Joke all you want, but I think this is going to become a genuine problem for shops. People have enough choice (what with amazon selling pretty much everything now) that customers don't really need to go into any shop. The customer has all the power, if people don't want to jump through whatever hoops the shop puts up (be that masks or anything else), they'll just buy elsewhere and the shops will suffer. The govt isn't going to bail out shops that are failing because of this anymore than they would a shop that's failing because there's no market for it. Which is going to put a lot of pressure on shops to lift restrictions which then puts staff at increased risk and in a horrible position of having to work somewhere they're not comfortable. Which is to say, I do not envy retail right now.

Interesting read. But having read the thread and some of the linked articles, I'm confused. Is it airborne or aerosolized? Because the tweets keep saying airborne, but all the links talk about aerosols.

All new printer fleet installation, new SIMS server, new storage server, cupboard is being turned into two offices which need IT setting up, PE block is being reconfigured (and of course there's a shower slated for where the network cab currently is), all new CCTV across the site (on it's own network), and 23 new switches to install. We also need to make a start on getting SharePoint set up. Not to mention GCSE results day cratering the schedule as the whole IT team have to spend the day taking photos of excited/happy students, and the 2 weeks of summer school (which I'm sure won't have any impact on what we're planning ).

But what's the Dutch vaccination rate? As I understand it, the idea is that vaccination of the at-risk groups is supposed to break the link between infection rate > hospitalization rate > mortality rate. The theory being that the % chance of someone getting seriously/fatally ill stays low because the people who's risk of getting ill is climbing have a much lower chance of needing hospital treatment. Of course I'm sure someone can quote some numbers and show me a graph of why this is hokum.

As far as I remember we haven't had a staff case since January (possibly longer). We've had a couple of students test positive around half term, but nothing since and only about 5-6 student positives since Christmas. We're told if someone tests positive but exactly who doesn't normally go out in the all-staff email, it will just be "a year 8 student" or whatever. Only those who might need isolate are told more. Seems to be working okay from my point of view. But being vaccinated and doing twice weekly LFD tests probably makes me less worried about the whole thing generally.

We're using the web-filtering component in Sophos for remote laptops, which seems to be working pretty well.

We've not had any issues re-enrolling them into our own Intune.

We're supposed to be getting them back in so we can put them on our management/filterting solution, which admittedly was taking a couple of days while we worked out the kinks in enrollment (I think the guys have it streamlined enough we can pretty much get the device back to the students the same day now). Despite making it clear they will get the/a device back, we've had a grand total of 3 returns so far, which is making me in favor of the idea that the DfE disable the devices once their Intune expires.

I can put my desktop on a UPS and have it show up in windows like a laptop battery, and there are too many USFF devices that use laptop components for hardware ID to be consistent enough. supportman's idea seems far more likely.

How can MS enforce the webcam thing? It's not like windows can tell whether it's installed on a desktop or laptop.

@jmak, you could use the Power Automate approval system to do most of what you're asking for. Automate dose have connections to 3rd party systems and apps, but not many that look like payment companies so you might have to have a manual step there.

You should be able to use or in the Odata. If you have a year group question in your form, you could work around the problem by creating a "case" object with your year-group question as the value and case statements for each year-group and in each case statement, use "set variable" to put the student name (from the year-grouped name question ) into a variable (you'll need to use "initialize variable" at the start of the flow to create the variable). Then you can use the variable in Odata statement.

If you've got Office 365, +1 for power automate. We use it for our Staff absence requests to do pretty much exactly what you're thinking of and it seems to be working really well.

I think you want the "list rows present in table" option. Yet according to friends who work in London, companies aren't selling off/letting go of their office space, which suggests they plan a move back to having people on-site. And I can't believe they wouldn't pass up the opportunity to save money if they didn't see some theoretical benefit.

Hi, Most of our switches aren't stacked (and none of the newer ones have been), but we have a couple of cabs where there are some legacy switch stacks. Now we're looking at replacing a lot of our older switches including the ones that are stacked. Reading around, I can't find much benefit to stacking aside from management, and the stacks have uplinks from each switch in the stack back to the core. So what are the benefits of keeping them as stacks when we replace them? We're looking at replacing 3Com SuperStack 5500 series with Aruba 6100 series - yes, I know the Aruba 6100s don't stack so we'd have to get another model if we wanted to keep the stacks.

But I can get a storage server with 20TB for under £6K. Why are SANS so much more expensive? (I always assumed they'd bee cheaper, or at least no more expensive than a full fat storage server)

I'd say cloud. You get plenty of storage with the basic tier MS and Google tenancies.

The article's paywalled, but I vaguely remember seeing those animations before. Does it take into account that covid is an aerosol rather than full airborne transmission?

Thanks for getting back to me.FYI, we're a reasonably large secondary (1500 students). Historically we've set up unique accounts for all the supplies that come in for security/auditing reasons, but it's something to think about.
