We have here a Hybrid Cloud, a public and private combined. We allow all users to access documents via our own, custom built web based remote solution - Public and also allow staff our own VPN configuration that we built using the web - Private. I think the future is cloud based computing, look at the way other companies and pretty big tech players are going, you will soon be creating user accounts and setting GPOs on a web interface pretty soon, this is the way its going - No specific device restricted applications and webapps.

IE Policies after upgrading Server to IE10
SovietRussia replied to Jawloms's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Oh, we have to use our Backup DC to do this now as it still has the old way of doing it, Or you can add a GPP for IE7 and IE8 and IE10 -
IE Policies after upgrading Server to IE10
SovietRussia replied to Jawloms's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I'm not sure it if will put it back, but to manage IE 10 you have to use GPP. Perhaps, you might need to redownload your ADMXs for that server to put it back -
[android tablet] Locking Down Nexus 7
SovietRussia replied to Gongalong's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
It sounds silly that no-one has produced free educational android lock down solution. Ill take a look at it -
We also have a W700, but we find we want to plug in alot of USB devices (keyboard, mouse etc) - As there is only 1 USB Port we have to use a USB Hub.

Apple TV's - can you set a passcode?
SovietRussia replied to kennysarmy's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
@kennysarmy Your original question asked about mirroring passwords, i'm not sure if they can be set via Restrictions. -
Yup, and you also have to check that every port/firewall exception is done before you attempt this. Here, we wanted to navigate to the devices using our FQDN/mydevices, but of course, were on the LEA Filtering Proxy. So they had to handle some DNS for us for the sodding iPads to actually work with the FQDN. If i was going to do iPad deployment for the first time, I would go with Meraki.

[ipad] lightspeed Management without a mac?
SovietRussia replied to Bev's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
To supervise iPad devices YOU HAVE TO USE Apple Configurator. Using iPhone Configuration Utility WILL NOT supervise your devices. You MUST use Apple Configurator, which is a bit of a pain, but you can understand why Apple have done this. Btw... Supervising your devices will allow you to do more stuff like "Deny uninstalling of apps", but you should be able to lock down the profile easily without supervision by putting on the profile a removal password. (Students can still remove the Lightspeed MDM Policy though, but the restrictions will still be installed as that policy needs a password, that you can set in the web console) And no, you do not need to supervise your devices to manage them, its easier if you do, but it will still work without. If you got any questions, feel free to PM me. -
I was excited by the Sea one, be pretty cool if there was proper boats.

You have to have some serious ports open for PM to even work properly.

iPad / Apple TV / Licensing - Deployment HELP!
SovietRussia replied to KTECH's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
First of all, good luck! Yeah, setup the one iPad with an Apple ID that is like trial@yourschooldomain and install a few paid apps to it. Mess around with them, see what they want etc. Now create a backup (You may have to remove the paid apps and your Apple ID first, and DEFINITELY remove Meraki profile!) Then open up the iPads, restore from the backup you took Then on each iPad, sign in with the same Apple ID (The one you have VPP tied to) Enroll each iPad into Meraki Use Meraki to push the VPP Codes to the iPads (Word of warning, you will need to type in the Apple ID password every time you install the app) If you had Configurator, you could make it much easier. (I may have missed a few things out, but this is what i've gathered when doing research, as I also have 49 to deploy this half term!) -
Apple TV's - can you set a passcode?
SovietRussia replied to kennysarmy's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Apple TV's can be configured using the Apple mobileconfig files that also configure iOS Devices. Create a simple profile with a passcode using iPhone Configuration Utility (Avaliable for Windows) and plug your Apple TV into the PC using USB, then on the Apple TV you can install the profile from the Utility program. Then you have a passcoded Apple TV. EDIT: This wont help you with your question, I just realised that -
Just a word of warning, if you want to use FOG, turn OFF UEFI and Secure Boot (if you have it), FOG does not work 100% properly with UEFI on. FOG also allows you to set datastores like ESXi etc

[MDM] Profile Manager vs Cloud Solution
SovietRussia replied to SovietRussia's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Not really sure of the reason, it goes above me. Meraki is a serious piece of kit though, I love its ease of use and ability to VPP, If Profile Manager does not wake up and start to do what I want it to do (Actually working might be good), then Meraki is the way we will most likely be going. -
[MDM] Profile Manager vs Cloud Solution
SovietRussia replied to SovietRussia's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Already have done, i've been to a few webinars and such about SM and iOS Deployment. But were looking for a on-premises solution. -
FOG is very good, free and open source.
