TBH going up by a version number and dropping off support for older hardware every few years sounds exactly like Mac OS to me. 11 goes out through windows up date pretty automatically on supported hardware if you let it, so would it really make a difference if it was called "Windows 10 Update 2"? It also makes a good business case to replace all our older PCs over the next couple of years.

At what point does it stop being a covid-19 "variant" start being it's own strain of covid-22 or something?

I enjoyed what they did with Picard episode 1 it was great to see all the cool federation ships (apparently they reached out to the star trek online team to help with those scenes). But am a little worried that we're going to go off and never really address what what happening in episode 1.

Having WMP (or whatever it's called now) open with a video playing will stop the screensaver/display timeout, even if WMP is minimized. It's my ghetto solution for stopping the PC locking while monitoring a remote support session. Years ago I had a custom screensaver set up with the school logo spinning. Now most people seem okay with the screen going blank, and as long as it comes on when you wiggle the mouse it's fine. Using hibernate might be a different story though.

School was closed, but of course they wanted someone from IT in "just in case". Just watched the football goals and outdoor furniture migrate it's way across the site and we had a power blip earlier, but otherwise we seem to be holding up okay.

I'd better stock up on free tests from the school while I have the chance. I assume if they're not going to be free anymore twice weekly testing won't be a requirement anymore. (Or is this another school staff are different from everyone else thing?)

Depends what you mean By "interactive whiteboards". If you mean the white touch enabled "screens" you use with a projector, the no. I didn't think they even made them anymore. If you mean purpose built, large format touch-screens like the Smart MX series, then yes.

I guess using the interactive login GPO so they have to click through the AUP every time the log in is out of the question?

1: You can add external users to a Team, which should give them access to all the Team's resources, including it's associated SharePoint site. 2: As far as I know you still can't share externally from Streams. But you can just save the video in SharePoint instead (and it's shareable just like any other file).

If they're Office 365 and you're feeling adventurous then Yammer could probably do mini-blogs. Although they'd wouldn't be publicly visible.

In Outlook desktop app, you can put the shared calendar and the users one in side-by-side view and drag appointments across to copy from one to the other, or use ctrl-C/ctrl-V to copy them. In Google calendars, under options (the ⋮ icon) there a "Copy to Joe Bloggs" option.

I'll have a look around, but I'll be really disappointed if our parent email system doesn't have this set up.

Hi all, Our parent emails sent through Operoo and MS forms auto responses to parents with BT email addresses are all being blocked as spam (apparently this wasn't the case last week). Is anyone else having similar issues? Or does anyone know what we might be able to do about this? Thanks!

Remember this doesn't include the UK. Also, while I personally don't see the loss of FB as a great imposition, we saw what sort of disruption this could lead to in Aus when FB just cut off the news sites (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-56099523). And if FB goes presumably they'll take Watsapp (and all the other bits they've bought over the years) with them which might be even more widely disruptive. From a theoretical standpoint I'd love to see this play out to the point that Meta just don't operate in the EU just to see what that would look like and what sort of things would take over. But realistically I could see it being a nightmare for the average citizen who's photos/contacts etc are tied up in FB products.

Didn't something similar happen with Australia, and FB pretty much got what they wanted by threatening to cut the country off (or possibly following through, can't remember the details).

If both grandsons are mostly over at the same time and you want super low effort then you could just have a look at getting the dock/controller for the switch so they can plug it into your tv and play together. I'd probably go for a xbox1/PS4 which you should be able to get second hand at a reasonable price, both of which have a pretty good back catalogue and can play newer games if they want (XB1 probably has a better range of retro games and would be cheaper).

For maintained schools, it's the exports into the County database, which otherwise would have be done manually. (At least that's what I've been told)

They're technically the property of the school, so I see no reason why they couldn't be donated as long as both schools follow their asset transfer guidelines.

We use Kramer PT571 / PT572+ for some more awkward classroom runs and they've been no hassle. And you only need to power one of them (the other will POE). https://www.kramerav.com/Product/PT-571 We've got them domain joined like a normal PC. Only differences to our regular PCs are the auto-login (domain account) and the installed applications - Don't need anything other than the xibo client and PowerPoint. All our screen PCs are wired, but we have an old laptop for testing layouts and that seems happy enough over wireless.
