Yeah. We did have admin staff (finance, premises, HR etc) using vanilla PCs on CC4 for several years until 18 months ago. N: is mapped by AD ("Map x to users area") not by GPO. The GPOs are all based on usertypes ("ABC Teaching Staff Usertype", "ABC Student Usertype" etc) which are just group memberships.) We kept our own set of GPOs for admin staff, outside of the CC4 OU (Establishments). Peter

Does it stay running forever, as you say, or has the screen just not refreshed? I had this several times but pressing F5 shows that the task has actually stopped. On 2008 R2, you need to run the task with either 'highest' security, or for 'server 2008' - I can't remember which it was I had to set last month.

Do you mean this (ie you can't access the Smoothwall Express remotely from outside of your house) or do you mean you can't browse the (filtered) internet through your Smoothwall Express? Is the Smoothwall Express box physically in between your network and the Virgin box, or just connected to the network? (How many cables go into the Smoothwall Express will answer that question)

My neighbours' is in what was a covered porch, but she put UPVc windows and door all round it to form a cloakroom maybe 10 years ago. She uses it for every wash, and I suspect with the number of kids/grandkids she has that she probably does theirs for them as well. I'll send you a pic later Tim to compare.

Actually you're right... I just loaded up my ping app on my iPhone - if I ping any of the static local addresses eg intranet, it cannot resolve the IP. If I ping intranet.mydomain.local or intranet.school.org then it works fine - all three of these are static in Smoothwall, although the latter are also in my domain DNS which are conditional forwarders in smoothwall.

In Networking > DNS > Config, have you (still?) got static entries for eg "intranet" without tld? We don't use local names on iPads so I haven't tried it; any service that iPads needs has a corresponding .school.org public address, but smoothwall still (currently) has statics for those. Having said that, with the new conditional forwarders in Carisbrooke I can apparently remove those entries for anything mydomain.local and .school.org but I haven't tested it yet. Peter

Hi, Does anyone know how to recreate the MITM certificate on a Smoothwall box with the right name? Mine is showing as smoothwall.local but my box is firewall.mydomain.org so Decrypt&Inspect isn't working. @OB1? Peter

Hooray! Finally got this working. I had to re-download the certificate and bundle together from GoDaddy because although the one I had validates and installs without the bundle, as soon as I used the new bundle with the old (valid) certificate, FoldR discarded it and used the builtin one. Anyway, sorted now. Thanks for popping by Mike. Peter

Does anyone have reference to these files? We've just got landed with this - BCS/ECDL are visiting after half term to make sure we're all nicely qualified and tested etc. Also, anyone know if all the requirements in Office can be done by GPO? Eg adding 'Compare and review' to the quick access toolbar? Turning on 'Sections' on the status bar? Peter

We've done the same this September, from their three specific IP addresses to my one specific IP address, for LDAPS port(s?) only. I hadn't heard of Read Only DCs; I think I'll look into that. Peter

There is, but a) the Edugeek app wouldn't let me reply the other day, and b) I wasn't sure whether it was publically available or whether you needed permission from Capita to get / use it so I wasn't sure whether to post or not.

The update downloads, but fails to install. Can't remember what combination of settings I had it on now.
