Yeah I discovered this recently too. REALLY annoyed. I just cancelled the Amazon instead though - I'm not buying a second streaming stick just for that. I also read about Sky being behind it - that would explain why all the adverts on the Roku main page are for things on Sky Now...

In education also. Secondary school, 11-18 with about 1300 students (although number are low the next couple of years ) - How about you?

I'd like to install a software to teach the students how to type. Something 'fun' as they seem to insist on using the computers at lunch and break, even though they have nothing to do on them! It would be nice to have some students who don't use the capslock key for each capital letter! Can anyone recommend something which is free, and easy to install over the network. A save feature for each student would be nice, although not essential. Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean! When it comes to learning new stuff I've always been quite independent, in that, I really don't like being told how to do it (unless I ask!) - I don't like it assumed that I don't know. Haha I sound horrible! I'm really not, but I think it comes back to what you say about looking weak. I'm not an idiot, and will ask when I need to know how to do something, but I like to have a go and try to figure it out myself to begin with. Where in the UK do you work?

Oh it's quite the oposite here! I'm really disorganised. My desk is a total mess, although I'm sure I only just cleaned it the other day! My boss' desk is super tidy and organised. Even his desktop is, whereas mine...well, the less said about that mess the better! I got my job just over 2.5 years ago here. I did work in the school already but I really wanted this job so applied for it. I have no qualifications in IT, and no experience other than a personal interest. But as there were already two experienced members of the team, I think I got the job on personality and ability to learn. Which I have done. I've learnt SOOO much!! Especially now we are a team of only 2, I've had to take on a lot more.

So our IT teacher wants to use Turtle Academy for the year 6 induction lessons. But you have to register and sign in etc. which isn't practical for a whole bunch of year 6 students who are just here for the day. Can anyone recommend a similar product we could perhaps install, or use without registering?

I am in a team of 2 - me and a guy (my manager). There were 3 of us, another guy, but he left for a new job and wasn't replaced as the school thought we are okay with just two staff. I work 40 weeks a year and my manager is 52 weeks a year. The school has 1300 students (inc. 6th form) plus over 100 staff so...!!! But I also get called Jen haha! Makes me chuckle though. Nice to know our students watch some good TV. My language isn't great when among my peers, but I of course in school have much better ways to express myself. The other day I came out with 'Gosh dang it!' (I'd been watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' haha)

Thanks for the reply, I perhaps ought to have updated! Sorry about this! It turned out, after all of this, that someone in my team had moved WSUS to another server before he left to go to another job and forgot to tell me! D'oh!! So the old, unused, WSUS is what I was looking at. As soon as he told me, I looked at the new one, and it was there...!!

Does anyone use this? http://www.touchdevelop.com When our students use this and they put in more than a few 'lines', the scroll bar doesn't appear. It does in chrome, but not IE10. I don't know if it's anything to do with us, or IE. Any ideas? Thanks.

I like Roku - that's what I have. But can't get Amazon TV stuff on it which is frustrating - as you can on the US Roku. Apparently something to do with Sky owning 20% of Roku so...

I was thinking the same Anthony, but have just been and looked - directly across from the screen are some internal windows, so there'd be no where to attach it. Unless we used suction cups haha! This place loves windows!

See I can't find a short throw which will give that size projection. Need to go and measure the hall - it's possible we could have it at the back of the hall (it's not too big), secured to the wall there somehow. What do you use?

So we need a new projector for our hall. The hall is windows all down one side so it's very bright in there. Could do with projecting to an absolute max. of 2.4m squared - (that's the actual size of the screen). However, would be nice to have the projector seated as close to the screen as possible. Can can't have it ceiling mounted due to the height of the ceiling (and ball games in there) so either short throw or we'll continue to use a table and set it up every day...which is really frustrating! Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks.

Everyone seems horrified that it looks like Conservative will get a majority. Everyone I've seen, everything I've read online. So who on earth did all that voting for them? Or perhaps it's just the company I keep only shows a particular view.

So we have a Twitter account, it was used historically but not been used by school for a number of years. I just took a look out of interest and we have about 600 followers so we really ought to be using it to get information to parents etc. It's a useful tool. However, whilst having a search of our school username on Twitter, I see some students have written some silly things. Likewise with Facebook - we don't have a Facebook account, however there is a 'check-in' page with our School name - and some students have written silly things on there as well. It seems a shame to close the accounts because of this, as we'd really like to start utilising them better. How do you manage things like this though? It must happen with all schools I imagine? Thanks.

What does everyone else do? We don't have a debit / credit card so all I can think is to use vouchers, but not sure how / where to get them? One department wants to purchase apps... it's just the staff iPads so not concerned about app management or anything at this point. Just the simple purchasing.
