  1. I know you moved your home dirs to a new server like i did but have you run the latest microsoft updates on the machines? we did in the summer and im wondering if this may be something to do with it? I may be barking up the wrong tree!!! Im going to reboot my 3 DCs in half an hour and ill see if that has any effect. Ive also notice today that sometimes even a restart of the station doesn't sort it. it may even take about 4 or 5 restarts!!
  2. i dont get any errors just the drive not appearing. I recreated the students GPO and it made things better although i still get the odd on or two that dont get the network drive. Very Strange and doing my head in!!!
  3. I know this may not help but i have recreated the gpo for the students and i will see if thats had an effect.
  4. Yes. It seems strange that its only happened after I installed a 2008 r2 dc and I migrated the students home dir and share to 2008 r2 server. Have you any ideas?
  5. Update: sometimes a reboot of the station will work but other times it wont!
  6. Hi Im having a very strange problem where the students login script doesn't get applied to all students despite the batch file being in the user account profile. It only seems to happen occasionally and not to everyone. The batch just maps a share to the students shared directory. During the summer i added a 2008 R2 DC to my existing 2 2003R2 DC's so not sure if this it causing problems. Has anyone else had the same problems? Many Thanks
  7. So the best way forward is not to redirect the AppData folder?
  8. Thanks Sysnak!! A possible bug then??
  9. Thanks Ric I had to edit the desktop.ini files permissions to "deny read" for administrators in the user home directory, to stop the users directory renaming back to "My Documents" Do you think this would be the cause?
  10. Hi I have recently built a brand new Server 2008 R2 Domain with all windows 7 clients. One thing i am experiencing with the laptops is that when the user logs they have a few syncronisation conflicts and a couple of errors. These seem to relate to system data not office documents etc. (See Attachments). I redirect the "My Documents" along with the Appdata and start menu to the the My Documents areas. Is there a way of stoping these conflict that come up on user login? Many Thanks
  11. Now sorted. I simply edited the security of the desktop.ini file to administrators - Read only
  12. Hi Not sure if this has been experienced by anyone else but ive just built a new server 2008 R2 domain with windows 7 client and using folder redirection for My Documents, and the folder name for the user keeps changing back to My Documents instead of the user name. Has anyone else had the same issue? If so how have you resovled it? Many Thanks
  13. Ive now sorted it. Works like a charm!!
  14. Ive managed to get the script working but as a User login script or startup script it just says permision denied line 54 char 1. Is this because i dont have the correct permission on the c: drive? Im not using xcacls
  15. Thanks Maniac. Ill give that a go!!!! would this script go in the machine startup or user login?
  16. Your a star!! Thanks Maniac
  17. Can i have a copy of your script? I may have to test this ASAP as 15 mins to log on is a bit ridiculus!!! Thanks Maniac
  18. How would you update the shortcuts for the start menu if they were redirected locally?
  19. Do you redirect your start menus, desktop to a central location? Im not sure if it is just purely the amount of traffic as we have a 12 port extricom switch with around 20 staff laptops connected and then 30 students laptops are also trying to connect. Thanks
  20. We use extricom but i cant help think i may be a problem with the way the users profiles are setup? do you think its because all the students are trying to access the same location for the start menu and desktop? Should these folders have write access to them? Thanks nephilim
  21. Hi nephilim Whats your current setup to acheive this? Our loging times are awfull over the wireless. We dont use roaming profiles, just folder redirection. All students desktops are redirected to one location and is read only, the same with the start menu and Application data is local. Desktops are ok with login time but laptops can take upto 15mins!!!! The problem most of the time is the startmenu not showing up for ages! Thanks
  22. Defo for vanila here and save a ton of cash. Only down side is getting IT staff with the skills already without spending loads of time training them myself!
  23. Thanks Pooley Did you have to reboot the 2003R2 DC once you ran the commands? Also as we run exchange 2007, there arenlt any problems that you are aware of with this in doing updating the schema?
  24. Hi Ive been reading a few posts on here about this but still not 100% on how to go about it. Am i right in saying that before i do anything, i have to upgrade the schema on the 2003 R2 DC that has all the roles on by running adprep which is found on the 2008r2 disk? I also saw that some people has said they can't find this file on the disk, not sure if other have the same problem. Are there 2 versions of the adprep.exe? one for 32bit and one for 64bit? I take it i would have to run the 32bit version? If anyone has a step by step guide, it would help me out massively! Thanks
  25. It turns out that they had given me the MAK key not the KMS key so got them to send the KMS key for 2008r2 and windows 7. Would i have to change the product key of the server to the 2008r2 KMS key as well as entering the same key when setting up the KMS? Thanks
