Typing: schoolname.sch.uk/joomla into google IS NOT going to redirect to an internal server in the school unless it already is setup that way. Many a school don't host their own websites. EDIT: As an example: http://eportal.ourschool.sch.uk/ is a DNS A Record, pointing to our internal server, same can be said for ourschool.sch.uk/eportal

Why would a hosting company require the files back, why would they waste resources on very few files that may/may not be important. If the hosts are reputable, they won't give a damn, and the easiest way to just leave the disk in a state for the next user would be rm -rf. The hosting company are likely to hold backups, so your data is always their's, they'll have a copy somewhere, and will likely format the disk themselves and re-install said linux operating system for the next lease holder.

Still need a DNS A RECORD for all this, fair enough creating virtual directories and URL Rewriting, but you still need to foward schoolname.bham.sch.uk/joomla to the correct server. I know our *.sch.uk is controlled by RM, others may be LEA, and the likes. Say, your external IP address is 84.84.84.84, you'll want to redirect sch.uk/joomla to 84.84.84.84, from their in, you can redirect the traffic to the server. Virtual directory will than kick in and feed the Joomla website.

As root: rm -rf /* Reboot, and enjoy.

Running GNOME. We have VNC enabled on the server, however whenever we VNC into the machine, from home or internally, the background screen freezes, and the interface freezes. The copious roles undertaken in a school are seen as excellent experience when apply for other jobs. When working outside education, most placements/establishments will take 4 years education experience over any qualification out there, it IS the best experience an IT (support) role can undertake. You may move into a more specialized field, and never change toners again, or run around plugging cables in etc. The worlds your oyster. 2nd Line Support is a good field to go into, highly paid, and easily down.

How many children processes is ntlmssp running, don't forget when you restart squid, you close all child processes, and this can take some time. I'm personally using 50 child processes, and squid can take anything from 30-60seconds to shutdown, but thats no hardship, it starts instantly. Just reduce number of child processes, or specify how many run.
