Yes, if they're connecting from home then they're using their own device already. Odds are pretty good they'll have access to a smart phone or tablet device at home (for a lot of them, I imagine they're using an iPad for their online homework anyway) and you can even MFA using a landline if you have to.

We only force MFA for staff at the moment. But we use conditional access policies to to bypass MFA for users on the school network (presenting from the school's external IP). No need for phones in school, but they'd be prompted for MFA when connecting from home. This seems to be the "standard"/most common way of setting up MFA at the moment.

And there's supposedly a season 2 of Hijack in the works. It'll be interesting to see where they go with it. Maybe a train this time... As you seem to be working your way through Apple TV shows, I'd recommend Constellation if you haven't seen it already.

If you're just looking to run a test, then speak to your filtering provider. They should have some test phrases that will trigger a filtering/monitoring response, but get flagged as system tests in any reporting.

If the cable was out of spec wouldn't it just limit the speed to 1gb? I can't see office computing needing more than a 1gb connection for the foreseeable future, but I guess you never know.

I've been looking at installing electric/automatic blinds in the bedrooms at home with some kind of scheduled opening. Has anyone done this before and has any advice, recommendations, things to avoid? No blinds up at the moment. Thanks!

Looks like a good plan to me. I'd probably look at replacing the whole lot, mixing and matching is probably just going to lead to headaches down the line. Sounds like a good idea. What's the business case for doing this now? I guess if you've got the money and cabling guys are already coming in then why not? But if the current cabling is working fine, then there's no real technical reason apart from "future proofing". If you're going hard on the mobile devices then I could see an advantage to this, although I'd maybe focus on switching to managed switches more than increased speed (no reason you can't potentially do both).

We've always had good experiences with Sony TVs, and their price for the QD-OLED range is coming down a bit now. Samsung mini and micro LED tech is worth a look and normally comes in a bit cheaper than OLED.

I'd say Intune if they're going to be used off-site (which it sounds like they are).

We've had a Eufy LR30 for a year-ish. It's been fine at traversing between hard-wood, tile and carpet, and will even try to climb the half inch up onto the fireplace hearth somewhat successfully. But it does have a habit of dragging the door mats around behind it. It's lost wifi and needed re-paring a couple of times in the year we've had it, and it's been known to knock it's brushes off on the radiator pipes, at which point it just sits there beeping plaintively until someone fixes it. I liked the idea of self emptying vacuums, but all the ones I could find used disposable bags in the base station, while the non-self-emptying ones just had a washable dust compartment.

I might be worth seeing if there's anything built into your MIS before you go shelling out for separate system.

The main advantages come from the e-ink display, so battery life (I get around 2-3 weeks out of mine with active use - a bit more if I turn the wifi off when I'm don't need it), easily visible in bight sunlight, no backlight so no screen glare. Supposedly less latency than apple pencil, but it's not really noticeable IME. The slightly textured surface has more of a paper feel so you don't get the glassy glide you have on tablet screens. I would say the remarkable has slightly better palm rejection. And it's about 80g lighter than an iPad. I love mine. But I'm not sure I'd ever recommend it for schools when, for the same price you can get an iPad and pencil that will do pretty much the same thing plus a load extra and is more easily manageable etc, etc.

Still got it here using Micorsoft 365 A3 for faculty.

Could be worth checking if someone like Hey or Box have coverage in the area as an overhead line would make for a comparatively simple install for FTTP.

Fair enough, I was thinking from the point of restrictions against misuse by students. If you need all that then remarkable really aren't fit for purpose as they don't even support doing most of the things you want, let alone through an MDM. If you really wanted to use them, then one could make the argument that, used offline, they're basically a notebook. But given the premium price tag it seems silly to compromise rather than looking for alternatives which would probably be cheaper and could have more features.

Remarkable don't support remote device management, so any restrictions would have to be enforced through policies. If remote management is a deal breaker, then you could pitch an iPad and apple pencil for about the same price and with loads more functionality.

Only watched the first episode so far but it looks good. Is the whole looking through a brochure of available children really a thing, because on the face of it that seems kinda weird (although I can't think of a better way to do it so...).

What are you trying to stop people doing on them? They aren't tablets, they're digital notebooks. All you can do is write stuff or doodle, like on paper (or download PDFs and annotate/doodle on them). There's no web browser, at most you can download docs form your OneDrive/Google Docs and email note pages. The most management I can see you needing are the user subscriptions, which you can do through their business portal.

We always buy (and get support) through MSPs so I can't speak to rep and vendor support. However, we've also found Lenovo don't stand up to the school environment as well as Dell or HP. And I've been told anecdotally by suppliers we aren't the only school that avoids them.
