About The_Traveller

  1. I can telnet into the switches, but still looking for the manuals i tried the igmp comand but nothing appears to happen
  2. Unfortunatly with one switch even plugging our ghost machine into it doesnt work. I think broadcasting is enabled, still trying to find manuals online, unfortuntaly im new to switch configuration
  3. One morething, if i cant solve it by half past I need to carry them to another location.
  4. Its a single vlan, and i cant find anything wrong in the switch logs I say i turned off spanning tree protocol, but I have never used it before, I just changed STP enabled to off, I dont know if any other settings need to be changed.
  5. I know someone has posted this before but its an old post and the solution didnt work for me so I thought i'd try again. The problem is that symantec ghost only picks up certain rooms if its plugged into that room/switch and there are a group of rooms, all on the same switch, that cannot connect even if the server is plugged into the switch. I have tried turning spanning tree protocol off on all switches (hp procurve) but still nothing. This all worked fine till last year, but we made no changes to ghost or the network, I'm hoping not to have to cary 70 pc's to the other side of the school.
  6. I know this an old post, but I thought i'd try it before re-posting the same question. We are having the same problem with ghost picking up certain rooms only if its plugged in there, it wont pick one room even when plugged in there. I have tried turning spanning tree protocol off on all switches (hp procurve) but still nothing. I'm hoping not to have to cary 35 pc's to the other side of the school.
  7. Yeah both servers are dns servers. i ran netdiag which returned the error: warning cannot find a primary authoritative dns server for the name admin08.administration etc. [error timeout] what should i look for in the dns records? yesterday i got: The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.
  8. Tried that maniac. still nothing. Its 2003
  9. any advice on dc promotion and replication would help, drawing a blank with how too's and microsoft help and support.
  10. We are in the middle of moving over to a new PDC, but are having some GC issues. I have moved all the roles over, and everything seamed to be replicating fine, all that was left to do was to promote it to a global catalogue. I ticked the check box and left it over the weekend, but it’s still waiting to be promoted. I have checked event viewer and got the following error Promotion of this domain controller to a global catalogue will be delayed for the following interval. 30 mins I have done repadmin /showrepl with the error 1815 kcc could not add this replica link due to error. I have never done this before and am really confused any help would be appreciated
  11. moved this to network. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/networks/22492-global-catalog-promotion-problems.html#post219677
  12. The powers that be decided to do the new timetable the other day, but were worried they might make a mess of it so wanted a backup of the mornings work on the timetable before finishing it off. We usually only stop sims for backup at night, or just after everyone has left.
  13. I need to back up sims in the middle of the day, but we have people logged in. is there a way to either safely log people off, or see who is logged on. i know there is a way to see who is logged on, but i dont know how.
  14. It works, woo!! I installed exchange sp2, which resets things like IIS defaults i think, and now it works. the annoying thing is i will never know what happend, cant see any difference. Big thanks, Glennt, for all the help and sugestions over the last week, they kept me sane. It works!!!!!
