I think they are referring to devices that have been returned/not yet distributed, but you can rest assured it isn't just your students. The linked article also encourages schools to apply their own management/security settings 'as soon as possible', and gives a link to instructions from the government on how to do this. I'm also quite relieved to find that we aren't expected to make the standard laptops as secure as I thought we were. There is no mention of applying local security policies and it even advises against setting up an MDM if you don't already have one. We've had 20 standard laptops delivered and we don't have SCCM or Intune (nor do I have the time to implement/learn how to use it, right now!). I have considered getting the BIOS password for one of the secured laptops, exporting the local security policy and importing it into the standard. Would that work, do you think?

I've connected them through the school's proxy while logged in as .\localuser. While configuring a proxy IP has been disallowed, using an automatic configuration script hasn't. I've just used a PAC file like I do for our iPads. Chrome will use the proxy PAC fine but Edge is having none of it.

There could be a whole thread of hilarious replies to that tweet, so I'm going to intervene with this question: How many of you have had bubbles closed since 8th March and how does it compare with last September? From what I recall, it was about this point after return that we had our first closure in September. As far as I know, we've had no positive cases here since March...yet! (KS2 approx 400 pupils and staff)

I agree about the power strips on the Zioxi's. I've had to repair the (non-moulded) plug on several occasions after people have tried to move the trolley before unplugging it from the mains. The internal plug to the USB blocks is moulded, though, so I've just fed it out of the back of the trolley, bypassing the power strip entirely.

No photo but I saw a pure white dove* strutting along the pavement as I was driving, this morning. I don't think I've ever seen one other than in a magic show. (*or an albino pigeon!)

I don't think so. Unpaid carer came up as one of the options so I selected it, answered a couple more questions and was accepted. It will be a huge reassurance for me and my mum.
