I've just brought a new 6 bay Synology DS1621+ and have used quite a few Synology NAS and would definitely recommend them.

Morning, I've had a request from one of the computing teachers for a MySQL server that students can access and use for working with their Python projects. I'm not really too sure the best way to go about this as I'm really not keen on having anything like this on my server infrastructure. Has anyone had to setup anything like this at all? Cheers

Morning Has anyone found reason as to why the initial Invite email would not work? We have the issue where the students are clicking on Accept Invitation and it will say that the code has already been used? All we can do is just reinvite the students. I would love to hear how people have got this setup and not had issues. Its a simple process so I can't understand why it causes so many issues.

IP of the machine is static. App is going to https://secure.squidcard.com which I have also allowed in the web filter as well as added to an authentication whitelist. I have tried to send you a PM with a screenshot of the polices created but EduGeek says it contains too many characters for some reason. The static IP has been added as an exclusion in there. I have managed to get IE to authenticate with my credentials, this then allow IE web access but the sync app still errors with 407 Proxy Auth Required.

Just had a remote session with the Squid support team and we have some more information. There is no proxy settings within the SquidSync app. No proxy settings on the local machine. Fully unfiltered access and no authentication, however when you try and use IE 11 then Smoothwall is prompting for authentication and no matter what credentials I use it just refuses and keeps asking for credentials.

Just got to wait for our Squid support to get back to me. I don't have any passwords to get into the config of the Squid app.

So the computer has no proxy set, just ticked to Automatically detect/configure like most by default. @ibpalle I will send you a PM with screenshots of the policies. Error is still the same in SquidSync, cannot get the smoothwall prompt now to ask for credentials and have confirmed the unfiltered access appears to be fully unfiltered.

I have tried both those suggestions and could not get either to work.

So I have added the destination URL into the Bypass Authentication now and still getting the same error. I can browse the internet on that computer quite happily with no prompts but if I go to like the Network Settings page in Windows I then get a Smoothwall authentication prompt. Enter a login details in there and it doesnt accept and keeps asking. I thought adding the machine IP into the exceptions would not require the computer to try and authenticate?

Good Morning, Hopefully a quick one that someone will just know. Our cashless catering server (canteen PC) runs the SquidSync application to sync payments up and down students Squid accounts. This week however it is throwing an error 407 proxy auth required. I have added the machine's IP (set static) into the Smoothwall exceptions (Guardian - Web Filter - Exceptions) so that it should have unfiltered Internet access, but it is still prompting the 407 proxy auth required error. I have also allowed the domain that it is trying to connect to in the filter. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Cheers

Quick question. If I was to license all my staff with Microsoft 365 for Faculty, and that entitled me to Microsoft 365 for Students, would I still need an OVS or EES agreement in place for the desktop suite?

Good Morning I am trying to setup the parent/guardian sync with SDS. We are currently using the OneRoster API setup through SIMS ID to sync our students and Teams over to 365 which is now generally working OK. We now need to setup the Parent/Guardian sync which Microsoft have said needs to be created as a new profile in SDS with a CSV upload. The question is though how can I generate the CSVs for the parents and link them to the students SIS ID? From what I can see the SIS ID for the students does not link to anything in SIMS to be able to pull a report from. Although I'm not good at SIMS so I could be wrong. Any help on this one would be great! Cheers

We too have been having this problem but the guidance we are giving is do not admit any guest users despite what name they type. Guest users will always have (Guest) at the end of what ever the users type.

Quick question on this one. How long did it take for this setting to apply to all staff? Does it change the setting for meetings that have already been scheduled? Also does anyone know to lock a meeting after it has ended? Thanks,

Afternoon, This is a bit of a strange one but hopefully it makes sense. I have a Smoothwall firewall that is used for all internet traffic apart from VOIP. Behind the Smoothwall I have a HP Core Switch with VLANs configured including Server VLAN. For VOIP Traffic, I have a pfsense firewall installed in the VOIP VLAN with a public IP and going straight out to the ISP router. I have a persistent route added on the VOIP server for the Server VLAN which points to the HP Switch as the gateway (needed for DNS). However the Phones cannot connect to the phone server/internet and the VOIP server cannot connect to the internet when using the internal DNS servers. I feel like I am missing something obvious. This was working until I moved the physical servers into a new rack. Any help appreciated! Thanks

We have it so that Teachers have to change the lobby options from the meeting options so that they have to admit everyone into the meeting. I have not looked yet to see if we can set that as the default option though.

We also had it where staff were not disconnecting before moving rooms and that just locked up their laptop. Restart Windows Explorer generally fixed it and got them going again, if not it was a laptop restart.

Don't suppose you have a rough cost for this? The website wants an inquiry before giving a price.

Good Afternoon, Hoping someone may be able to help, I'm not having much luck with Capita support. Our year 11's have just registered with SIMS online to be able to use Options Online. This has now caused an issue whereby SIMS ID is changing their Office 365 usernames to match those that SIMS ID has given them. I'm a bit confused as to what is going on but if anyone can shed any light on this issue or experienced this then that would be great. Cheers

Not sure if it is related but I recently had an issue with our Smoothwall where our WAN interface kept dropping intermittently and would cause issues with slow internet, audio on phone calls dropping and random disconnects. After eventually getting a Smoothwall engineer assigned to the case and pointing them in the right direction - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/214100-intermittent-drop-internet-connection.html - they had to roll back a driver update on the external interface on the Smoothwall. Since this has been done we have not had the issue.

Morning I have not really used Microsoft Stream yet so still need to have a play around with it. Just wondering if anyone knows though, can you stop students from downloading videos that staff upload. So when a teacher records a live lesson and uploads it to stream we just want the students to be able to view it but not be able to download it. Thanks

Enough power is delivered from all our projectors. Mix of BenQs and Epsom. We have used USB plugs as well where the cabling and projectors didn't allow direct connection to the projector
