My friend has a Mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro (5,5) and it comes built in with 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB). I just updated it to Yosemite as it was still on Snow Leopard and now I have lost 1 slot of RAM. It seems this is a common issue as there seems to be a lot of threads about it on Apple's Communities and other forums via a Google Search. The problem is that I have tried all those temporary "fixes" and tried resetting the PRAM / NVRAM and SMC and not had any luck with either. Reseated the RAM, tried different sticks, freezing everything and nothing works. The MacBook just won't see Bank 1 of RAM. It's well out of warranty, is there anything I can do to resolve the issue? It's highly unlikely to be worth replacing the logic board due to the age of the device.

@Arthur, any chance of getting those instruction?

Yeah, I couldn't do Weetabix, Oatabix or porridge before without sugar. Now I can do the whole lot and not think twice about sugar. Tea without sugar is still unthinkable though, but luckily I'm not a serial tea drinker! Dates really do help with the sugar cravings though.

Too right... I did a long post on Facebook after my first "cheat weekend"...

Well, I guess I'll post my story... I've been struggling with my weight for over 18 years, started piling it on pretty quickly when I was 16 years old working in my dad's newsagents. The boredom led to trying out each and every snack, chocolate bar, crisp and drink several times, over the course of 10 years before my dad sold up and retired. I obviously was stuck in the unhealthy lifestyle and despite desperately wanting to shift the weight, I could never budge it off. I'd try diet after diet, some things would work, but then I'd just get bored and annoyed and I'd just pile it all back on again. This summer, I had yet another very "unhealthy" holiday. Loads of junk, loads of eating out with mates. I took a look at myself in the mirror and as usual hated what I saw. I dunno what hit me, but I finally sat down and decided that enough was enough and THIS time I was gonna be serious and proper about losing weight. So, it started on September 1st, I stood on the scales and weighed in at 111kg. (17st 6.7lbs). From that day onwards, I decided, no more "dieting". It's time for a complete lifestyle change. Cold turkey completely. Out went my previous diet which looked similar to this: Breakfast: Crunchy Nut Cornflakes with Semi Skimmed Milk Break: Crisp, chocolate bar, can of Boost (Energy Drink) Lunch: Sandwich of some sort, with crisp, chocolate bar, dilute drink or water Early Evening Dinner/Tea: Homemade Indian Curry of some sort with maybe 4-5 chapattis or rice. Late evening snack: Crisp and chocolate bar or dessert (if any available - ice cream, cheesecake, ice lolly) Every Friday/Saturday evening: Go out with the lads to a restaurant or take away. Food would consist of either 16oz T-Bone Steak with chips, mixed sides, starters, lots of soft drink and then dessert, or a chicken burger or donner kebab both with chips. On some days, we'd do the whole lot! Sometimes even mid week with a different group of mates. And don't forget the family. Saturday/Sunday afternoons we'd have a take away burger and if the wife was feeling tired mid week, we'd order in a pizza. Yes, I know... It was bad! But anyway, that all went completely out of the window come September 1st. Now my daily diet looks something like this: Breakfast: Porridge or Oatabix with Skimmed Milk Break: Fruit Lunch: Left overs from yesterday's dinner (See below) Dinner: Usually a dish based around grilled chicken and spinach. We'll mix things up for variety, but it's usually consisting heavily of those 2 items. We design the dishes ourselves. 10 years worth of watching the cookery channel and sampling food from everywhere and anywhere gives us most of the ideas. Dessert: Dates and Fruit Water: I drink about 3-5 litres a day. Every Friday/Saturday evening: I still go out with my mates - But I sit there and talk and won't eat a morsel. If I'm thirsty, I'll have a glass of water. First weekend of the month: Cheat day. I can have whatever I want on this day. For the first month, I completely cut out carbs, now I'm starting to eat a few carbs here and there in the form of brown pitta and the occasional bread or similar, but everything is still very controlled. My main problem over all these years was lack of willpower. I just couldn't resist the temptation. I also had the floodgate problem. If someone gave me a crisp, I'd need to go and get myself a packet. If someone gave me a chunk of chocolate, I'd need to go out and get a bar of my own. If I had a chip, I'd need to get my own portion. I just couldn't do moderation. Now though, I have learnt to deal with all of that and so, 75 days in, I stood on the scales this morning weighing in at 98kg (15st 6lbs). So I've lost just over 2 stones. People have asked how long I will keep on "dieting". My answer to them is that my target is 75kg, but that doesn't mean I will stop after that. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. Once I reach 75kg, I might relax a bit more and start going out with my mates more than just once a month, but I won't let myself fall back in to the trap of letting go again. I won't deny, it's not easy. It's not easy at all. You never get used to the food and you always crave the bad stuff. It's expensive being healthy and it's hard work as you have to cook fresh everyday, but in the end I guess it's all worth it. It's just about staying strong and having the willpower.

Office 365 ProPlus free for staff from 1st dec 2014
Zoom7000 replied to Marshall_IT's topic in Cloud Services
@jamesbmarshall - Will this be available for users on LGfL London Mail? My staff use LGfL Staff Mail which isn't Office 365 based, so, in theory, could I just sign my school up for free Office 365 A2? -
I'm still getting grey ticks on some of my chats even though the person has obviously read my messages because they have replied!

Don't you mean the 4S? Apple hasn't released iOS 8 for the iPhone 4. The last version for the iPhone 4 was iOS 7.1.2

I just don't get why they almost downgraded the Mac Mini. There is no longer a dual HDD option. The RAM is soldered and you only get a Dual Core option. My Sandy Bridge Quad Core i7 Mac Mini "Server" with dual HDD and upgradable RAM doesn't look too bad all of a sudden! It seems Apple really want customers to go down the route of a MacBook or iMac and targetting the Mac Mini as an entry-level device as opposed to a fully fledged Mac without the display. It also looks like they want to push those who need a true server down the route of the Mac Pro. At the end of the day, it all seems to boil down to cash

I'll wait for the top Apple sites to report successful installs before updating my iPhone 6 Plus.

Does that include Adobe Air @Arthur?

Can't wait! It's gonna be a busy one for me this year!

Well, it was definitely the GPU that died. My friend kindly donated a 9800GTX which has at least got me back up running, however, I was just about to buy Final Fantasy XIII and GTAV (Upon release) So, I'll still need to save up for a 750Ti which appears to be the cost and performance equivalent to my 560Ti as I very much doubt the 9800GTX will fair well with those 2 graphical beasts! It's just too bad that EVGA don't do 10 year warranties anymore, but I guess they learnt from BFG's failure! Thanks for that. I'll give that a go. Not too sure how comfortable I'd be with trying the re-flow the card, but it is something that most people are suggesting. I guess I don't have much to lose with an already dead card.

Kinda like bendgate and hairgate, the media just want to tear down the big corps like Apple & Microsoft with sensationalist stories. It makes me laugh how many people I've seen complain on forums saying stuff like "I hate Windows 10, all they've done is take Windows 8 and throw in a Start Menu!", "Microsoft are thieving buggers! This should be a service pack!" Etc Etc. If you don't know what a Technical Preview is, you really shouldn't be installing it on any PC, let alone user PCs in production environments!

My warranty ran out in Jan 2014 An equivalent card will cost me around £100. Not an expenditure I can afford at the moment

So, my daughter was just watching YouTube when this happened: So, do you reckon my GPU has just died on me? It displays that during the POST and at all times now. I've opened the case and tried reseating it to no avail. Unplugged and recabled everything and still the same. Anyone know what kinda warranty comes with a Gigabyte 560Ti?

3 Home Signal Box - Destination IP?
Zoom7000 replied to Zoom7000's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I've not had a chance to test with Cain & Abel, but from the other forum, I got told that the ranges I need to unblock are: Unblock Ports: TCP - 80, 443 UDP - 53 NTP - 123 ISAKMP - 500 ESP - 4500 IP Ranges: 92.40.0.0/16 188.28.0.0/15 I got the 92.40.0.0/16 range from my IP address on my iPhone, but I think the 188.28.0.0/15 range is from internal information from 3 -
3 Home Signal Box - Destination IP?
Zoom7000 replied to Zoom7000's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
The trouble with this is that the device does not have a user or web interface and I don't know where it is going to. I would need to do a scan from the devices IP to be able to find out where it is going. tracert would only look at the local NIC on the PC. If I am thinking correctly! -
3 Home Signal Box - Destination IP?
Zoom7000 replied to Zoom7000's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
lol! I thought it'd be a given that I'm posting asking for help on a technical forum, I must be the IT guy! They're also rather baffled that I can't check the firewall logs! -
I have very poor signal with the 3 network at work. They offer a device called the 3 signal box which they sent out to me and it works flawlessly at home. However, at work, it seems to be blocked by the LGFL firewall. I've asked Atomwide and they are happy to open the required ports but they need a destination address. I called 3 but they won't give me the destination address, instead telling me to open my firewall (Something I can't do anyway!) All they gave me was the ports I needed to open: TCP - 80, 443 UDP - 53 NTP - 123 ISAKMP - 500 ESP - 4500 My question is, is it possible to find out where the box is trying to get to? I tried installing Wireshark at home and at work and isolating the IP address of the box, but I just got lost in the results it spewed out!

Yeah, I've come across this before in my previous role, but unfortunately these iPads were set up by my predecessors who didn't choose to allow this.

Our school had a MacBook stolen sometime last year. This MacBook was used to configure all the iPads using Apple Configurator. I've since bought a new MacBook Pro, but every time I try to connect it to iTunes I get the message, This iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used with this computer. The profiles on the iPad are locked and cannot be removed. Is there anyway to reconfigure the iPad for the new MacBook or will I have wipe all of the iPads clean and start again?
