Rather random problem on my home PC. Ever since I upgraded to a Samsung Oddysey G9 mini-LED monitor I've had weird intermittent blinking issues (where the screen will go black for half a second), in full screen applications (games and video playback). It's never happened on the desktop or with the same programs windowed. And (of course) it's not happened why I try to screen record games to see if it's a monitor/cable thing or a system output thing. It seems to happen the same with regardless of HDR being on or off. Does anyone have any ideas what's going on or has seen something similar before?

We're using a 3rd party tool (but I'm pretty sure that's just using powershell to read AD OUs and send a shutdown command). Previously, I've used a text file of computer names exported from AD and read by a powershell/batch script (but that was a really small school), or a GPO provisioned scheduled task.

Any particular reason?

I mean probably, but then I've never been a hugely fast typist. And given the use case, the real question is, can you type faster than you could write, one handed, holding the laptop in the other, while running after a student?

The ultimate non-ipad solution is a surface with pencil, but that's expensive. What about something like this? You may joke but we have a plain one of these in the kitchen to write the shopping list on.

Cunninghams is working well for us, we're Bromcom, but they use Wonde so I don't see why it should be any different on another MIS. The setup went really smooth and the canteen staff find the system easy to use and nice and quick. How are you planning to ID the students, rf card, fingerprint, facial recognition, etc? Cunninghams (along with most systems) will support all the obvious ones. [Edit:] Cunninghams will do fingerprints, part of the install was having a tech in for a day to help get the bulk of the kids registered. We use mostly fixed till points, they do a wireless tablet, but you have to sign a waver saying you understand the risks of doing transactions over wireless.

Looks good, just don't forget the f-series doesn't have onboard graphics (not really a problem as you have a separate GPU, but it has caught me out with troubleshooting in the past).

TBH, I'd use Bromcom's SMTP. It's free up to 3,000 emails a month and the prices after that are okay compared to other bulk-sending services (assuming that going over 3k emails a month to parents means you're doing whole school mail-shots).

Can anyone recommend me student-proof laptop for use in SEND? Ideally something with some drop resistance, and a "less pickable" keyboard.

Which is strange, because google keep saying this, but it still works fine for me at home. At school, we have the remove ads content modification policy running, but it doesn't seem to stop youtube ads for us (which we put down Smoothwall not being able to keep up with google's attempts to bypass adblockers).

Does anyone know what this blue flag on P6 for the student's register means in Bromcom Modules>Attendance>Registers>Manage Attendance? Nothing happens when I mouse over it and our attendance officer hasn't see this one before.

I don't see why Office 365 or Google edu wouldn't do what you want. Especially for student facing resources.

We've also just moved away from Iris/Biostore. Their support was a very mixed bag. Immediate issues (like the myriad of sync problems) were often dealt with in a reasonable timescale, although I've found engineers have a bad habit of opening a remote session and then not doing anything on it for a couple of hours. Getting support for larger issues (like why we keep getting sync problems), were just kicked down the road. When we spoke to them (at this year's BETT), they were pushing their new, much improved, cloud based solution, but that didn't support biometrics yet. We moved to cunninghams, which so far has been pretty smooth and seems to be working well. Edit to say, we steered away from using ID cards for cashless catering (despite having student ID cards), because they were considered too stealable. It's much harder to borrow someone's finger without their consent.

If I cycle too close to the edge of the road I'm worried I'll end up clipping a pedestrian, or the street furniture/bushes that's always far to close to the side of the road.

Minor nit, but the last time I asked a police officer about this (admittedly about 20 years ago), they said there were no specific exceptions in law to no cycling on pavement laws/restrictions. Letting little kids wobble along the pavement next to their parents was just considered widely accepted common sense.

At what point is it just easier to block the whole site? At least until the kids move on to something else. It's not like downloading fancy fonts is part of the curriculum.

We have an AUP warning at logon and use Forms/Excel to track annual AUP signings for staff and students.

The "endless scrolling isn't great", especially given the system seems to promote breadth of content in the feed rather than providing similar shorts to the original one. I'd be tempted to try just blocking the "V1/reel" url so the videos are still accessible but you don't have the temptation to scroll through half a dozen more. (TBH, I might try to do this at home)

Depends how hot you like your shower, and how long you spend in it. I wouldn't expect recharge to be able to keep up with a power shower, so ideally you'd want the tank to be big enough for whatever a normal shower is for you.

We block for most students. Where we have exceptions it's only allowed during lesson time.
