  1. MS ISA does the same. We have a rule too deny all social networking sites during school time, including email providers. One lunchtime hits, and after-school its all open. Works a treat, and nice to be able to limit other sites as well.
  2. Our office windows outlook the Y9 play-field, and the main administration buildings. Its a lovely sunny office. Our server room outlooks our hidden courtyard, complete with Table, chairs, umbrella, BBQ, and grapevine. Its a sun-trap.
  3. Hi All, Currently have a really annoying problem with Office 2007 installations. Let me explain the problem. When a user presses F1, in any 2007 application, excel, word and so on. The menu loads. However when the user searches for text it doesn't populate any results, even if its a common query. What makes this more bizarre, is the fact it works on my machine and not others. I have tried a office repair, reinstall, add-in installation but nothing fixes this problem. Anyone else have any advice on where to be looking? ( Non-rangered machines, Mcafee ENT AV etc) Alex
  4. Hi All, Earlier today, our Poweredge1800 server which runs MS Exchange 2003/Secondary-DC started beeping, very obnoxiously. 1 of 4 HDD has "degraded". However removing the drive, the server is still beeping. Believe me when I say this, its MAJORLY ANNOYING. Anyone know how to turn it off?

    Shockwave

Anyone aware/know where I could locate and download an older version of Shockwave? Current latest version is not working within school, on any Rangered machines, however ranger is not applying any policies, as we're using a test group. When the "game" is being played, it starts to "configure components" and just stalls. I have tried to find the new location of the settings folder, however 11 is no longer stored as %systemroot%/system32/macromed Any suggestions and/or ideas. If anyone does how the older MSI install file, could I pinch IT?
  7. Thanks for that OutToLunch, solved the problem perfectly.
  8. Will do, but at present we don't have Firewall/Spyware packages installed, just pure Virus Scan.
  9. Wired. The telnet command is only really there as the end solution, more along the lines of trying to see if the server is routing smtp traffic properly which its not. Another point, working from my Laptop, I'm the only one without Mcafee AV on, while the servers and all other workstations have it. Having tripple checked other machines, they cannot telnet, where I can. I cannot see anything in the server policies nor workstation policies covering telnet, or any SMTP traffic scanning anywhere.
  10. On the server the software is running from, or the server I'm trying to telnet too. Wsusserver (Has Ilient Sysaid installed) Its supposed to send email notification on tickets and servers that are down via SchoolMailServer. Settings are all correct however, it wont send the SMTP request to the SchoolMailServer. However, if I install Sysaid on my laptop, and configure it exactly as above, it routes the notifications (or rather sends them) via the Mail Server.
  11. Not a DNS setting thats for sure, same error appears with an IP address Server to Server (telnet works) APART!! From this one server, which has recently been rebuilt. The only IP/MAC Firewall filtering in-place is inbound gateway, on the staffs internet gateway (BIND-IP to MAC) Vigor3300, but thats outside, not inside
  12. secmon.exe (Even if you allow it, it still has an issue with it) The whole reason we dropped Sophos, its not compatible with ranger
  13. Hi All, Quick question. I cannot telnet from a certain server. It has been recently rebuilt Windows 2003 Standard + SP2. Trying telnet server 25 in CMD and it says "Could not open connection to host". However running this from my laptop, and I get in straight away, same with all the other servers. Windows firewall is not enable, there are no port blocks or anything along those lines. Just find it bemusing it isn't working. It has software on it, thats meant to send quite a bit of mail traffic through. Which would be SMTP:25. (Same installing the program on my machine, it works correctly) Any reason Port 25 would be blocked? Or anyway to find if something is using that port. Many Thanks
  14. Working in IE, Safari. Not Firefox. =D
  15. LDAP: ldap://PRIMARYDC-NAME-HERE:389 But either way its port 389. and if required DC settings. Eg test1.school.local (DC=test1, DC=school DC=local) Or however its setup If you screenshot the blank fields, I'll be more than happy to help
  16. Sure does, but its missing AVI compatibility. Your better off getting the CCCP codecs which run in IE, Firefox, Safari
  17. K-lite. Missing 3-4 codecs. CCCP codec back found here: Combined Community Codec Pack has everything Which installs with VLC iirc.
  18. We seem to be having the same problem at the moment. To clarify the problems read below. User logs onto MS Outlook Webaccess (Both Rangered, and non rangered) opens an email with an attachment, from here two things happen. PDF: 1) Document attempts to open, loads Adobe plugins etc but doesn't open within the new browser window, but will open once you press F5 on the refreshed page. 2) Opens Adobe 8.1.1 program, with no document loaded, but opening the file again, loads the document (On the basis that 8.1.1 isn't closed) 3) Cannot open document directly, saving to desktop and than opening works EXCEL: 1) Document loads MS Excel, but blank document opens. Re-opening the document without closing Excel opens it (as PDF.2) 2) Cannot open document directly, saving to desktop and than opening works WORD: 1) as (Excel.1) 2) as (Excel.2) We've tried resetting security on browsers to no avail, tried on non-ranger machines, on machines with unrestricted ranger profiles, private gateway requiring no authentication, ISA2000 proxy and the likes. Now don't get me wrong, I've search within google so many times, and everything I find is irrelevant, or too broad a search term. My only hope is that someone else has experienced the above and knows a solution
  19. Seems to have worked locally on my machine. Will have too test further for deployment.
  20. No need. Students are running behind ISA2000. RM/IFL Filtered. Where as Staff have a private 8MB line with no authentication (only that the firewall only allows static ip's bound to mac address's listed through) Still doesn't work for me, on the private line. Where would one acquire the patch notes for Aprils fix?
  21. It does work however. Try telling 600+ students to-do that is another story.
  22. Ranger 5.9 =(
  23. Funny you say that... there is no error message. Unless of course, once pasted Word has a container the size of the image, but no content as an error log
  24. All, Currently running with Internet Explorer 7 in the ICT suite at school, and Office 2003. Seem to have a problem copying a picture from lets say google, and than pasting into word. (Machines are Rangered) I highly doubt its Ranger, as even on my own machine, cannot copy and paste images. IE7? IE6? (Doesn't work at home either, XP SP2, Office 2003) Alex
  25. I didn't mean to imply it was a vanilla network, rather the settings/installation of IE7 default and clear of any side interactions.# I'll give the ADM file a try. Otherwise its a regsvr32 /s .reg on login script.
