table of versions here, you'll see that Apple TV 7.3 is actually iOS 8.4.2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TvOS#iOS_8 -
Input lag isn't the issue, it's smearing/ghosting. This video has some examples

Gonna have to disagree with you on that one, IPS panels have the worst pixel response times, VA is a compromise but I'd be looking at a decent TN panel, you can get reasonably accurate colours and a fast pixel response.

bald_pig replied to Dos_Box's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
I hold the dubious honour of stopping the every tube station song on the first line, by cheering as he named our local station I'm guessing it hadn't happened before, as he cracked up laughing and had to start again! -
