Really impressed with Epson. I was recently asked to have a look at a school because they are having some projector problems. The 4 Epson S3 are at least 9 years old! One has got too dim to be usable but the others are just about ok. Had very poor experiences of NEC and Hitachi. I want to like the Casino LED projectors but find they are a bit noisy and the interface not as good as Epson.

The QNAPS also come with a packet of 3.5 and 2.5 HD mounting screws which are countersunk to fit flush in the caddies. If you use ordinary screws you will struggle to get them in and out without graunching the sides(as I found out the hard way)

You may find sydi server handy http://sydiproject.com/ It tries to produce a nice neat document with everything it can find. We run it daily so in case I get deported/abducted/turned into a zombie* there is a good starting point for southhamster V2 to pick up from where I left off. *Some may think this has already happened...

Try this. http://www.davisweather.co.uk/ They sent us a battery foc that the school managed to mislay. You could also ask for help on the cumulus weather forum at sandaysoft. Not too impressed with the quality of the Davis hardware and software, considering the cost.

Don't know if it works with this weather station but cumulus weather software from sandaysoft (donatioware)works with lots of different hardware. Using it at one of my schools with a maplin weather station. Only issues are due to the cheap hardware. There is beta version which works on a raspberry pi too.

Half a DAY. That's truly impressive! One of my schools still has some Dell optiplex 170L which were donated about 3 years ago. Damn things will not die but they are still just about usable with 2gb RAM.

Got 2 servers and 14 laptops for my various schools. Very pleased with the service and no faults so far.

+1 for the proper tester. Now I connect it up with the PSU in situ and test it. Saves taking the damn thing out of the PC if it's not faulty and getting covered in dirt.

Could be exposure to light or a paper manufacturing fault. In any case lack of quality control. I used to work in photography and a few times ruined rolls of paper by opening the back of a printer that I thought was empty! That usually caused a consistent line on one edge, this is more random. In any case their QC is carp. We had to inpect each other's work and redo if no good!

HDMI cable lock?

Lateral thinking. Is it worth trying an SSD in one because that will make the things run quicker and may bring the logon times down to acceptable limits. Made a massive difference to some older dual core laptops we were going to bin.

I've installed 6 Qnap NAS for school, home and 3 small businesses that I support. They have all been 100% reliable - it's the damned hard drives that fail. At least with RAID 1 they are still usable. The firmware gets better and more feature rich with release. Plenty of useful apps including VM support on some models and you can use as a simple PC with kbd, mouse and monitor. Trying not to be a fanboi but my experience is very positive!

Not seen that problem here. We had CC4.5 on a Dell R420 last October and it has been fine. We have Cisco SG300 switches but no VLAN yet.

And the heat.... It was horrible working in an office full of CRTs on hot day. My least favourite job was lugging, unboxing and setting up IT suites of 30 CRT,s. Good riddance!

Sounds silly but is it a manual zoom only but the power zoom option is still in the menu? Dont know that model but we have some short throw Epson's which I think are like that.

Reinstalled my HP laptop yesterday with W7 and downloaded around a gig of updates fine. Been careful to check that I'm not installing the W10 update patch as I'm happy to let others do the beta testing first....

And purely by coincidence, their already miniscule tax bill just happens to go down?

I saw and then had the idea it could be used to indicate if keys for a laptop trolley are missing. The jack sockets could turn a light on remotely to indicate missing keys! Could even fit something in each jack plug (different resistor? ) to indicate which one was out. There are loads of variatios on this such as raspi to take a picture each time a key jackplug is removed. PS You can tell it's summer as I have time to even think of such stuff....
