I might be massively wide of the mark here, so do feel free to ignore me, but... Looking at what's been brough up in this thread and your responses (I applaud your willingness to change based on feedback), I feel like maybe you're a little too close to this or that you've dived into the nuts and bolts of making it too quickly. And perhaps a lot of these sort of things could be more easily seen by yourself if you took a step back and started with something akin to a scoping document where you could map out exactly how, in an ideal world, you want all this to work. Again sorry if I'm overstepping.

Yeah. A1 for exchange online and sometimes teams, and P2 for MFA.

We use Faculty A3 for most staff and the Student version for all students. These just have everything on. We've got some staff like catering and governors who just have A1+P2. Most of the time these just have email or email and teams licenses.

I could see it being ok at primary level. As a lot of primaries have fixed menus published well in advance and often ask parents to pre-order/book their kid's food, I'd rather have the option to pre-pay for the meal ahead of time, ideally alongside booking the meal, with the school/lunch supplier. But post payment isn't a deal breaker by any means. What your proposing probably wouldn't fly at secondary where the more "caffe" style canteen is predominant, as it's basically letting the kid buy as much as they want directly on the parent's credit card/bank account. Could you not have the parents buy credits and then you store their account balance/"virtual money" on your side?

Compared to 10 reasonably durable Bluetooth headsets that looks pretty price comparable. I think, in part what you do comes down to how much you have to spend and how old the kids are. Something like a tour system might be more cost effective at scale (based on a quick amazon search), but I can see it being a pain with younger students.

That's a Corsair K100 (I think), they're like £200 on amazon. I think it's worth a couple of hours work to clean up.

The trick with most of these things is to write it yourself first and then ask AI to suggest improvements. Then it's just suggesting ways using more impactful language or fixing spag errors rather than generating something wholly new which you then have to fix.

Also depends on how much storage you have. We're a single, medium/large secondary, but we've got a enough paper storage that if we run it down to near empty we can buy 2 pallet-loads of paper at once (maybe 3 if it works out we can get A3 and A4 at the same time).

Nice. I assumed google had some sort of DLP, I was just wondering how it stacked up against the MS offering. By the looks of it, there's not much difference in capabilities or the way it works.

Based on what I've seen people say on here, the 365 conditional access seems to have more granular customisation options than Google's. What does Google have that would be the equivalent to the 365 data loss prevention tools? (Things like data security labelling and blocking or warning the user against the sharing and emailing of certain files, or documents containing things like National Insurance numbers or bank numbers) After conditional access (where it looks like MS has the advantage) and anti-spam (where google is probably better out-of-the-box), I think DLP stuff is probably the biggest security element schools are likely to use.

Anyone who primarily uses Google and occasionally dips into 365 is obviously going to be rather lost. But it works the same the other way around, as primarily a 365 user, if I need to do something in google, it's a case of stumbling around until I find the thing I need. To be fair, these days they seem much of a muchness. But coming from legacy office, I personally found it much easier and smoother to transition to 365 than google.

We went office 365 because we'd already been using it for email for years and it was pretty simple to roll out new features and bits as they became useful/needed. It seems to work fine for us. I can't say we've run into the issues that Mav mentions, but that maybe more due to the way it's used (most of our file sharing is done in-browser).

True. But if we're talking about blocking her ability to log on then I assume she doesn't need the old account anymore so perhaps the easiest option to ask the old school's IT lock her account early.

Come to think about it, if they shouldn't be using it, then why hasn't the old school locked her account?

If both you and the old school is 365, you could get them to SSO/auto-login to your 365 domain when the browser first opens (and block incogneto/in private). At least it makes it a bit harder if they have to log out and back in to get to their old email account (and auto-SSO would keep trying to log them back into the school account). And if you're both google, there are chrome settings that can straight up stop users logging into unauthorized domains.

Our Guest Wifi has broadly the same filtering as staff. Wifi logins are set up by us or reception for the duration of a visitors visit. But for us guest wifi is mostly used by outside lets or training orgs, with a few accounts for peripatetic music teachers and councilors.
