Hi Im just about to give this a go but when i change the redirect to C:, wont windows automatically put in the Programs folder in the Menu folder as all the shorcuts have to be in the Programs folder? Thanks

Hi Does or has anyone run exchange in a clustered environment? if so is it easy to change so that it isn't and use just the one server? We currently do and i am looking at changing this so we just have the one server as im going to be virtualising it in the near future. Thanks

Hi Im setting up defrag to run on all servers as a sheduled task and would like to know how often would anyone recomend running this? Also what other daily/weekly or monthly tasks do other people run to save any manual labour and make my life as easy as possible!! Thanks

Hi Is anyone using final cut pro in thier school? we have it installed on our mac pro but it will only work when using a local logon account and not an Active Directory login. The software will load eventually but takes ages to do anything and often crashes. Im not sure if there are any directories i should put in open manger for the program to work properly as a domain user as i only allow applications to run according to what is in the list. Thanks

We've just had the Extricom Wireless solution fitted here and to be honest i can fault it. I had 30 laptops loged in one room and 24 streaming video from BBC iplayer. Soon as it was more than 24 it just started to get slightly intermittant. We've also gone for the 'N' standard because all our staff laptops have wireless N Cards and its been great. I like the fact it acts just like a wired network and manageablity is easy!

Whats everyones view on student laptops in school? Our Head of ICT wants 5 trolleys containing 30 laptops that can be bookable for use around the school. My honest opinion is that they would take a massive amount of my technicians time managing all these laptops because they would be more prone to damage and also problems with battery life if the charging of the laptops were not managed. I would much rather have more dedicated ICT Suites! Does any agree with this? it would be nice to know other peoples point of view with the pros and cons. We have an excellent wireless system in place so 30 laptops in a room is not an issue. Thanks

So the UPS wouldn't do a gracefull shutdown unless we had the powerchute software on the servers? despite the IP addresses being in the list on the UPS management interface?

Appoligies if im sounding really thick here but we have an APC RT8000 UPS system with network card and 3 battery packs and i was wondering if i still need the APC Powerchute software on the servers despite the servers IP Address in the Powerchute Configured Client IP Addresses List. Secondly, because the UPS is connected to the network via HP Procurve switch, am i right in saying that this switch should also be connected to the UPS power supply? because if the power went down then the UPS couldn't communicate with the servers to shut them down? Hope This makes sense!

You login using your normal AD Username and password and you pickup your My Documents folder for the Home folder.

I always use some software called ADMitMac to bind the macs in AD and have no problems with it.

Does anyone know of a way to automatically move or add a new computer to a specific OU during sysprep once a computer has been sysprep'd? Instead of doing it manually ising AD Users and Computers. At the moment all i have to when sysprep runs is type a computer name. The rest automatically joins it to a domain and sets the settings etc. It would be nice so that it would move to the correct OU then run gpupdate so it picks up the correct GPOs on boot up. Thanks

Does anyone have or know how to create an Office 2004 package for the mac? Ive tried using packagemaker and dragging and droping the whole Office 2004 folder to PackageMaker but the application just quits unexpectedly with an error. Am am new to packagemaker so i dont know if i am doing something wrong. Thanks

The thing is its does. When you click on the ? relating to the program it runs, and then the icon will change to the correct icon. I dont know if im doing something wrong when i add the application in workgroup manager. All i am doing is sharing the applications folder on an imac then on the server i go into workgroup manager,find the group where i have the macs, choose the dock preferences then find the mac where i just shared the applications folder and choose the application i want to appear in the dock. Hope this makes sense and i am really new to macs.

Does anyone know why some applications show up on the dock as a ? Ive gone into workgroup manager on the Xserve to select the applications to be allowed for the group which has imacs in it, some of which i had so share the C: drive of another mac to see the apps that wont appear on the Xserve ie: Final Cut Express and select that app to appear in the list. The same process was done to set the app to appear on the dock. When i now logon to the an imac, the icons that i had to add that reside only on macs and not the server appear as a ?. The app runs ok and then the icon will change to what it should look like. But when the imac is logged out and back in again the same thing happens. Thanks
