Hi guys Does anyone know much about Apple's 2 step verification process? If you haven't noticed yet next time you log in to your VPP account to manage facilitators you would won't be able to do so until you set this up. It might not affect you if you don't need to access that area again but for new Schools or people like me that work for a support team installing sets of iPads for Schools and helping them set up VPP it could be an issue. Until they brought this is in the vpp manager account wasn't really used other than to register for the program but now they want it attached to a phone number and a device. Will other IDs be able to be used on this device or do you only need to sign in if you need to recover the password? and do you know if we could use the same iPad/number for multiple accounts as we tend to set the vpp up for Schools before we visit to install. Failing that could a Mac mini be used as the device for this to save having to use one of the staff/students iPads? I might be over complicating the relevance of this 2 step verification but just trying to establish how it will affect the way we help Schools set this up. Thanks

I'm trying to establish if the changes Apple have made changes the way we need to structure the registration/setup. Until they made the change the vpp registration ID was only used to register the School for the program and create facilitators etc so wondering if having to do the 2 step verification will affect things? :/

Hi I've had the same issue, is the 2 step verification necessary if the vppmanager account is only for registration, does it have to be tied to a specific device? We normally set up vpp for the School before we do an install so we know it's working beforehand, do you know if it will let us use the same device for all the vpp accounts we create as we normally create them before the kit has arrived. Hi Guys Some apps such as Garageband, are paid for through VPP but then require a further in app purchase to unlock the full functionality, is this possible using VPP? or is there another way round it? Thanks and hope any one reading this has a great Christmas

It looks like you can still just download a spreadsheet of codes and import them into AC as normal, as well as the managed distribution option. Hope they keep this option available too as like others most Schools I deal with use iPads as shared devices.

I agree, the software COULD be a really handy tool and make the whole process of deploying iPads fairly manageable but the contant bugs with it is really starting to take it's toll on my time having to go back to Schools to fix lost supervision, app code errors and what ever else goes wrong with it. Surely for a company like Apple it shouldn't be that hard for them to just make it work as it should, right? lol. And yes an extra restriction to stop them going into Settings would be a god send!

The issues i was having were after the 1.4 update but havent tested again since 1.4.2, is it any more stable as i've heard mixed reports?

Hi, for number 2 it actually worked for me but for some I had to do a couple of times but it did stop opening iPhoto. My biggest problem at the moment is for a set of ipads that had updated themselves to ios7 over wireless, configurator doesn't want to know about them now!

on mine when i deleted the apps in AC and re added them it let me put the codes back in

That's good you managed to fix it, do you use passcodes on your iPads? If so have you had/got round any issues with them being wiped each time they're refreshed?

Hi I'm currently working through a series ofissues updating a cart of iPads to iOS7 which are connected to a mac minirunning Apple Configurator. Below are the issues i am having if case anyone has come across them already pls. If i fix them i'll add to this to help anyone else with thesame problems.... Just to mention the Mac, iTunes and AC are allup to date. There's 32 iPads, on around half of them someof the kids have already updated the iOS over the wireless which means some ofthe apps now don't work until they are updated to new versions via AC. So problems so far: 1. When the new versions of apps were importedinto AC they were all showing as free inc paid apps so the codes couldn't be assigned. FIX: Delete the apps from AC first before you re-import them 2. Since the latest updates when the cart isplugged into the Mac iPhoto launches to view the photos on them and i get 30+boxes telling me "Photos in camera roll of iPad 'name' cannot be importedbecause the device is locked with a passcode. You must unlock the device toimport them" A suggested fix is to open Image Capture and set it to notlaunch any app when the ipads are connected but it doesn't make a differenceiPhoto still opens and this message appears every time. 3. When I plugged one iPad into the macdirectly with a usb it updated to iOS7 ok, but when i plugged the trolley innone of them would check in to AC and i got 30+ boxes saying "AppleConfigurator could not connect to this device" The problem seems to bethat the iPads have a passcode on them... For the iPads still on iOS6 if the passcode isentered and then plugged in (either via usb directly or in the trolley) it thenappears in AC ok. Having a passcode on them didn't stop them checking in beforethe update?. For the iPads that have been updated over thewireless (now on iOS7), the problem seems to be when the passcode is enteredand then connected a message appears on ipad screen saying "Trust ThisComputer?" This is a new message? It's annoying as thecable in the trolley isn't long enough to work on the ipad while plugged and itwill be a pain to have to plug them in to usb one by one to turn passcodes offand click this message. 4. Another issue with passcodes is onceupdated, the user is prompted to enter a passcode as it does but each time theiPad is refreshed it wipes the passcode and prompts for it to be set again. It's annoying that before all this i was just starting to get to grips with it all argh! lol, anyway if anyone has come across these issues and hasa fix please comment

It seems to be doing a lot of weird stuff since the update it's causing me a nightmare!

I've got round this now, incase anyone else has this problem it was a corrupt download that needed clearing out of the folder in: Finder/Go/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Caches/com.appl e.configurator/Downloads & and Firmware Once I deleted the file in there and downloaded again it worked

Tell you what, this software is enough to drive you mad lol, if anyone can help with this issue i'd appreciate it, I've spent hours on it to no avail.... I have a class with 31 iPads, sync trolley, mac mini and Apple Configurator (AC). I've read some of the other posts on here from people mentioning iOS7 issues so the first thing I did was make sure the mac OS was up to date, iTunes updated, and AC 1.4 installed. Just to see how the process would work on a single iPad I plugged one in via usb and tried to refresh it, AC detected iOS7 was available and went through the process of downloading it but when it came to unpacking/installing it failed with an error of "MDKZipUtilitiesErrorDomain error 1" and that's as far as it's got. Some of the kids have already updated several of the iPads over the wireless by setting it off from Settings but I wanted to do them all at once with the trolley/mac. The only info I've found for the error online suggests the download might be blocked but I don't think that's the case as it looked like the file had downloaded and then failed at the next stage, and also for the fact the update works when doing it manually over the wireless. The annoying thing now is some of the apps have stopped working on the ones that have updated as they need the latest version supporting iOS7. I don't really want to create a backup of one that is updated and wipe/restore it to the rest. Has anyone else had this issue or any ideas to get round it? Cheers

I've seen Fingerprint used before and it worked quite well, i've tried to use it for a recent installation i've done and it seems to of been replaced by "Presto" instead which requires a monthly subscription, i'm sure Fingerprint was just a one off fee and that was it (the subscription isn't expensive but more than the one off would be). Can anyone suggest a cheap/free printing solution similar to Fingerprint or do they all seem to be subscriptions now? thanks.

I've done that recently using Apple Configurator on a mac mini connected to an ergotron cart and it worked quite well

Hi I finally did my first install using Configurator last week (i got a load of useful info from guys on here to help me through the process thanks!) overall i've been quite pleased with how it works and it makes deploying apps and a master image a doddle compared to how i was doing it, there's just a couple of things i haven't cracked yet if anyone has come across these issues to help pls.... 1. I've bought 31 licences for the paid apps i want, used one code to redeem in iTunes and imported it into Configurator. When i imported the spreadsheet i noticed it wouldn't use the code i'd used in iTunes ("unable to redeem code with iTunes store") so re-downloaded the spreadsheet and re-imported it but still the same. I've deleted the app and added it again and the assigned codes automatically appeared but importing the spreadsheet again hasn't made a difference... i've checked that the mac is authorised with the ID in iTunes and rebooted etc but no difference. For now i've just bought an extra copy of the app but i'm sure it should let you use the code you've used to download the app with? 2. I've created a base profile with just the wifi settings in which has got them connected to the net and then trying to add the Meraki profile to them. When i first apply the profiles about half of them fail with installing the Meraki one but if i keep refreshing them or do them individually it does it eventually, is this just AC being temperamental or is there a different way to make sure it installs when they all refresh? 3. Lastly, I'm running AC on a Mac mini, never used one before and its only being used to set the iPads up, i've set it up as a stand alone but i need some form of backup for it. Is it worth using the Time Machine utility for this or can it be linked to a windows server backup, or any other suggestion if you use something different? Cheers

I like the look of Meraki, i'm going to use it for restrictions but as it apparently needs input on each device to install an app i think it'll be easier to do apps through configurator. I've checked iTunes is authorised, tried a reboot, tried removing the app from configurator and readding it but when i click on the number to add the codes its remembered them from last time and the one with the error is still there, importing another copy of the spreadsheet still doesn't make a difference. Any more ideas? its driving me mad lol

Hi all I'm after 30 of these cases for iPad 3 as a supplier has let me down, does anyone know anywhere in the UK that does them? I ideally want this case as i know it fits a trolley that has been ordered but would consider something very similar (durable with a built in screen protector). Cheers! K.
