  1. Will that give me an extended wifi range or just an ethernet port to plug into?
  2. Can anyone recommend me a Wireless extender/booster for my house?
  3. Currently we have got roughly 20 macs set up using the golden triangle method. In the summer we have got 5 more MACS for the room to replace the older machines. Myself and the Network Manager are going to set the Golden Triangle up from scratch again and update the old machines to mavericks. Just wondering if there was an alternative way of setting them up as currently the older machines binding is causing problems and pupils work is not saving properly or corrupting especially in iMovie. Thanks
  4. No the other day we drilled into the audio port of the machine and as long as you get the centre of the broken piece it should slide out. May need some tweezers to finish the job off though. We use Dell over here and it and they are a pain.
  5. We use a small drill to remove them over here, in and out no fuss.
  6. If you are looking at 1 to 1 solution then i would speak with Glyn at KRCS https://www.krcs.co.uk/ed-contact as he was really helpful when we got our iPads as he goes through everything for you.
  7. We went with about 35 iPads but made similar lists to what you have come up with. Breaking your points down these are your options. If you are app purchasing you might want to look at VPP so you can retain ownership of apps but this will require a different apple ID on each iPad. You will need to have a mac with apple configurator installed on it to supervise the iPads. Then personal preference would be to use an MDM like Lightspeed, meraki mdm or use apples profile manager. All of them have pros and cons but are all limited by apple. For charging and security you have a range of choices from fixed units to moveable trolleys. The one we had was pretty secure as it had a lock and key method and as long as you keep hold of the keys then you should be fine. It also had a charging unit where you could program it to charge at specific times and when to turn off. We used to be with smoothwall but moved over to lightspeed when we got the iPads as there mobile filtering was a lot better and fitted our needs. Viruses you should not be concerned about very rare never had one on my personal iPad and never had any on the schools either. This is the hard bit. If you are happy to use solutions like dropbox and onedrive then these will work fine for the kids. The best solution i have come across so far is something called FOLDR Foldr - Free Your Files | Remote File Access From Any Device & Workflow Solution For iOS from Minnow IT. It uses active directory to store the pupils work back to there my documents so it works well. Another solution which worked well when we trialled it was something called air catch AirCatch. This uses email to redirect the kids work back to the my documents folder but takes some setting up. Hope this helps, ask away if you want to know anything else.
  8. WOW did you have to make 1500 apple ID's for each one?
  9. Thanks for that
  10. I have just moved from aol (yes laugh) to plusnet unlimited. Pay around £22 a month for unlimited broadband and in the first month used around 350Gb, which i thought was a lot until you told us about your usage. Have to say Plusnet are brilliant and if you ever have a problem the english call centre is an added bonus when asking for help.
  11. I have just finished my QA apprenticeship. I would recommend calling their team on 0845 074 7825 as they were really helpful signing me upand offer you a great amount of support throughout your apprenticeship.
  12. All sorted now guys thanks for the help
  13. Tried using that yesterday to reset her password but its just stuck on the kernal and won't budge
  14. Having real trouble with the family pc. On my mums account is says user profile service failed the logon. User profile could not be loaded. Problem with this is that my mum is the only administrator account on the computer. I used one of the other accounts on there to make sure that could log in. After it logged in i did a quick virus check and everything came back clean. I booted up in safe mode and was able to log in fine to my mums account but any changes which required administrator privileges wouldn't open just froze so restarted the computer but when i tried to log in i still got the same error message. I then tried altering the profile list in the registry which was causing the problem but when i tried to rename the .dat it came up with an error message saying it could not rename it (possibly as i was not the administrator) I then tried to activate the local administrator account through command prompt but didn't have sufficient privileges to activate. I tried right clicking and running as administrator but after entering my mums password it said cmd.exe is unavailable file path could not be found. Any ideas
  15. Yes but is it usable now? For me to many problems and to much time setting up chat windows and speaking with support Here is version 2: Solving issues when upgrading your MDM software to Apple's iOS 7 - Innovate My School Can't knock Lightspeed support but when you seem to call them everyday with problems you know something is wrong. With it being web based it does make it easier to manage but with schools and SLT not realising how much time it takes to set them up, you end up managing them instead of delegating it as you don't have the people with technical knowledge to pass the job onto.
  16. Seems like they are going down the lightspeed MDM route charging per device so this is swaying me more towards profile manager now. thanks
  17. How come they asked you for money?
  18. With version 1 of the lsmdm everything was made simple andwas easy but when they released version 3 (They didn’t even release version 2due to overload of problems) our iPad management became 10x harder once we migrated to version 3. First offthere is no search box to search for a group or device so if it syncs your mybig campus groups you have to search through all the groups until you get thegroup that you want. Then if a setting like passcode is turned off at thehighest admin point you can’t turn it on for each individual group it stays onor off and mould your settings around it. Then you have the problem with theinterface where you have to turn a setting on to turn it off which confused meat the start as I couldn’t understand why setting were not pushing. Overall Ilost patience with it after the update as it just became a struggle.
  19. Do you just run it from a mac mini?
  20. As others have said it really depend on the budget. If you do want to keep the interactive side of the boards then have a look at touch TV's.
  21. I am going to be setting up iPads at my new job and was wondering what you guys would recommend me using. At my old place I was using Lightspeed MDM but even though it had its benefits I don’t think I will be using at my new place. I have been looking at meraki mdm from cisco but also had a look at profile manager on os x server. What would you guys recommend going with?
  22. Problem inside the lightspeed rocket filtering can't remember off the top of my head the setting that was changed.
