So if I lock a students screen with a 'message' in AB tutor (rather than lock out to take control) it seems to apply this to the terminal rather than the student. I've only noticed this on our thin clients which are run on remote desktop. But what ends up happening is the student shuts down the client immediately, but when the next person connects, the lock screen is still in place. Does anyone know a workaround which will clear the lock screen when the session disconnects? Thanks.

I was in a similar position to you about 3 years ago. I don't have any qualifications in this field but began working in it all the same. I've learnt so much along the way through just being polite, friendly and having a laugh with my co-workers. They have taught me a lot. Be independent, but also remember that there is a wealth of information right in your office from the rest of the team so if you can't figure out how to do something, don't be afraid of asking them for help. I agree with @witch. There are lots of jobs in school which you'll only do once in a blue moon. Create a word document or similar and write how to do them. You'll forget if you don't do it all the time. I spent the first year of this job trying to find spare bits of notes in my notepad on how to do something, and the 'How To' document is incredibly useful. Include screenshots in it etc. so you can always remember how to do different things. You will learn a LOT in the first 6 months and you'll soon be looking back wondering how on earth you learnt it all! Best of luck!

Actually this is a valid point. I got a bike a while ago but don't feel safe riding it on the main road in rush hour or anything like that, navigating roundabouts etc. simply because I don't know how to stay safe and what the rules are. I could however, just hop on it if I wish and go and figure it out - which would be very dangerous. I would love to attend a 'cycling road class' or similar, but there doesn't seem to be anything like that available?

So we run xibo and it does collect new content. Once I've updated a region (PowerPoint), the clients pick up the update because the region turns black. So the old content disappears, but the new content isn't displayed until I exit the xibo player and reopen it. It's a bit of a hassle to have to do this on every screen each time. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

So basically these tiny USB receivers keep getting left in computers and going missing etc. So I've got a collection of remotes and receivers, none of which seem to be paired with each other. Does anyone know if it's possible to 're-link' them? Thanks :-)

Could the WMI repository be corrupt? Try winmgmt /verifyrepository in CMD to see if it comes back as consistent or not.

Hmm that's a good idea @Danp Where do you get yours printed @Steve21 @Danp ?

So our 6th form wear ID. There is the potential to rolling this out to all students but nothing certain yet. Currently they have generic STUDENT lanyards. Does anyone have school branded lanyards printed, if so, where and what is the cost difference over pre-printed? Thanks.

So we have notifications about clubs and messages in one section. Another section which has photos from recent school events and then there is a third section. I've used it for a variety of things, most recently some maths mnemonics - other times "inspirational quotes". Does anyone have any ideas of something interesting / useful which can go in there? We use Xibo so these are mainly made in Powerpoint. Thanks.

So I'm trying to install a program via GP. It's installed on one computer without and problems. But another computer just isn't having any of it. It's trying to install, and is showing as error-ed in the Application Log. It's showing as faulting module name ucrtbase.DLL amongst some other information but that just appears to be application path etc. Any ideas why this is might not be installing on a an identical built machine - the only difference being processor (the faulting one is an AMD, the working, Intel). Both are Windows 7 x64 Thanks.

Voted - It sounds like a very good cause.

That's interesting - we had this today for the first time (well, first time anyone's mentioned it). We just used VLC instead.

...not sure if I'm in the right section here. I need a few suites of PC's. Who are some good suppliers? Thanks.

So I'm not sure what I'm asking about here. I know the products exist but I'm not sure of the names etc. A product which will link with SIMs and allow parents to log on and do a variety of options such as -view their child's attendance -update contact details -view their child's tracking -view their child's recent reports -potentially connect with the school cashless system and view what their child is buying for lunch What sort of thing am I looking for here? Thanks!

Amazing @computer_expert - you certainly live up to your name!! Thanks.
