Firstly, 1.5gb and 2,500 emails are nothing! Going through a 22gb SAR and a 10GB SAR at the moment so count your blessings! Seems the Dedupe function is a Premium version these days from what I can see. (I haven't looked at pricing/Licensing to become a Premium member though) I usually sort the emails into Sender/From and then block delete there. Painful and hoping someone here has a solution to make my life easier in some degree.

Wonde, now charging £360 per year but you don't need it.

I found the paid for version really useful, but depends on your GDPR process and how slick yours is. Ours isn't a slick as we'd like yet, so the DPIA etc are useful as well as the permissions stuff. Possibly can be done without, but for us, it's useful.- 54 replies

We are looking at this too, from being on-premise to going to their hosted solution Did you get anywhere with this bearing in mind it was 2 months ago now. Hopefully you have 🤞

I use cloud filter HornetSecurity and then Office 365 rules and quarantine. Staff get quarantined email alerts every couple of hours, students don't as their playstation promo emails aren't important. Any email domains they should receive mail from are added to 'allow' lists.

Cheers. Do your Teams assignments show up in MCAS app for students and parents?
-
Well after a loonng wait after raising the ticket - support says we need to provision users and Classrooms within Bromcom to enable them to show in MCAS app. Now just trying to find out how to do this as our new Year 7 user accounts have been created in AD and 365. Based on supports quick fire answer, not sure where to go but keep using Salamander for everything and not show Teams stuff in MCAS. Looking at Arbor now 😁
-
Thanks for the reply. It doesn't really say anything regarding any linking or importing of existing teams for homework use. I have raised a ticket with Bromcom support.
-
Morning all, Anyone managed to import or link existing Teams info into Bromcom so that assignments can be viewed in MCAS app? I can only see the 365 integration settings, and when seelected, nothing appears which seems to offer any import or provide any info on it. An article on imports is available but from 2021 (might be current still) but I don't see those menu items as a full admin. Just asking before I contact their support. Appreciate any help

Morning, I've searched a fair bit and can't really find any recommendations so posting for some help. I have just setup ASM and Mosyle for 15 x iPads which took a long time and a big learning, but a joy to support now with updates etc I have been asked to look at 15 more, but they don't want to buy iPads and are tempted by the cheaper Android tablets available. (we have no budget for this, so trying to achieve it on as little as possible). They also like the look of free apps in Play Store rather than Apple store where similar apps are subscription based. Does anyone setup/support/update Android tablets for shared (in a dept) staff purposes? Everyone I know who has bought relatively cheap tablets bin them after a year or so, but that often suits a purpose and it's not imperative to their working life. I've looked at refurbs ipads and cheaper ones than new, but they're still twice the price of some of these tablets. Any recommendations for reliable tablets that aren't iPads. A bit miffed at having to setup an MDM for Android after setting up Mosyle etc. Then there are the apps which sounds like they want a free reign to download what they like. I do have Intune but it isn't setup for anything yet. Any helpers? Thanks in advance.

Well the support is rubbish now, granted, but the product is actually amazing! Shifting to Bromcom bookings is like going back 15 years for us. Not looking forward to this in the slightest as to run it properly needs intervention and someone's time
-
So what do people use for bookings if they aren't using Bromcom room bookings? Keen to help the OP (and me )
-
Not sure they support Bromcom. In fact they don't, but there is a manual import option, but what you have to do to populate that might be arduous. Hopefully this is just isolated to your site, for whatever reason, as it seems a huge issue if the same for everyone?
-
Our 3rd parties ,12 of them, are doing the change for no extra cost except Cunninghams and Inventry.
-
oh no... this has sent a shudder down my spine pre-migration to Bromcom! Have you contacted Bromcom support?

Broadband provider recommendations

We use BT 1gbit leased line. Not been down for 10 years now (touches everything wooden nearby) and the best thing I ever did in terms of connectivity/reliability. Run own Smoothwall UTM and managed in-house. -
Whoooaaa.... Looks like I'll need to do this under the radar! Thanks for all the comments. Useful exercise!

A late call, but looking to bring it home! It will possibly help the schools' stress, if not mine. We have been hosted for years and I never looked after SIMS then, so I have no idea where to start other than spin up a VM for it. Does anyone have any documents for installing SIMS on a new server, installing some version of SQL, then restoring via a backup.bak file? Anything would help in this darkest hour.... Many thanks in anticipation.

I'm after some advise please regarding deploying iPads for some staff. We have had 20 iPads and haven't bought any for years, and ditched the Apple device management software used years ago. I think it was the Apple configurator which just managed apps and restrictions etc, but was still quite a manual setup. The MAc mini which was used has gone a long time ago too. We have just purchased 16 more ipads which are for Staff only and not for shared use. Really restricting these aren't really an issue, so looking at ways to deploy this in as little time possible. They will need: -to be setup for basic use, language etc (this takes ages manually per iPad) -Same appleID on each ipad -Wireless access set up for school (and use at home option) - can use a common wifi key -smoothwall mitm certificate installed Then: -Need some free apps and possibly some paid for one's (so a VPP is required?) -Email set up for each user (they can do that under instructions if necessary) -Then Find my Phone or something similar For these few, I'm looking at whatever can be done using free software. I've had a read of the different possibilities, but it all seems to end up with paying something along the line Can I do what I want with Apple Configurator for Mac and Apple School Manager? or is there something worth paying for for such a small requirement? (No budget!) Appreciate any advice from the experienced folk here! Many thanks in advance.

Don't forget their private accounts are not beyond SAR requests and will be searched. I love that one! I pushed so hard on this and we now have them using cCollege accounts. Using Governor hub has been a blessing lately too. Have these Governors had any GDPR training by a DPO? They are meant to be aware of our practises and why we do things, and agree to us doing them! DPO training can be quite hard hitting in terms on private email accounts and lack of GDPR standards where their mail is potentially stored. Also Governors using work accounts etc, our data is being monitored by their IT depts etc etc etc.

I'm not that impressed at the moment either if I'm honest. -

I think the paid for features are really good. Whether we need them or not is another thing, but looking at the basics, the info is really restricted. I fear us paying for the GDPR side of it.- 54 replies

Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated. I have a meeting on Friday so will see how that goes. Often we just guess what teachers want or don't want so the input has been useful- 13 replies

Absurd??? 😁 My issue is TCO when budgets are so stretched is also quite hard to justify, morelike make it happen actually. I'm buying refurbed PCs to last 3 years instead of 6 years which I've never done in my life until now, but there's a need to get stuff replaced quicker than we have money for. I will look at the better quality items as we've invested well in infrastructure and got the rewards to date, but it's challenging right now. Cheers for info- 13 replies

Who does what in the SAR process?
leegcvcc replied to leegcvcc's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
OMG I would jump off a cliff if I had a few a month. A few a year would be bad. Must have good staff and good processes for that to work well! It took me hours to sift through emails. I had 17k from first sift and so many replies to emails regarding other people than the name mentioned initially. I probably need to now find out how to export PST files to PDF! -

Many thanks. Our staff are having to use the extend function with anything using HDMi, so most will be versed in doing it. I'll look at the promethean stuff, but it was crazy pricing for single purchases last time I looked. Much appreciated response 👍- 13 replies
