Microsoft Wireless Adapters - Anyone use them?
lmrogers replied to sonie's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Basically just turning the projector off and then back on again kills the connection and then allows the teacher to connect. We are making the display adapter the main input so pretty much stripped out other connections. -
Microsoft Wireless Adapters - Anyone use them?
lmrogers replied to sonie's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I rolled them out over summer site wide as the school wanted minimum touch as staff moved room to room. Really happy with them. Occasionally the adapters need rebooting (unplugging and plugging back in). The only other problem was the sound. We had to wire the projectors into the speakers directly so that the sound would work wirelessly as well. Staff have noticed that kids were connecting their phones to the projectors between lessons but that has been the only "problem" really. I did do a 6 step instruction sheet and stuck that on all teacher desks as well. -
Teams - students able to mute and kick others
lmrogers replied to jblackburnHWGA's topic in Cloud Services
Morning, I have applied the policy through Powershell and it works that all the users invited are attendees but it does not mute them by default and they are still able to unmute themselves. Have I missed something or is that how it's meant to be? I know you can hard mute them in the meeting but we need to make it default for our teachers. Thanks, -
Thank's that is helpful. Its a slight pain, as was hoping to use EntrySign live to complete the full roll call for all students during a fire drill but if it doesn't pull attendance data from SIMS that probably isn't going to be possible.
-
So I'm just going through and setting it up. We are only going to have our 6th form students signing in on the screen but have EntrySign Live and want it to sync the attendance from SIMS for the rest of the school. Is that how you have got it setup? Also how have you configured the marks and timings? Cheers
-
Afternoon, Just wondering if anyone is using the EntrySign sign in system and syncing it back with SIMS? If so how does it work with writing attendance back to SIMS? Cheers

I've just been physically in the server room looking for other bits and was actually watching our smoothwall s8 appliance for a bit and kept seeing the WAN interface dropping network activity. So that would probably explain the issues. Just got to try and get a fix now.

Good Morning, I am looking at setting up PFSense to route my phone system traffic as I am having issues with call drops when it is routing through the Smoothwall. I have QoS and bandwidth shaping on the Smoothwall but still it has not solved the issue. The thinking is to bypass the Smoothwall and route all traffic for VOIP through pfsense. Has anyone done this previously and got any tips for the setup? Thanks in advance!
-
Yeah I have set that up as well. I shall have to keep looking at try and figure out whats going on.

So I have installed the 3CX server. Added the port forward under Network -> Port Forwards. Added firewall rules from the SIP Trunk IP to server IP for 3CX traffic. Made sure that under Services -> SIP it is not enabled, as that was causing SIP ALG fails when running the firewall check in 3CX and I'm pretty sure that is all thats needed. Unless I have missed something.
-
Oh right, yeah I have IPS disabled on the port forward but still have the issue.
-
So I have IDS enabled on the External WAN port which includes the external IP Address for 3CX. Do you know of a way to remove just this 1 IP address from that policy? Thanks
-
Thanks for the info, I will have a look more at the Smoothwall logs. Out of interested how did you setup your pfsense? I am going to be moving from Smoothwall myself next year. Their support has been awful recently.

Morning, We are suffering at the moment with really bad phone lines and calls cutting out mid conversation. This is only on external calls. Our SIP trunk provider cannot see any issues with the trunks and from Wireshark traces I have sent over they seem to think that the issues are coming before it hits them. I have the 3CX server hosted on our Hyper V Cluster and all phones on their own VLAN. I have QOS on our internal HP switching for this VLAN and have also give VOIP Traffic priority and a guaranteed 10MBps on our Smoothwall. We are still having these issues and I'm not completely convinced that our Smoothwall is handling the traffic correctly. Does anyone have any pointers on this at all? Any help now is greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Morning, Just a quick one to see if anyone is using the Comodo One/Itarian RMM tool at all? I'm looking at just using it for patch management and possible remote connections to servers as a backup if ever my VPN goes down. Any feedback from others would be good Cheers

Morning, I'm going crazy again. Over the summer I migrated our print server from a Server 2019 VM onto a new server infrastructure cluster. Still on Server 2019. I used the same drivers and everything. Setup is exactly the same from what I can see. Since then though when users try and print double sided they are getting PCL XL errors and the print job stops. All the errors are completely different though. I have tried all sorts and still seem to get issues. Any pointers would be grand, I'm running out of ideas. Cheers

It makes so much sense doing that until Intune is actually ready and flexible to do what we need it to.
-
That is what I'm thinking. Looking at getting SCCM installed as I love that for deployment.
-
Morning, I've been thinking about this for the last week and need some opinions. Before my predecessor left he moved all staff laptops over to Intune and Azure AD, leaving all on site PCs hybrid joined and managed through both Group Policy and Intune. I have been finding Intune though quite inflexible with the staff devices and having the devices managed solely through Intune/Azure AD is causing some problems. Staff do not get prompted to change their password when that expires, printers and papercut do not authenticate properly. The laptops cannot authenticate against the wireless so staff have to keep signing into the wireless, which then causes problems when trying to sign into the laptop and not realising the wireless is not connected. Also the deployment is currently done manually on them which is very time consuming. I am now considering moving them back to AD and removing the Intune management until it is possible to test it more and it becomes more of a developed solution. We do run Always on VPN so would still be able to manage then somewhat remotely. What are other people's views? Cheers

Yeah we are back on as well now. Just got to clear up all the tickets from staff and students now.

Is anyone else having problems with logging into EduLink this morning? I'm getting a lot of tickets and when I try and log in after entering my details nothing happens. Cheers
-
I am looking for some advice. Our school currently uses EduLink for creating Parents Evening bookings. Does anyone know of a system though that parents can use to book which then creates a Teams meeting in the teachers calendar? Thanks

Morning, I am just going through creating a new profile for SDS in SIMS ID to create all the Teams and 365 Groups. In SIMS ID though I cannot seem to create a new Academic Session. It lets me fill in all the details but when I hit Save it does nothing. Has anyone else had the same issue or got any pointers? Cheers

Indeed, I don't know why I do any of this work on a Friday. I always miss something. I don't suppose you know a way of confirming if smoothwall is authenticating the correct user? When I go to a blocked page it tells me its blocked for the group but no indication that it has picked up the right user

Cheers guys, so it looks like it was a slight mess up when I created the NPS policy. All working now and connecting. Now I just have to get it to play with Smoothwall
