About YouKnowWho

  1. Not really, I dont mind working in one type of field, I just can't figure out which one. When looking at jobs, they all seem to want people who are highly experiened in one field. For example I could start training for an MCSE and try for some network support roles, or get some proper software developement qualifications and go down that route. I just dont want to start down one route, and find out that my past 4 years experience is worthless.
  2. Was just wondering what careers do people move into after working in schools? I've been working at an Independant School for the last 4 years, as a Network Support Assistant. I get to work on everything, from creating the Image for PC's, configuring our new SAN system, and developing SharePoint etc.. I really enjoy my job apart from having to deal with the end-users (i.e teachers). So i'm thinking its time for a change, however i dont know what jobs to start looking at now.
  3. Hi, We have been using PASS for about the past 3 years on the academic side. PASS is very simple and easy to use, although it is looking slightly out of date. WCBS are going to be releasing PASS.WEB very soon, which will eventually allow users to access most of the academic side from webpage’s. PASS doesn’t have built in support for actually creating timetables, but does have support for importing from NovaT, and TimeTabler. So you would need to use another product for creating timetables/cover. Since PASS is based on a SQL database, you can get any type of report you want from it. The report builder within PASS is very powerful, and easy to use. Failing that you can use the ODBC views that PASS provide to get data into Excel, Access, Web pages etc.. WCBS are a very good company, one of the best things is there support. You do not get passed around from one department to another, all the support team are very helpful and knowledgeable. They are big enough so you know they wont be going bust any time soon, but still small enough to listen to their customers. It does save a lot of time/work by having just one system across the entire school. We also have our admissions department using PASS, so when a child registers interest there details are added just the once into PASS, then if the child becomes a pupil, all it takes are a few clicks and then the bursary etc.. all are able to access there details. No need for duplicating details in different systems. Hope that helps a little.
  4. Hi, we use PASS quite extensively, have had it on the academic side of things for about 2 and 1/2 years now. The bursary have always used PASS, but we decided it was about time we integrate, was previously was using sims! We use most of the admin side, school reports, assessments, admissions etc.. Teaching staff were a little apprehensive about using it at first, the biggest problem they had was school reports previously were done in word using mail merge, and they didn’t like the fact they had to use PASS. Although we explained they wouldn’t have to actually mail merge anymore, and its extremely easy to enter reports most started using it with no problems. We have one member of admin staff who mainly deals with all pupil and parent details i.e. updating it. We have 3 people in admissions who all enter data in the admission section of PASS. The director of studies does all the updates on external exams etc.. A member of the library staff is responsible for updating all subject sets, assessments and school reports. Think that’s about it, sorry for the long post, any more questions please ask, I will be happy to answer.
  5. Is your board still in warranty? We have had this happen a couple of times of our boards, the end result is always a new board. When we have had this problem when they came in to fix it, the guy run the smartboard pen down the right hand side of the board, and at various points the line would just bow out. He said instantly that the board needed replacing, might be worth trying?
  6. Do you actually have sophos installed on the server? We had a very similar issue it was because of "on-access" scanning within Sophos.
  7. lol glad i could help. Its on netsupports knowledge base. http://www.netsupport-inc.com/support/td.asp?td=256&Site=nsltd&Lang=
  8. Hi, We use to have the same problem with Netsupport. After viewing the client screen DirectX was disabled. If it happens again check this setting in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Graphics\DCI Make sure Timeout is set to 7. Netsupport was setting that value to 0, which was disabling DirectX. If it is 0, change it to 7, then restart the PC, should fix the problem.
