Sticking to your opinions until counter, is not an opinion, its a fact, for factual statement, you believe that your view is superior than others, that your points clearly thwart us, and that all we have to contribute is nonsense, as you seem to find anything or everything to throw back at it. EDIT: I like dairies, they have their use, and at our school, they will remain. Irregardless of loss, damage, or mistakes written in them, users can take them home at the end of the day, where they may not have access to a school machine, therefore their calendar. We are not IBM, we do not have the resources nor need to make everything electronic, we shant mock others for expressing different opinions, we shall support them in their every effort.

I'm sorry, but your basing your whole argument and clauses to your school, because your Teachers do not have phones. Ours do, they can call from wherever and make a phone call, even if not in classroom all departments have phones, its not like someone's going to call during a lesson is it? During free time, where they have access to their phones. 600 students are irrelevant, that do not operate at the same level, they do not go into meetings, they do not have phones (however they're more than welcome to use any departments phones to call members of staff) As a result, your IBM statement fails YET AGAIN.

You arrange a meeting with a member of the SMT. You call whom? I would call any of the SMT's PA's, I'm not going into the meeting with them, I wont see them there, therefore some social interaction would be nice, and all the PA's are, always got something nice to talk about.

No, that kind of process is for someone thats afraid of using the phone, just call the person, arrange a time out of diaries, commence social interaction, complete electronic processing negates any social behavior. Providing both ports have a static IP address, couldn't you just redirect all terminal services traffic coming from outside on your router/firewall and NAT it over to the 2nd port.

I'd love too see that attitude in effect, come end of term, end of year, exam time etc, doing nothing at home will only thwart them, as they're going to have to stay behind at school and get everything done, as per contract, all marking, exam preparation, grades, reports HAVE to be done. It's perfect, adopt that attitude and a mountain of garbage comes your way, win win to be honest!

Guys, When editing posts, after spelling like a Y5 pupil, I don't get the option to save changes made instead I get the option to "Vote Now" which I happily clicked and it saved. Cant you login to single-user mode, from there you can either, su into root, perhaps blank password, sudo a command if a member of "wheel" group and run passwd root and set a new password for the account. I've found during failed installs it generally resets using a blank password "even if the installer enforces a password" you can still blank it.

Chat clients are easy, Gaim for the majority of them, aMsn for MSN, if that's your cup of tea (keeping in contact with the missus at home etc) GIMP for graphics, incase you're ever pestered to do something for a member of staff and the likes. You sure can, Samba 3 and joining Active Directory. Very brief, to the point, precise. Your SMB.conf file will need modifying slighting with userhome, script locations, mappings etc, but its not hard. allow domain logins = yes (is the final step) You need kerberos (MIT or plain), and samba (Advise is easy, the easiest answer is actually CENTERIS) 3rd party opensource software that joins without configuration to an AD domain, you'd still need to tweak a bit, but the groundwork and configuration will all be done Likewise Open AD

I see, as explained above. Very interesting indeed, never noticed it last time the machine was around. So, I'm too guess that at a default theres going to be extra bandwidth used, when using ntlm_auth and theres not much todo about it, I suppose the fact that its only a request rather than a full page load is a bit easier. I always assumed, browser request > squid (auth yes|no) > auth yes request page.

OSX > Linux (Ubuntu) > Windows. theres kerberos communication between ubuntu and windows, as you've clearly set this up, not sure how an un-authenticated osx request would be handled by the ubuntu machine, when its expecting a response from the PDC. Windows user prints to Linux, linux machine asks windows if this is ok, response ok via kerberos/samba/winbind, document printers. OSX user prints to Linux, linux machine asks .... if this is ok, response unknown, as the linux machine doesnt know what to-do with the request?
