  1. I am in the same boat as you OP. I have tested with Meraki and Lightspeed MDM. My workflow is as follows: Supervise with Apple Configurator(AC). Set a default profile on AC to restrict facetime, imessage, etc as this profile cannot be removed. We use a preconfigured image that has no Apps preinstalled but has icloud and itunes configured using a single Apple ID. Once they are in Supervised mode, I open the iPad and enter the password for icloud when prompted. This registers it with icloud ensuring that find my ipad works properly which is crucial to us. I then add the Lightspeed profile on the supervise tab of AC and refresh the device. The lightspeed profile has even further restrictions to ensure accounts cannot be modified and to force user to enter a password for every app purchase plus many other settings. Where we differ is we have a seperate VPP account. We purchase apps (you still need to purchase free apps for £0.00) and have linked it into our Lightspeed account. It pulls across all the purchased licences which are then pushed out to enrolled devices. It appears to work for free Apps. However I have not had a chance to purchase paid Apps to see if it will work.
  2. Already blocked by lightspeed. Categorised as Adult by lightspeed filter.
  3. Our Schools Broadband Internet is slow today due to a hardware failure of a 3rd party supplier (Entanet). See here for further details. Entanet NOC We are seeing packet loss and extremely slow internet due to the failure although we are not totally cut off.
  4. Hi I want to create a guest network and arent sure which way to go about it. We currently have multiple access points D-Link DWL-8600AP and a D-Link 3024L Controller. The access points are across the network and connected to different switches in different rooms. The controller is in a central cabinet along with the main network core switch. At the moment we have one SSID secured with WPA which is used by internal laptops. My question is how would I go about creating a guest SSID and VLAN it so that the guest traffic is routed to the router remembering that the router is in another cabinet than the core switch and the access points are also connected to multiple switches in different locations. Is that at all possible? Any help appreciated.
  5. Decision on FCS for schools outside BGFL is to be expected before next years subscriptions are out. The subs will be out in December. Lots of stuff about firewall and mcafee producing reports but irrelevant to me as I am no longer on BGFL. Stuff about firewall can recognise applications which they can create rules for from my understanding. They will also be offering FTTC as an option now.
  6. I'm sitting in the middle table. Guy with black leather hoody.
  7. Filtering is actually more restrictive but I can add or remove websites and categories for staff and pupils separately. Image filter is better as it blocks images from the actual results page and just displays a big X on blocked images while still showing results. I have light speed filtering which others have so far said good things about. One thing that is an issue is youtube https which cannot be forced into youtube edu. But every filter software seems to have the same issue.
  8. We have setup our new internet connection using the same scope and subnet settings. Our ADSL is just connected to one machine which we use to get the files from and move it via USB. We cannot use both connections(bridge) which is why we have it like that. It is the only solution I can think of until they provide a better one. It still works out cheaper and faster having two connections than just one 10mb from Link.
  9. Yes I believe we pay the core part. We basically just dropped the Internet part to adsl. We still have mis licence, mis support and service desk with them. Can't understand why we would need service desk when we only call them for mis support which we pay a separate charge for. In an ideal world I would cancel the adsl part, cancel the service desk and just pay for the mis licence and support and anti virus. Policy central also doesn't work so had to sign up for securus. Wouldn't have minded paying them for policy central but they weren't offering any solutions for us as the pce server is internal on bgfl.
  10. I'll be going. We've moved away but had to retain an adsl connection at a cost of £3k just for a bunch of files via fcs. Not at all happy with their service. I will do a write up about our move and the problems encountered and solutions. I'll post it here as soon as I get a chance to write it.
  11. We use lightspeed and have the same problem with https youtube not working at all through chrome. We have youtube for schools enabled too. Havent been able to figure it out.
  12. You're right. Connected on port 8080. The eportal instructions provided by link2ict initially did not include any information about that or any information regarding web services by IIS or tomcat. It was the bare minimum really. Rest of it was me poking around to get it working. If only I had this information from the start. Would've saved me a lot of headache. Also makes me wonder why the hell link2ict didn't just offer this information up to me about me not having to configure IIS at all. Like I said before, they just wanted to get some money out of me before doing anything. That small snippet of information about tomcat would've done the job.
  13. Well if that is the case, it certainly didn't work for me. It only started working when IIS was properly setup. Who knows but atleast its working now....no thanks to link2ict ofcourse.
  14. Check the instructions posted above. They are from advanced learning. IIS works with apache tomcat to serve the pages.
  15. Eportal itself is a webpage which you need IIS to host even if it is only accessed internally. You may not have had to configure it as it may have previously been done but you certainly do need additional configuration if you deployed it on a new server.
  16. You probably got the wrong school mate. All working over here. As it's all internal it doesn't require the ssl certificates although that can be done but we don't use eportal externally anyway and have never done so.
  17. Proprietary notes? You're having a laugh ain't you. All you just do is slap the link2ict logo on the instructions available from advanced learning. Even then, these notes should be available to us as part of the support we pay. You didn't even bother to offer the freely available instructions to me that sonofsanta kindly provided. You just jumped straight to deciding to charge me for it. Wonder how many schools have fallen for this crap of yours. You would have a far better reputation if you actually genuinely helped people rather than resorting to making money at every opportunity you get. I'll be looking at alternative MIS providers since link2ict have proven once again that they are a bunch of money grabbing thieves. And it is actually quicker for me to do it because the service and response time from link2ict is rubbish. Seasons change by the time you get back to someone even when we stress that it is a priority.
  18. You sir deserve a gold medal! Thank you so much. You just saved me £400. I installed a new server and migrated CMIS from 2003 to 2008. All was working fine apart from IIS. I knew I was close as IIS was working but got stuck at the last hurdle. My local authority ICT provider called Link2ICT were being right wankers and refused to help me out unless I gave them £400 as they said they will not touch it since I did the installation and migration. I refused to pay as I knew it was just a few settings that needed to be added to IIS and certainly not worth £400. Your instructions will be what they would've most likely followed anyway and I just needed the last few steps of that anyway. Glad I asked on here for help. I'm just waiting for a call back from them so I can tell them to shove it. And maybe offer to sell them the instructions for £400 since thats what they think its worth.
  19. Hi Does anyone have any instructions on setting up IIS on 2008 for use with eportal? Im stuck at configuring IIS. Any help appreciated.
  20. When I last came across this problem at 4000 activations, I decided to move to a KMS solution. It works perfectly now activating Windows 7, Windows 8 and Office 2010 automatically without me having to enter any serial key or click activate. Its all done in the background.
  21. Our current supplier BT Business are causing issues because or local council is sloooooooooow to pay them. Sometimes it can take months for them to get paid. Are there any suppliers out there who have generous credit terms i.e 3 months etc?
  22. I have a class of machines which all logon a user on extremely slow. After looking at the logs I can see that something called the Desktop Windows Manager is failing. "The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because a composited theme is not in use" followed by "The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0x40010004)" This takes around 2+ minutes and I'm not sure whats going on as Aero does work when eventually logged on. I assume the Desktop Window Manager is for aero, isn't it? I have tried trying to set a theme using gpo and tried it without. Still no difference. Googling has not helped so far. Please can anyone help.
  23. Revealed? Whats there to reveal. According to them they are proposing to use a software called Any Comms plus for secure ftp transfers. If you know of anything else it would be helpful to share it with the rest of us.
  24. Hr portal works outside of bgfl. For the others they say they are working on a solution using any comms plus but who knows how long that will be. In the mean time I am planning to have another adsl line from link and just use it on a standalone machine to get these files etc. well that's the plan.
