+1 for Design Management Systems. We use them for a lot and they've always been good. We've also had good experiences with Trams and Softcat.

I vagally remember a few years back @ICTDirect_Dave put together an alternative-to-apple music suite build. Personally, I don't see the point in having one apple suite on an otherwise windows network just because it's "the industry standard", but if it's what the teachers want.

We use recyclable VDI sessions. Students have full access to the machine and a server share to save work, but not the rest of the network.

It may be getting caught in some other part of the guardian policies. Maybe try putting them in a we filtering whitelist under Guardian>Policies.

The simple thing is to keep the same SDS profile and move the expiration date back, but I'm not sure how you then selectively expire the courses that you do want to get rid off. You'd also have to make sure your courses keep the same name year-on-year so the sync continues to match and you don't get the new Y7 English class winding up in last year's Y7 English team.

As far as I remember Smoothwall automatically creates wildcards for incomplete domain entries. So "*.cloudfront.net" can just be entered as "cloudfront.net" to allow/block/etc any URL that ends in "...cloudfront.net" Also make sure the Do not Inspect policy is above any Decrypt and Inspect or Validate Certificate ones, as S-wall process policies top to bottom. We use Sophos Central, but having a whitelist policy for the handful of required URLS seems to have worked fine.

In our meeting room, the TV is 2-3m from where the head sits for her to be able to see the screen comfortably and the biggest issue we had was finding a camera that didn't show too much of the room. Most webcams seem designed for people sat close so go for the wider angle lens. EIDT: Also, she'd need be further back for the camera to not be obviously looking up her nose when she looks at the screen.

Something like the Logitech meetup is the first thing that springs to mind, but that might be overkill (or more than you want to spend on one person). Do you need the camera to pick up audio as well as video? Or is she using a headset/desk mic? Would she be open to a headset/desk mic? Because anything other than a "room sized" solution is going to have real issues picking up audio form that far out. We're in a not-too-dissimilar situation where the head liked to have her "zoom" meetings in the meeting room on the big display screen. We went through a bunch of cameras, including the Microsoft LifeCam Studio (nice unit, very good audio, I'd recommend it apart the rather wide lens angle), but wound up with some cheep thing off amazon because it had the narrowest field of view. And then paired it with a desktop microphone. All the cameras we tried seemed happy enough running on longer (in our case 3m) cables if we use a powered hub the other end, although over that distance you'd be better using a USB over CAT5/6 adapters. The a room solution like the Logitech is ideal, but it's going to cost. Otherwise I'd go for USB over CAT5/6 and hunt down something with a good zoom.

Similar to the others. We used to have big, single evening parents evenings, but when we went online we split it across 2 nights running from 16:15 - 18:03 (because schoolcloud parents evening system has set 6 minute appointment slots). As far I've seen, the teachers love it.

We're in the same boat as the OP (just looking into how this might work). And most (if not all) 1:1 schemes seem to work under a lease deal. The parents "buy" the device we've chosen through our 1:1 portal and pay something like £15-20 a month (or the school comps them using PP/additional funding). During the term of lease, the device is the property of the school, so we can manage and restrict all we want, then at the end of the lease (by which time they've paid off the balance of the device) ownership transfers to the parent/family. This appears to be the standard way of doing it right now.

Surely if you're backup up that regularly you'd use rolling backups with a fairly short history (probably pared with a weekly/daily parked backup), which should cut down on storage requirements.

If it's scheduled in windows task scheduler on the server (how I've had it set up before), then you should be able to just right click on the task and go "run now". I guess Shutdown /m \\COMPUTERNAME /f /s is what's kicking out your error. Have you tried using the Shutdown /i interface?

We're looking at replacing/upgrading our wireless and Aruba Instant keeps coming up, and looks like a very compelling solution. Has anyone got any IRL experience with it? If so how does it compare to a regular AP+controller system? Are there any weird gotchas we need to be aware of? Thanks for the help. Rob.

The Covid restrictions say "up to 6 people" or "2 households". Consent issues aside, and assuming the other guidelines around distancing are met, 6 people from different households outside is fine. (Parents golf club has been looking into this for competitions and I get to hear all about it) In other news, some of our contractors have been wearing "stay socially distant" high-vis tops, which are rather nifty.
