    external sub domain? easy as pie go into local DNS and change A record for sub domain, the go into iis and chnage the binding to new sub domain then in external DNS change the A record

    I m with global they re mostly Sonicwall, which I have, sonicwall is great but would slightly give the nod to Smoothwall in a educational enviroment

    Yeah its for a large multiple server environment. If I had single domain I would use windows backup and scripting SQL if you had that or better yet I would VM the server up and backup the VM

    I quack on about it all the time! would never go back to anything else 'Data Protection Manager 2010' Microsoft System Center: Data Protection Manager Its £12 a server so youhave 200 instances of sql, 40 sharepoint on on server and still £12 no random application licences

    have you got rDNS setup for mail.yourschool.com ? also (if you have exchange) is the email policy set to school.local or school.com ?

    Opening yourself up to a can of worms, unders 13s (I think) cant use it (though I know students do), students will have to create FB account if they didnt have one and some parents dont like that, bad comments on profiles etc etc..

    I m disliking this with new teachers, a teacher here acted very childish in front of alot of teachers because they said it was impossible without a laptop at home

    I have my quad core 8GB home PC with two instances of oracle virtual box using 2GB each for test purposes, just do exchange 2010 this weekend on my test rig

    What I do if I find laptops in locked rooms I take it and give it to the head and leave a note on where the laptop is to pick it up from the Head

    Sharepoint is awesome once you get the jist of it but you have to be careful with backups of it. I ve seen the tool on live@edu somewhere, supposedly its quite easy but not tried it myself, if I got rid of my exchange it means I ll have a quite powerful server spare

    Well more that when exchange screws up it can be awful! only one that is worse is fixing sharepoint with every error for sharepoint being 'unknown error' I m really looking at using live@edu to get rid of my exchange

    Yeah, it was to do with both exchange's default antispam and forefront being installed at same time, moral of the story is transport service can be a pain in the backside!
