We have a qnap 264l and found it would not talk to our cisco sg300 switch.a crossover csble did the trick! It may well be that a firmware update would fix it but we didn't have time to investigate further.

A useful tester we've found is made by Paladin Tools - we got ours from CPC 1573 - PALADIN TOOLS - TONE AND PROBE KIT | CPC It combines a standard simple LAN cable tester with a tone generator/probe - brilliant for cable tracing, even down to individual wires within a bundle. The only annoying feature is the on/off switch on the side which gets knocked on and runs the battery down (duh). All the LAN certification tools cost way more than we can afford, but as above, hiring is probably worth investigating.

Vaillant have a good reputation, but our worcester has been very reliable and looks pretty well built. Our boiler service guy likes them.

But its partly about peak load. End of a footie match on tv and 1 million kettles get switched on. Instead of a massive spike, one third less will save cranking up a quick response gas turbine or a hydro plant so keeping things smoother.

If you have children and/or pets, 100 minutes a week seems way too low!

We have exactly the same problem at one of the schools I work at. glorified cupboard as server room = too hot. Although there were 2 vents installed at the top and bottom of the door the hot air just stayed in there. We got a couple of 6" 12v ex-PC PSU fans and stuck them in the top vent blowing out and connected to a spare 12v switch power supply. This has made a real difference and lowered the temp by around 4 degrees C - it's now around 22 on the hottest days. Certainly a lot cheaper, quieter and dryer than aircon. If you can't get holes top and bottom perhaps you could run extractor fan ducting hose down to the floor to blow cooler air in and let the hot air circulate out the top. We also stuck a c/heating thermostat in line to turn the fans off if the temp gets above 54 deg. C which would tend to indicate a fire and not good to be fanning the flames!

+1 that. Not cool to burn the school down! Could be the new Battery is faulty or the connectors are dirty or dodgy. Also a new Battery can take a long time to charge up enough to support a load test. I've seen a few where the old battery has split and caused damage due to corrosion.

Doh. .... You can even restore the configuration too. Fat finger. Small phone.

+1 Unifi. Running in 4 of my schools very well. You can backup and respiratory the configuration in a few seconds on any machine.

Installed 4 epson eb470 ust projectors with our 2 caretakers. Much easier than ceiling mount and as long as you use the supplied template fairly easy to fit. The only problem we found is what to do with the extra long cabling if replacing existing long throw units, but our friend Mr. Trunking is great at hiding it all.

Might be worth resetting the cmos RAM. That has fixed strange problems a few times. That and song bios to system default. Good luck! We have some HP 250 G2 which won't pick up win pe -Thank heavens for CC4 smartclient!

Hi, could it be a permissions issue with the db? Can you log in as librarian and change any other settings? We've moved our Junlib to Win 7 with no problem from XP in several schools. Have you got spare Xp PC you can try it on just to confirm that it's Win 7? Rather than restore the db, you could also just try copying the db folder - I've done that successfully too. I'm assuming the .ini file doesn't have any weird settings in it. there is a fix db utility which I think is on the Junlib install DVD but might be only available on the website for which you need (paid) access.

Broadbandbuyer.co.uk stock them and they are in Milton Keynes. I've used them a few times and been happy. We have used 4gon and found them a bit lacking but got there on the end.

We use the avery website for inventory labels and print onto their extra strong labels L6140. Works well for us and so far no problems with csv merge

Ha. Many of the small rural schools down in Devon are on a BT 2mb leased line copper connection. They are being moved to bonded ADSL which "might" give up to3 mb download. Heaven knows what the upload will be. .... Cloud services will be wonderful won't they.

@witch Do you remember the Point in MK? Watched many a good film there. The old Electra in Newport Pagnell was an amazing venue for a while, they would even have bands - The Damned played there, and they were very loud (as you would expect). I have slight tinnitus in my left ear now, probably from too many gigs... It was worth it :-)

What printer models have you tried? I do find some printers have ugly network habits.

Some of the older versions of 2simple aren't compatible with win 7 - could this be the problem? You can get newer ones from their support people. Are you on cc3 or cc4?

Worth getting a copy of the 17th edition onsite guide as it has a lot of useful info. Useful for planning installs and check ing sparkies work. My pet hate is seeing network cables shoved into trunking and with no separation barrier. Grrr.
