I guess myself as I have no idea -
Try looking at this forum http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/136741-managed-distribution.html might give you some ideas on the apple ID issue.

Anyone else having problems pushing paid apps?
Shadow_Walker replied to Shadow_Walker's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
sorted now -
Never come across that before, but in my opinion I would stay away from that, especially if you are struggling at the moment just to push an app out as it may get a bit too confusing for you.

No way of creating bulk apple ids, but be careful apple do check how many apple id’s have been made from an IP address and if you get found out you get put on the blacklist and all the id’s you made could be deactivated and also you can’t create anymore. The way round this is to ask apple to put you on the whitelist which if I remember rightly this can take 6 weeks to do and you are not guaranteed to get on. If you do get on it you can make unlimited apple id’s from that certain IP address.

Just a quick question do you use a lightspeed system?
-
Didn't even relise that was possible until you said that. I just tested on the iPad and that has to be another major flaw. If I remember correctly we have a 3 year warranty on all the devices and KRCS just swap the device out no questions asked.

We have just purchased about 30 iPad’s for the school I work at so hopefully I can share some problems we have come across. So you have the initial up front cost of the iPads which is a lot of money. If you are looking to buy iPad's then I would recommend KRCS https://www.krcs.co.uk/ and try to speak to Glyn as he was very helpful. You will need to also look at investing in an iPad trolley to keep them charged and locked away safely. However after you have bought everything you start to run into problems, you need to buy apps from the Apple education store but these apps are not cheap even when you start buying in bulk. The school will also need a credit card to purchase apps from the app store which can cause more problems. To get the ilife and iwork apps you will need to fill in this form Volume Purchase Program: Requesting free iLife and iWork apps and send it off to get these apps for free as they don’t come preinstalled on the iPad. You need to supervise the iPad’s which we do using apple configurator and using lightspeed mdm to manage them wirelessly however you can use Maraki which is an alternative https://meraki.cisco.com/products/systems-manager. Then you have the problem of the pupils saving work, if a pupil does work on iPad 1 it means that the work is saved onto that iPad alone and any other pupil could delete that work or modify it. You have ways round this e.g. dropbox and onedrive but at the place I work at we didn’t want to go down these paths mainly as we didn’t want pupils work saved away from our internal server. There are two alternatives which I know of which save work back to the server but it adds more money onto the already high bill. The two options are foldr Foldr | Remote File Access From Any Device & Workflow Solution For iOS from Minnow IT and aircatch AirCatch, both work very well in my opinion but foldr works slightly better as it uses the pupils usernames and password to log them into the software to save work. I don’t know if this will help but these are the problems we have come across over the last month.

Problem sorted now had to change some settings in the rocket but just to clarify when a student or a teacher goes to use the internet on an iPad they must sign in to start using it as it authenticates them and allows us to know what they are doing on the device. So the problem was it kept asking me on each iPad to connect to the internet.
-
When you open safari on the iPad it asks you for your school username and password. If you dont enter your details it dosent allow you onto the internet.

I am currently using the lightspeed mdm to manage the iPad's in our school. However I am running into a problem with the fact i need to enter my login details everytime to get onto the internet through the lightspeed proxy. This means that instead of just pushing all the apps out i want i have to enter my credentials then let the apps download. This is causing the process to be painfully slow at times so is there anyway round this issue. thanks

All the USB ports are connected to the motherboard first thing that we checked.
-
At one of the schools we have just took over to offer support too the IT suite has a policy where USB sticks cannot be plugged in. We tried going in as a local admin but we still can't get any USB sticks to work in any of the machines. Does anyone know a way of getting round this as we are a bit stumped until we can get this to work.

Does anyone use AirCatch for iPads
Shadow_Walker replied to Shadow_Walker's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thanks for the reply, think we are going to trial it to see what it is like. -
You could use an app like FileBrowser to get the work back onto the server and then once you are on a computer you have much more options on sharing the work. The file format that garageband uses is m4a but if you need to convert it to mp3 there are plenty of free conversion tools out there.

Just wondering if anyone has ever used AirCatch as a solution for getting work on an iPad back onto your server at school. I just want to know in terms of how easy it is to setup and how easy is it for the kids to use to see if it is a solution for our school. thanks

I have tried the filebrowser app however i found that due to restrictions on our server it couldn't get to the student profiles and only allowed us to view the shared drive -
Getting work back onto server from iPad
Shadow_Walker replied to Shadow_Walker's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We dont want any options like dropbox and skydrive as we want it all runing internally. Also WebDav was also mentioned but we decided we did not want to go down that route. -
Basically the school want the children to be able to work on the iPads and then save the work that they do on the iPad back to our server. Does anyone know any way this can be achieved? The only option that we can come up with so far is a piece of software called foldr but the starting price for that is £3000 a year which is a bit much at the moment.
