  1. Hi, The teachers here are in the middle of completing their reports for Year 7 which is due this coming Friday (4th). The languages department, however, is experiencing a problem in that each of their teachers is seeing the wrong class, i.e. not the one they currently teach. The class they teach is correct in Nova-T and this timetabled class is correctly reflected in SIMS .Net, however Profiles and Assessment Manager shows a different class. The only thing that would have had an effect is that Languages changed their classes just after Christmas. Teachers swapped classes. This was changed in the right places and, as specified, this is reflected in the timetable. This change doesn't seem to have happened in Profiles or Assessment Manager, though. Does this have to happen manually or should it be done automatically. So, this is what we have: The timetable shows the correct class that is currently taught. The change was made after Christmas '07. Profiles and Assessment Manager shows the class that was originally taught and does NOT reflect the change made. So how do we give these teachers the classes they currently teach so they can complete their reports? Please help!
  2. Think I'd like one, too. Keep us posted.
  3. What's an ideal memory usage figure for FF3?
  4. TrueCrypt is a very good free encryption program. You create a "volume" of one file or encrypt an entire physical drive such as a USB pen.

  6. I use this and it's very handy. You can set it up to remind you to backup and it will do so on shutdown of Outlook. You can also set it to backup to a particular location such as a pen or network drive. Mine is set to backup every 7 days so about every Friday when I shutdown Outlook, it asks if I want to backup. Simple and effective.
  7. Being stuck slightly in the past because our LA SIMS Support team test every update/upgrade before releasing it, we've only just applied the March update. Now, the release notes for this update stated a 20-50% improvement in SIMS loading speed... how wrong that seems to be. We've found that SIMS runs slower generally and Assessment Manager, in particular, takes ages to load. We meet the recommended specifications for the server and workstations and the whole thing ran faster before the upgrade. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. UPDATE: We've noticed that, since this upgrade, Assessment Manager is really slow to load. Upon further investigation we found that we seem to have doubled the amount of marksheets available. There's thousands - hence the slow loading. Anyone shed any light?
  8. Downloaded the update today and tested. Works brilliantly! Well done for all your hard work.
  9. Obviously nothing to worry about then. Thanks.
  10. Not exactly an urgent one but something I've just noticed. I've just sent an email to someone and the time on my system clock had just clicked over to 15:25. However, I go to my Sent Items and the time stamp is 15:26. It wasn't a massive email and it disappeared from the Outbox while my system clock was still on 15:25. I don't think it will change my life significantly if this carries on but I thought someone might know why and how this happens.
  11. I've started using aTube Catcher. It's really good and can capture YouTube videos as any format include mp3s for just the audio.
  12. It's already on. We had it migrated some time ago.
  13. I'm having lots of trouble setting up LDAP for One Or Zero helpdesk mainly because I'm limited in LDAP knowledge, i.e. attributes, etc. Can anyone who has One Or Zero give me a laymans guide to what I should be putting in the required fields, please? Many thanks.
  14. It's that time of year where Heads Of Department receive their timetables for next year. Is there any module within SIMS that will help allocate classes to teachers fairly and squarely? Or, is there any software around that can do this? I know that Nova-T is used to create the timetable but allocation to teachers is left to the Heads of Department here and those are then entered into SIMS .Net. There are members of staff with huge sheets of paper getting terribly confused. Thanks for any suggestions.
  15. I get the same thing
  16. Right, The drivers are the latest but I replaced them just in case. The Bidirectional Support tick box is greyed out so I'm guessing it's not supported. I can't actually tell if it's made a difference because both printers had started working as normal before I'd done anything. We'll soon see. Thanks for the suggestions, anyway. UPDATE: It seems like it's not just those two printers. Other printers are now doing the same thing. I'm now completely lost.
  17. I'll apologise in advance if this is a bit vague but I can't really say much else about it We have two Konika Minolta bizhub printers in the school and recently the server has had great problems spooling to them. In the print queue for both printers, the first job spools then sits in an error state. If we delete this job the next job does the same. Sometimes, if we restart the job it either errors or it prints with no problem and it can carry on without a care in the world for some time. Otherwise, it'll return an error again. It's only with these two printers. Other printers in the school are fine. We have rebooted the server. We've also rebooted our second server in case it was something to do with replication. Bit lost now, really
  18. http://www.mycafecup.com/eng_index.html As far as I can see, the Cafe Cup Classic is free software that can manage time and pricing. It's client/server software and looks pretty easy to set up.
  19. What I tend to do is make it their ONLY means of doing something. If they want to report a fault, they register the fault on the helpdesk. If they stop you in the corridor or leave you a note, direct them to the helpdesk. It's worked here with things like online room booking systems.
  20. Here's the logfile from HijackThis if anyone wants to take a peek. Thanks. hijackthis.txt
  21. Yup... starting and stopping other services is no problem.
  22. @TechMonkey - we've just tried this and it didn't work, I'm afraid. @Optics - just about to give this a go now. @nickholme - The computer in question is one of several of the same spec and the latency is fine on the rest of them. Just seems to be one or two that has the problem. They're "music-specific" computers and so have decent external soundcards. Thanks for your suggestions, guys. I'll keep you posted.
  23. Hiya, I'm trying to install AVG Free 7.5 on a standalone laptop. It's running Windows XP Home and the user as whom I've logged onto the laptop is a Computer Administrator and so, presumably, has full access rights. However, AVG runs through the installation as normal until the end when it tells me it's failed due to the attached error and then it just rolls back. I don't know what's stopping it being installed. I can start services as normal with no restrictions so why won't this install? Thanks for any help.
  24. Hi guys, I've just been informed of a strange latency problem with Cubase. Seems like when recording MIDI, it's recording it half a beat later than it's played therefore mucking it up when it gets to the end. The person in question has tried looking around on the net but the only answer he's got is, "Try starting the recording before you start playing"! Not sure that's a workaround but it's not solving the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.
