Any potential price increase for OVS-ES licensing will hurt my charity funded school pretty hard

There are many modules in the primary computing curriculum that require the kids to take photos and videos on the iPads. We have a trolley of 30 iPads, is there an easy method for the teachers to transfer photos and videos from the iPad without the need for lightning cables?

Nothing astonishes me about RM CC4 anymore! I'm just a bit nervous about tinkering with AD and GPO as you can do some serious damage to CC4 should anything go wrong!

Did anyone manage to find a registry setting for this? I too have acquired a whole load of keyboards with sleep buttons and would like a quick way of disabling them, but can't use GPO due to CC4.

Isn't that the deal breaker here. Those apps require additional expenses, whereas with iOS 9.3 it'll probably be bundled in for free.

I got upgraded to 200Mbps in October 2015, however, seeing as my area has high utilisation of over 90%, it's pretty pointless to me at the moment!

lol, thanks @Arthur, always good to get a different view take on things! I'm glad I won't need another PSU, the TV and GPU (still to buy!) have already broken the bank balance!

I'm currently using a Corsair TX 620W modular PSU. I've just bought myself a 40" 4K TV (Samsung UE40JU6400) and I'm planning on buying a GeForce 970 GPU to drive the newly required resolution. Based on my PC specs (in signature), will I be needing a new PSU, or will the current 620W suffice?

Problems affecting several schools in the LGfL too. Most websites are working, but some are on/off intermittently.

The 2012 model will be pretty expensive on Ebay. It's the last model that Apple released with a Quad Core CPU and user changeable RAM, so it's price has shot up ever since the new one was announced. I wish I had picked one up, instead waiting for the new one, only to get shafted! Sincerely hope they replace it with a MUCH better model soon, but I seriously doubt that user changeable RAM will ever return to a device where they have already gone to soldered RAM

I have the same problem, living a distance from the exchange, I would only be getting ~40Mbps with BT/Sky/etc for the same price as 200Mbps from Virgin. However, I'm not getting anywhere near 200Mbps at the moment in the evenings due to high utilisation issues that have been going on for over a year and the ETA has been moved back and back and back! A few months back I did a speed test at 0.91Mbps!

Dedicated hardware from the supplier will always win out as the vast majority of users are not technical at all. For those of us more technically inclined, that's where the consumer hardware falls in to place, but despite how slow and clunky it is using Netflix on a TiVo box, the vast majority of subscribers are probably using it as it's an all in one (1 remote!) system. I don't think Virgin have any plans for 4K content at all, most of their content is delivered by Sky anyway, so it'll be a while before it's even offered to VM subscribers and then it'll be even pricier! I'm only just looking to buy myself a Freeview HD TV next week and happy to go from HD to 720p/1080i! (Hopefully Freeview will be updating to 1080p sometime in the near future!)

I highly doubt iOS 9 is what has caused it to stop working. I updated my whole trolley of iPads to iOS 9 on release date and it went seamlessly. Have you tried checking in the iPads both through Meraki and through the app? Sync Apps? Sync Profile?

The only real reason I am considering the 4K model is for "future proofing". I have had my current 23" TV/Monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD) for about 6 years and I'll be keeping the new one for about the same time too, seeing as I'm probably gonna purchase it from John Lewis/Richer Sounds. I also like the sound of 4K desktop space on my PC, but I'm tentative as I've never actually seen what a Windows desktop looks like running at 4K on a 40" TV.

I'll also be buying a GTX 970, currently my PC cannot handle 4K, but I'm pretty sure a 970 will handle it just fine. I've been happy with the specs of the Samsung for quite some time now, but was just wondering whether I should future proof myself by going for affordable 4K. If Samsung offered something similar in the price range I would definitely go for it, but most of their 40" inch 4K TV's are over £500

I'm not really too fussed on content at the moment. I only plan to use it primarily for Freeview HD (which I believe is only 720p anyway!) I do have a Netflix subscription so I could use that for the 4K content, but the main usage of 4K will be from the Windows desktop.

With Black Friday fast approaching, I've had my eye on the Samsung UE40H6400 for an awful long time. However, recently I have come across the Philips 40PUT6400. Now, I was pretty settled with the Samsung as I will be using the TV primarily as a computer monitor and also as a television. I'll be mainly using Windows applications, with the odd games here and there. (FIFA, GTA, Need for Speed etc, no first person shooters! lol) I have seen a 40" TV used as a Windows desktop at 1080p and I was quite happy with the result. However, I'm torn as to whether I should consider "future proofing" myself and going with the Philips as it offers 4K. I'm not entirely sure how a 40" 4K TV will look as a Windows desktop, but I've seen a few YouTube videos that say it is a positive experience. The Samsung has rave reviews everywhere I've looked, but I've hardly come across any reviews for the Philips. I do like that it comes with Android TV, which means I can download and install Kodi directly to the TV, although I am not too bothered with any smart features at all as the TV will be permanently connected to my PC. I need at the minimum, Freeview HD, 4 HDMI ports and 3 USB ports which both TVs come with. The Samsung does have 3D, but I can't ever see myself using this and I don't have the content for it anyway. The only area the Samsung wins over the Philips is the CPU. The Samsung has a Quad Core CPU, whereas the Philips only has a Dual Core CPU. Will this make much of a noticeable difference? So, the question is, which TV should I go with? I've been set on the Samsung all year, but I'm now quite inclined towards the Philips. I won't be buying another TV for a long time, so it is a bit of an investment and the 6 year warranty from Richer Sounds has me covered on that front.

I would also like to know what these competitors do to help ensure safeguarding support. Something that LGfL and Atomwide take extremely seriously and the support they provide to schools on this is superb. And no, I don't mean simply providing an Internet filter. Safeguarding is a damn lot more complex than that!

By saying you're offering the same via Office 365 and/or Google Apps is not actually offering anything at all. You aren't offering these services, Microsoft and Google are. Advertising it as part of your bundle is just false advertising. One does not need to buy in to your services to be able to get those products, they are free for all. The Internet is the biggest resource in the world? Well, by that chain of thought, why do we bother with anything? You've just trounced on anyone out there trying to sell any type of teaching resource whatsoever! Hell, why do we even bother with schools and learning? You might as well just Google it! Have you tried teaching a subject? You can't just Google lesson plans and resources and hope for the best. The resources LGfL and other content providers put out there are full frameworks to take you from A - Z, incorporating all your needed resources with assessment methods included. Most London LAs work closely with the LGfL and curriculum advisors use their content to help schools to plan. The LGfL also go way deeper beyond just a broadband connection by highlighting key changes in education policies to ensure that schools are adhering to and protecting their pupils and their data. I'm not trying to start a flame war with you or anyone, but there is healthy competition and then there is just plain out trying to crap on your competition with the unprofessional attacks.

@SchoolsBroadband, you seem to be forgetting that for the price that LGfL charge, you aren't just paying for a broadband connection. For the price of the 200Mbps connection itself (Approx: £7k for my primary school) you are getting teaching and learning content worth almost that price alone. In addition to all of this, you get free Sophos Enterprise Anti-Virus for your school and for parents and pupils. You get a free communication app for all parents, secure cloud storage per pupil, AD Synchronised logins with LGfL USOs, LGfL secure hosted Staff Email and Student Email with spam filtering, secure file transfer between LGfL schools, free telephone calls between LGfL schools (if you take up their VoIP service) All of the equipment is supported by Atomwide and in the event of equipment failure, their turn around is usually within a day or less. There are loads of other bits and bobs included in the price which I can't remember off the top of my head nor do I have the time to list. I'd like to see what Anti-Virus, managed email system and curriculum content you offer by comparison. You say that you'd question that the LGfL are a not for profit organisation just because Atomwide made a dividend payment? Atomwide have never claimed to be a not for profit organisation. Just because they do business with them, doesn't mean you can question the not for profit status. They get their broadband from Virgin Media. Are you gonna question their shareholder payouts too?

I've just signed up for the 5 year extension and free upgrade to 200Mbps. In the early days, Atomwide were a bit difficult to deal with, but, I've since made some good relationships at Atomwide in several of the departments and I can safely say they have helped me with any issues I've had in a very prompt manner over the course of the last few years. The only major issue I have had over the last few years was a week's worth of downtime at my last school due to "rodent damage" to the fibre a few miles away from school. This of course wasn't their fault and pretty much kicked out the entire surrounding area, homes and businesses alike! I attended the LGfL Technician's Conference at their Orpington HQ last June and it was very enlightening and was indeed a very good opportunity to share opinions on experiences and give feedback on improvements and ways forward with the service as a whole. I would definitely recommend it for all schools that can afford it. I've also since amalgamated a lot of our internal services to LGfL provisions too. WiFi, VoIP, AutoText and we'll be implementing their CCTV system in the near future too. It helps to have everything under 1 banner and makes support a lot easier.
