Does your new ISP provide IP phone functionality? When we changed to FTTP internet with Box broadband, they had an offered a voip service if you wanted to keep a landline (we didn't bother).

If we're going this route, I say we have a single globally universal time so everyone's the same, and then people/countries just standardize when they work based on daylight hours. The only possible issue I haven't worked out yet is people who have the 11:59-00:01 rollover during their daytime.

Based on what I've seen/read Azure AD with Autopilot would be the easiest way to set up something like that.

What do you mean by "autonomy for the SMT"? That they can customize their "user experience", eg their own backgrounds and start menu layouts? Or full on, they can install their own programs? I don't see why you would necessarily need virtual desktops for either of those things, although I guess it depends on if their roaming from PC to PC. Will staff need to carry settings from PC to PC (or do they have laptops, or only ever log onto a single computer)?

Yeah, 7.5k for the edge switch configuration you're planning, using the aruba 6100 pricing we got for our upgrade last summer, as a general price comparison. What you're specking looks pretty solid to me. The other thing that came up from our upgrade, do a connection audit and rationalization before you spec up your switches. We managed to free up a whole 48 port switch from one cab by unpatching all the unused connections.

Pricing seems reasonable to me. Based on the prices we got last year, it would cost about £7.5k to it using Aruba, and Ubiquity tends to be a bit cheaper than HP/aruba. If you're looking at fiber links between the switches, don't forget the SPF modules (although the unifi ones are on £20 a pop so shouldn't overly effect your budget).

If you have a Smart UPS wouldn't that have logs of power usage? And even if you've got a non-smart UPS you could probably still use it to get some real world numbers (unless that's where you got your original 500w from, in which case ignore my rambling).

On could argue that, in this era of internationalism, working from home and flexible working, the time on the clock shouldn't effect any of those things. There's also plenty of "research" pointing to the jet-lag of changing the clocks having a noticeable effect on productivity and safety.

I'm the same. All for getting rid of daylight savings but would rather stick to GMT than BST year round (I don't want no gom'mit stealing my time!!) The EU were so close to abolishing daylight savings a couple of years ago, but got sidetracked dealing with the pandemic and now it looks like it's going to be forgotten. (admittedly letting each country choose it's time-zone sounded like a recipe for disaster)

Are the emirates offering free travel for BETT ticket holders this year? (or was that always because January's their off-season).

It's odd getting back from a BETT while it's still light. In fact it's odd going to BETT while it's not cold and drizzling.

Hi, Recently (or not so recently, but no-one really noticed before now), Outlook started "checking" our SharePoint links. Which would be great, but it doesn't seem to get on with our email groups/distribution lists. If I take document shared with all staff (through our All-Staff permissions group), and email a link to (for example) our science department, it will say "the science group doesn't have access to the link" despite every member of that group having access. If I expand the group then Outlook says it's fine. This is causing a lot of confusion, and taking up a lot of technician time trying to convince staff that "despite what outlook says, everyone you want does have access to this folder". Does anyone know of a way to suppress this popup, or better yet make it work properly? Or if someone can explain why it's giving us false warnings, that would be great. Thanks!

If it's long term recuirring things like contract expirations, or the old "hoover out the projectors" job, then we just have recurring calendar events.
