  1. I downloaded Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test. Seems to be able to do detailed tests and gives accurate readings.
  2. Hi guys, Having a few problems with One Or Zero. I wanted to change a few setup things so decided to go in and turn the Task Management System off in the control panel. This then locked ME out and I had to open website_settings.php in the configuration folder to manually change it back to on! Why does it do this when I'm the administrator? Any way of stopping it? Thanks.
  3. I've unblocked ads but still get the sad face
  4. You should just be able to delete the printer in Printers and Faxes. I've managed to do that and it's stayed away.
  5. Anyone know what this error is in the event log: Whatever it is, it's happening just before our backups kick in and, therefore, preventing them from completing. Thanks.
  6. About 4 days to go and they'll be back... the teachers, I mean. I think I'm ready for them but no doubt something will happen last minute and it'll all go wrong. Thankfully, not usually needed for anything during the INSET day so it should be quite relaxed and I get a free buffet lunch so it's not all bad. Then, next day, the kids start flooding in. I'm ready... are you???
  7. Happy Birthday, Jack. Have a good one.
  8. Yup. Done the anti-virus scan, etc. All ok. I'll be formatting and re-installing tomorrow. The old laptop could do with a fresh start.
  9. Well, I've managed to get rid of the viruses (touch wood) and, regarding the explorer problem, I renamed explorer.exe and renamed the associated key in the registry. I now have my desktop and taskbar back. It's a workaround so I'm going to format and rebuild when I'm back in work on Tuesday. Thanks for all your suggestions, though.
  10. In Safe Mode, explorer.exe seems to loads perfectly ok. @bizzel I'll have to wait until Tuesday when I'm back in work to run SFC. I don't have an XP disc with me. THanks, anyway.
  11. I have a MAJOR problem at the moment and no idea how to get around it without formatting, etc. This laptop I'm on right now had a weird virus a couple of days ago. Cleaned it. Sorted it. No problem. This morning, it took ages to log on. I saw my desktop wallpaper and that was all. No icons. No taskbar. Nothing. I can run Task Manager and run programs from there but can't open any windows. When I go to the Windows directory and try and run explorer.exe from there I'm told I don't have the right permissions to do so. I've tried replacing explorer.exe and it says the same thing. I've even tried running a copy of explorer.exe from my pen drive and get the same error. It seems like something is stopping me running any file called explorer.exe. I tried to delete explorer.exe from the Windows directory but it appeared again all by itself. I've done virus scans and spyware scans but all turned up with nothing. So, help! Otherwise it's going to be a rebuilding job. Thanks.
  12. All our patches are put through SOLUS via our LA
  13. Just keep a tight hold on it and make sure it doesn't end up like SkyNet, taking over the planet resulting in nuclear destruction. Then, you'll have to send some kid back in time to save a child (who'll end up being your leader in the future) from some crazed Terminator robot thingy... I might be looking too far into this
  14. No, they don't. They have to pay back £19.5m and cancel invoices worth £4.6m. BBC NEWS | Education | Sats marking contract is scrapped
  15. Yeah, the sense of panic rose here when that news was discovered. People were wondering whether we'd EVER get the results. Turns out ETS are going to make sure all the results are out before completely parting company.
  16. Every time I've had a look for an update I've been told we only have 1% of our English results. It's been like that all summer.
  17. It's due to this stupid delay in marking. They're not done in any particular order so a select few schools have some results still to come in. Still, they're expected on Friday so we'll see what happens.
  18. Anyone else been caught up in the delay of the SATS results? We have, unfortunately. We're still missing English but apparently they should be available for us this Friday. I've been checking every other day since the beginning of the holidays. Teachers have been coming in wanted to know where they are and what's going on. It's all been good fun.
  19. Our LEA are holding it back until Results are over and done with. Amusing email came this morning simply saying, "SIMS Support will be available from 8am on Wednesday". I wonder if they're expecting trouble...
  20. My brain has gone completely numb so I wouldn't mind a few pointers. We have 7 digital still cameras and 2 digital video cameras which staff are allowed to use for whatever purpose. I'm trying to devise some sort of booking form for them to sign when they've taken one out or a booking system online they can use but I can't seem to get my brain in gear as to what should be on it. I want some way of keeping track of who has booked what for when and knowing who has what camera out already, etc. I've tried to adapt the Resources tab on the Booking System from Devizes School but it's not really working. Anyone do something similar who could give me a few tips? Thanks.
  21. I'd just turned 10
  22. At 8:08am and 8 seconds today I was just getting on the bus to work
  23. We have a staff meeting every morning and I tend to tell the staff what I intend to do then. Then, I send a "net send" an hour before, 30 minutes before, 15 minutes before and just before telling them to save what they're doing and log off SIMS. If they come complaining that SIMS went off half way through them doing something, they can't say I didn't tell them.
  24. Not entirely sure how you would display this but you could create a report to show the name, reg group and age. When creating the report there's a option to filter by "Days to next birthday" and you can specify the number of days. It's under "Basic Details".
