Xibo and display screen questions
benjaminstevens93 replied to JordanT91's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Xibo server is web based so you could literally run it off a cheap web hosting package. -
Only thing I can recommend is checking the permissions. You might be able to browse to it (read) but not write. Also make sure the Distributed File System client is not disabled.

If you setup the iPad how you want it, then take a backup, then you can restore that backup to other iPads. Take a look at Meraki for mobile device management, Configurator is only really good at applying a few settings and supervising the ipads.

Digital AUP's - How do you do it?
benjaminstevens93 replied to The_IT_Guy's topic in How do you do....it?
We use Policy Central here which has the feature built into it. -
MS or Google accounts for Y7 - 8 pupils?
benjaminstevens93 replied to TheBinMan's topic in Educational Software
I know our students create google accounts to use with app inventor and we've never had a problem here. I think either will be fine -
Hello mate, I can also confirm that we had the same issue here when moving to Windows 7. All the computers worked until IE11 went out from our WSUS server, which was solved by a registry update deployed through group policy. I will take a look at our policy and show you on Monday if that's ok?

Hello all, I really hope someone can help me here... Since I started here Policy Central has never worked properly. When I first started, the web based console would constantly throw SQL errors at me when I tried to review reports. This hasn't happened in a while, but what i'm experiencing now is it being really really slow. Some times it appears to load instantly, but sometimes it can take a very long time to get into the web based console. Having to sit there and wait whilst it loads. Anyone got any ideas? Would really appreciate it if someone can help. I have logged a call with Link2ICT, but they dont seem to be too bothered. I have asked for them to remove it from the server and then install it again, but I've been told I'd have to wait for to happen. How hard would it be to do that myself? Though I would rather just try and fix the problem rather than reinstalling. Many thanks.

Our internet is provided through link2ict/ bgfl in our birmingham school. Since purchasing iPad's last year we have had so many problems with download apps and updating ios on them. We was given an alternative proxy by link2ict which worked for a little while, but now appears to be dead. I've logged a call but had no reply. Has anyone else had this problem? Or found a solution?

Yeah most likely that, half of the reports I go through are comments being picked up on a website, rather than the kid typing the word itself.

Yeah it's mainly things like games, youtube etc. Things that cause a hassle for ICT teachers.

Our school has had Policy Central for a few years now but I've only recently had time to get it working properly. The issue we are having is that if I select the categories that I think should be blocked, like pornography and games etc, it seems to block other things too. I had a teacher email me earlier saying his class couldn't get on BBC Good Food, for some reason this was blocked and I had to manually add to this the allowed list. Is there a website or anyone that has a CSV list which all the websites that should be blocked, and that gets updated frequently that I could import into PCE, rather than using the categories? Hopefully someone can help!

Started a new job last week and I'm kinda liking the setup we have here. We share a room with the resources manager and school events manager. The room also has the photocopiers in it. Can get busy at times with staff coming in to photocopy and to speak to other staff, but it's friendly and vibrant. There is a hatch that students go to, where they can ask for assistance, staff just come into the office. At my last school we had our own office, where staff and students weren't allowed in and had to come to the 'hatch' if they needed assistance. What do you do at your school?

We also use Sophos endpoint security and control, provided by the local authority. I'll second galway by saying that we've not had any problems with it either. When I started there was a few machines with viruses and policy issues, but that was solved easily by clicking a few buttons. I also like the clean look of the console.

Yeah as mjs_mjs said, you definitely need both

Yeah turn off Reopen Last Browsing Session in group policy.

I'm pretty sure we had the following when my school had a radio station: PRS: Limited Online Music licence (LOML) PPL: Small Webcaster Licence Ours was broadcast across the internet and through the local intranet, so may differ slightly in licensing. But as your basically 'streaming' it should be the same, and would cover you if you ever wanted to put the stream on the school website. The only thing I would say is that it needs to be 'live' and that the audience cannot influence their listening experience by, for example, skipping tracks or pausing the broadcast.

Routing traffic, what to do?

I agree with Matthew. Home plugs will do the trick!
