The interesting debate with ITIL on this topic years ago anyway was is a password reset an incident OR a service request?

Is your SLA working to the assumption you've had adequate and prior notice of things like moves, new starters etc though in order to plan resources, logistics etc? Otherwise I can't see how it will be achieved (generally speaking) as we know what planning in schools is like.

Managing Expectations. Stuff that's broken and needs fixing - first come first served also tied in with WHO and WHAT and HOW it affects. E.g. A kids password is more important to me despite admin saying they're more important needing that new toner ASAP as "they can't print" (Read they can print to other printers, but don't want to) Stuff that you want but don't need - takes longer. Some stuff we have to go away and figure out out.

Honestly not had any positive experiences with any providers who do this in all the years. Cunninghams - begrudgingly came out to issues. The whole setup looked like something created in their garage in their spare time and bodge after bodge. LiveRegister - surly support staff, very unhelpful. Recently someone got told "they were busy as they look after a lot of schools".

Hi All, After some thoughts on people's MDM solutions for schools and their feedback - MDM's for Android and iPad/iOS. Reading through the forums there's a mixture of different ones e.g. Mosyle, Lightspeed (used very briefly previously and didn't seem to work properly) but not one that seems to be 'one size fits all' sort of thing. We need something ideally to lock down and manage/deploy apps for: Initially Android Tablets (Stop in school) iPads (Stop in school but some staff ones that would leave site and go home with staff) but also potentially at some point: Android Phones iPhones This is to manage stuff that's already there and InTune seems a bit advanced at the moment and a big learning curve. Also to manage, purchase and deploy apps. What is everyone's thought's and feedback on these systems? Thanks

Tried and failed with this. No-one in Pastoral who should have been interested, was bothered to update things or show an interest. YMMV. What screens are you using out of interest?

Have you got power and data in the same power pole? Had them previously in another role but they were a bit meh

OK, Need to bounce an idea off others here - If there are a number of desks in the middle of a room, what options are there for running cabling to them for data and power? PCs and VoIP/PoE Phones * raised/false floor * chasing the floor out/concrete channel * trailing cables from wall to desks (and H&S issue) * push them to the side of the wall and use the existing setup * ceiling pole with data and power? Are those pretty much the only options? Thanks

Flash went EOL as we know. I Know I told our staff to update their resources and gave them months and months of notice to do so and ergo flash is now unsupported and so are any subsequent apps.

I've used the traditional 'client-side' mail-merge twice today, for things I needed to do. No reason why I couldn't have done it online if OneDrive and MS supported it.

I've often looked for this too and gone back to the old way of doing it. Really surprising that the combo of Excel, Word and Office 365 all online and cloud cannot do this in 2021

Green for good/done/sorted. Red for damaged/needs repair. Shelves sorted by in-warranty/out of warranty kit. That's what I've used, works well.

One excellent tip someone gave me is masking tape - label the kit with masking tape. Works extremely well, I brought loads of it and it all gets used and doesn't fall off like post its or stickers/address labels.

This sadly mirrors my experience with Groupcall services since 2019. I was impressed by the setup and how it worked. However my experience of support since 2019 has not been very positive, if at all. Only a fellow member here managed to help me. Wonde have taken over their services for the most part and far superior it seems

Better than the ones who go round testing stuff and only when you've been in a classroom found they've failed something and nobody bothered to tell IT about it. Or the ones were stuff was failed, removed and again nobody told IT - as it was a VGA splitter PSU which affected lessons, that was the first we'd heard about it Or the ones where the plastic plug 'passed' yet attempting to remove it from the wall socket the plastic had become so brittle and fragile with age, it just fell apart exposing the circuitry? How on earth did that get passed? Why is IT always the last to know lol?

Been wearing shorts and a polo t-shirt since after may half-term. When the site team can and the PE staff can wear joggers, trainers, shorts etc all year round why can't IT?

All of the above. 1) Peace and quiet 2) Time to crack on with jobs that have been waiting since last summer or the past 10-months to get done. 3) No interruptions every...5.... minutes. 4) Most productive time of the year.

How is Mosyle with the various devices, Android, iPad etc for those using it? Always found MDM's lacking and seemed they favoured one over the other.

Really, really....REALLY wanted to love Windows 10. Whilst it's an improvement in a few ways e.g. snap windows to 4x tiles etc, it just seems to have been a experiment that has failed big-time. Scripts to remove crap e.g. Candy Crush that seems to be baked into the core of the OS Updates we seem to have very little control of (I know we can use WSUS etc) Removal of Control Panel etc forcing people into the Settings app, which just gives up in parts and loads the Control panel anyway lol Telemetry we don't know what data is being sent where etc. Just for a start ...

We're in the same position and waiting for the decision to be made on funding etc. Mostly 4:3 Smartboards,with 1024 x 768 projectors and having to compromise on a 19" widescreen monitor. Some have Full HD TVs etc but in the minority. Long upgrade programme. That's ace and sounds like good progress being made. I tried the dual-screen setup with 2x TFTs on the desk and a TV on the wall and got very mixed results. No-one seems interested in progressing it other than me. Even with the benefits of showing a video to class on one screen and having something the teacher is doing on the other screen.

My personal preference is LG Commercial TVs. However I use the in-built timer or the HDMI-CEC controls for it. Some of the features of some of the commercial TVs are OTT for our purposes but they're the only ones rated for hours of usage we need. Though we've had some Hannspree TVs going 8-12x hours a day that were still working and I thought they'd long since failed and have surprised me.
