Hi Everyone Im currently testing Windows 7 in our domain and ive noticed that when i open my computer, a student user can see the entire network by typing in Network at the top. Is there anyway i can stop this from happening? It also brings up a tab called Active Directory but i set a GPO to stop it returning any results when a search is done. Thanks

Outsourcing printer management
techie08 replied to Roberto's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Im also looking into the possibility of Manage Print Solutions. Currently we have 45 HP printers (mono and colour) and i only buy remanufactured tones which are unreliable. So far to date ive spent £6050 on toners since april 2010. Half of our printers are out of warranty and slowing but surely going wrong. Not sure though if the figure we spent so far is about the norm? -
Ive actually now found something that might do the job: taskkill /f /fi "status eq not responding" Create a shortcut from this and put it in the students startmenu and ill see if this does what they need to do
-
I see your points and to be honest i just wanted to see if it could be done. Im going to see if there any other task killing utilities out there that can do what Task manager can do. At least then the powers at be will be happy!

Does anyone know if the tabs in task manager can be hidden? The Head of ICT has requested access to task manager so the students can shutdown non responsive apps so all i want the students to be able to access is the Applications Tab. Thanks

I have applied the GPOs for load a specific background and theme which applies correctly. I think it may of been a group policy problem some where. Thanks
-
I tell a lie, its not.
-
Ive hidden the C: drive but that would still allow access in the background shouldn't it?

Im not specifying a particular desktop and i get the icons that i should, its as if it applies a different theme with a black background and the grey start menu. like the 2008 one. Thanks
-
Managed to get it working. I edited the script to copy the shortcuts from the file server.

Appolgies for resurecting this tread again, but i have now tried to implement the same script for a windows 7 test computer but it fails to copy the icons across. It creates the startmenu folder in the root of the C: but doens't copy any of the icon over. XP seems to be fine. The script is used in the machine startup not user log on. Would it point to a permissions problem on the c drive of the windows 7 machine? Thanks

Hi Does anyone else use Outlook 2003 to download emails from easymail? I have a weird issue where most emails from our LEA are downloaded from Easymail in to outlook 2003 with the Header and footer as part of the main email. All emails from everyone else is fine. The emails that have the issue, i have noticed that they are in plain text and all the others are HTML. I have check the settings in outlook but everything is as it should be. Many Thanks

Full control everyone
-
Its weird because staff (home directories on another server) are fine. Ive checked all the permissions and are practically the same. It also works if the student user is moved to the staff server!
-
I Have full control for student, and system. Creator Owner is special but has every permission assiged. I just cant work out why im geting the error!

Hi Guys Can anyone tell me what security permissions they have set on the home directories for students? The Reason i ask is that we seem to have issues when creating a live instrument in garage band an error pops up says "Drive/Partition username is full. We have no issues on the PC side of things and it appears just to be garageband on the Macs. Many Thanks

Data Protection Manager 2010 - Incremental Backups
techie08 replied to LinkZ's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Whats the total amout of data that you guys are backing up on this? Ive just installed the trial of DPM and looking protecting just servers which total 400gb and not staff or student data which totals 2tb. Currently im doing this all to using Backup Exec 12.5 to a LTO3 auto loader Has anyone got fault tollerance raid on the storage groups? i Have 4 x 1tb drives in my server for storage and im not sure whether to use all the space or have them as a RAID config. Also will the data going onto tape be compressed? how long would it take to archive to a single LTO3 Drive?
