What was the problem with the SG300's? We have had 5 from 52 port poe,28,24 and 10 port all working perfectly for 2 years now.

Cheap and nasty wacom lookalike graphic tablet and pen. Went back to my mouse after about 10 minutes...

If you're using spiceworks there is a neat add to shutdown computers. I know it works as I had a call from a teacher asking why her PC kept shutting down at 6 pm. I was impressed that she was still there at that time!

Our new site manager has knocked 10% off our electricity bill by..walking round every evening and turning everything off at the wall! This did include the laptop trolleys at first so they weren't charged up but he has worked with us on what actually needs to be on. Another quick win. New server was specified with 2x std. CPU's. Instead we opted for 1 higher spec but lower power - thats about £80 every year saved and our server dungeon is much cooler so we have turned off the extract fan.

Oh .....

It has a plug on it so we must know how to fix it...... Actually audio yes, but lighting is a bit of a mystery with all the talk of gobos and gels. We are just getting quotes to update it all #lotsofmoney

Hi all, long time lurker and occasional poster, this is my first actual post. I've been asked to setup a networked birdbox camera but it will need to be located about 30m away from the nearest building so has to be self powered and wireless. Power is easy, I'll swap out the UPS batteries early and use those with a spare 30w solar panel and charge controller on a post (I've done some work on solar PV installations). It doesn't matter if the power to the camera shuts off occasionally due to dull weather, and in any case birds nest in the spring/summer. I'm trying to find a close focus IP camera with IR that will fit inside the birdbox, ideally with a detachable aerial so I can mount a nice directional aerial to pickup the wifi in the nearest building. The signal looks ok, but I'm aware I may need to use a bridge if it's not reliable. What I'm struggling with is trying to find a camera that does this. There are some fairly poor "wireless" systems (not 802.11n) which in any case only output to composite video from the receiver end. Onvif compatible would be good so we can record to our NAS box. I've even thought of a raspberry Pi with camera but don't know how successful that would be in the cold and damp. I'd prefer something fit and forget. Any bright ideas?

RM have managed to do that with CC4 and its very useful. We've trained most people to look for the connected text before thay try to login. Not sure how RM have done it -project for a rainy day?

Find an old switch, take it apart and use/hack the case=free shelf!

Not seen any problems with our 269 or the 453. Had a weird problem with a 219pii 3 years ago which randomly rebooted due to a UPS incompatibility - fixed with a firmware upgrade. Otherwise all the 6 qnaps I support are rock solid (tempting fate?)

What would jesus use - PC or mac?

We have some old intel based fujitsu PC's with this problem. Turned out to be a setting in the LAN in windows. I didnt believe it at first until I saw it with my own eyes. I think it was to do with power but cant remember exactly.

Have you tried by IP address as well as hostname?

Could there be a cmos battery inside somewhere? If not presumably a NVRAM chip that is dodgy. Unfortunately unless it's only got a few pins could be tricky to replace - surface mount soldering is not for the faint hearted. You could end up with no telly instead of a forgetful one.

+1 for Yuasa although APC seem to use average spec. Batteries themselves. I've seen ups where we had to bend the frame to get them out!

Qnap.219pii is great for SOHO. 269 for higher performance and the mighty 459 with 4 network ports and VM hosting. I've installed 6 qnaps of various spec over 5 years with no failures or problems (except for HD failures) but then thats what RAID is for. Great feature is RAID drive expansion on the fly.
