  1. Can anyone suggest the most cost-effective way of providing web filtering for a classroom of just 15 PCs and approximately 20 different users? The teacher would need to be able to blanket filter entire categories but then add and remove exceptions as they crop up. Thank you
  2. Great suggestions, thank you. Yeah, the building owner is providing DHCP, DNS and internet. We can use our usual web filtering and OneDrive OD will work fine. Good point re: Bit Locker. Thank you! I'm just gonna need to move the students away from mapped home drives and over to OneDrive a little sooner than planned.
  3. Thanks - no, no InTune licences...
  4. We're going to have a set of 20 laptops in a remote building a few miles away from our school and need our students to be able to log onto them. The building is providing a wireless network with internet access. Can anyone advise on what they think is the best way for us to be logging on? We have M365 so I think my options are: - Configure a VPN, join the laptops to our domain on-site then take them to the remote location and have users login via the VPN. - Place a DC in the remote location (bleugh!). - Join the laptops to Azure and get students to sign in with their M365 accounts. Are there any other realistic options? If I go for the third option and have students using OneDrive to save their files, are there any pitfalls I need to watch out for? Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  5. I've been handed an external Toshiba disk dive, it's unreadable and Windows asks be if I want to format it as soon as I plug it in but it has a member of staff's wedding photos stored on it. They'd really like them back if possible. I've done a scan with photorec and left it overnight. I've come in this morning and it's recovered about 3GB's worth of data which sounds about right. The trouble is the data is all in one large file, SWF format (with the exception of a handful of txt files). He definitely didn't make his wedding photos into a Flash movie so I'm guessing it's some kind of encrypted file. Does anyone know of a way to extract the contents somehow or are the photos doomed? Thank you.
  6. Thank you folks, I'm going to get myself of those Netgear switches suggested by @The_Techie for now and then run an additional cable over during half term. It is only a tiny building, not much more than a portacabin so that should do the job. Much appreciated.
  7. We have a small new satellite building and the builders only ran one cat6 cable from the PoE switch in the main building cab over to the new building. I'd like a PoE phone and PoE wireless point in there. Does anyone know of any kind of splitter or switch that I can use to achieve this? Unfortunately there are no spare power sockets either. Thanks in anticipation.
  8. I need to use a couple of TP-Link powerline adapters when I go over to France. Does anyone know whether they will still function if I plug them in with UK 3-pin to EU 2-pin adapters? I didn't know whether the adapters would stop the data passing through somehow. Thank you.
  9. Brilliant! Thank you. That has worked like a dream. I had never noticed the options changed when you highlighted one of the groups and clicked on the pencil before. Thanks a lot. It's definitely broadcasting 2.4g only one one particular WLAN now. I still can't get one of the CCTV cameras to connect, but that looks like a separate issue since other devices are connecting. Thank you for your help.
  10. Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried creating separate groups but there doesn't seem to be a way of limiting a group to 2.4G or 5G. I can add or remove WLANs from a group, but there doesn't seem to be anything else I can configure beyond those memberships, the group name and description.
  11. We have a Ruckus Virtual Smartzone - Essentials. I'd like to create a wireless network that accepts 2.4G clients only. Is there a way to limit a new wireless network in this way? I can see the option to disable all the 5G channels within Access Points > Select Zone > Configure group, but I don't want to disable 5G across all my APs, I want to disable it for all clients connecting to a particular WLAN. The problem I have is some devices require a connection to a 2.4G network, they don't work on 5G. I've create a WLAN for them but they still won't connect. I suspect it's because they're trying to connect via 5G. I just can't see a way of turning that off or forcing them to connect to 2.4G. Thanks in advance.
  12. I have a SharePoint document library with an Excel file set as the template for this library. When people create a new form it gets saved with the default filename of Book.xlsx. Subsequent files are then named book1, book2, etc.. Is there a way I can use Power Automate to get the filename and modify it? Maybe 5 minutes after the file is created would work well. Ideally it would get the filename from a cell within the Excel file is possible. If that can't be done, can it just be named after the person who created it? Has anyone else accomplished something like this? Thank you.
  13. We have an old PC which I've put vortexbox on to rip my CD collection. We have another old touchscreen PC. I'd like to use the touchscreen as some kind of nice jukebox front-end for the Vortexbox. Does anyone have any suggestions? Something that will display album art, let you swipe through the music and tap the one you want to play. That kind of thing. I think you used to be able to download a version of Subsonic for the Pi that did something like this before it went paid and online. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  14. I have a room booking system set up on SharePoint and we have lists for each room. Staff can add items to these lists, view each others and delete their own. I have one list that was set up exactly the same way as all the others, but for this particular list, people (including myself as site admin) can only delete items from the AllItems.aspx view. When we view it using calendar.aspx there is no delete button for any items on the list. When we hover our mouse over days in the calendar, the little 'Add' link doesn't appear either. Opening the same list and altering the url ending to AllItems.aspx rather than calendar.aspx DOES allow deletions. The calendar view works as expected for all other lists in the same site. The permissions seem different for each view, is that even possible? This is SharePoint online and we haven't done any tweaking of permission levels at all. The list doesn't have versioning or retention policies. Has anyone else come across this?
  15. I'm new to PowerApps, i've just started playing with it over the last couple of days. I've made an app from a SharePoint list. The idea of the app is to enable users to add items to the list, but with a more friendly user interface with fields spread across multiple screens. I've created the app, the screens and added everything to it. I'd now like to have one final submit button on the last screen which will send all the info captured from the previous screens to the SharePoint list (all added to the same record). I've been battling with the patch command to do this. This is what I have on my submit button, can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? My data source is called "Trip Request". My screens are called Trip details, Staff, Students, Costs, CostsContinued, Funding and Authorisation Thank you. Patch(Trip Request),Defaults(Trip Request),Trip Details.Updates,Staff.Updates,Students.Updates,Costs.Updates,CostsContinued.Updates,Funding.Updates,Authorisation.Updates);Navigate(Success, ScreenTransition.None)
  16. I've recently taken on a site with a Unifi wireless network but it is in a remote location so i cannot actually see any of it, just the controller interface. There is an area which has poor wireless coverage at the moment so I'd like to add an additional AP. It currently has UAP-AC-Lites throughout, can I add another and uplink it via wireless to an existing UAP-AC-Lite? Or would that model of AP require a wired uplink? The site also has a couple of UAP-AC-Ms, what would be the benefit of those over a UAP-AC-Lite? Please forgive the basic beginner questions! Thank you.
  17. Brilliant! Great advice, thank you very much.
  18. Hi, We're taking on the management of an exisiting Unifi wireless set up. This is all new to me so I'm just looking for a bit of advice please. I have exports of the current setups (2 different sites). Am I correct in thinking we just need to restore those exports to a new controller, then point the wireless access points at the new inform URL instead? Both sites are miles away so I can't physically get at the APs. If that's correct, can anyone recommend some kind of cloud hosting for the controller? I don't have a spare server or a static IP available for use at the moment. Will I need 2 controllers, one for each site export? Thanks very much.
  19. Fantastic, thank you very much for the info, hugely appreciated. I'll check support info and be in touch.
  20. I have recently inherited a school network with a Ruckus Virtual Smartzone Essentials (3.5.0.0.832) and 21 Ruckus ZoneFlex r510 APs. In the past I have used HP or Meru for wifi, and always separate hardware controllers so this is new to me. Does anyone have any experience with the Virtual Smartzone, especially the Essentials version? Any pros or cons over a hardware controller? Are those APs old and in need of updating soon? It all seems to be running nice and smoothly and I've created a separate guest wifi network with no issues, just wanted peace of mind though. Thank you.
  21. Having done some reading, I've created the guardinarelationship.csv file with just one student in there and their guardian's email address. Within SDS, I can't see a way of uploading this CSV alone, It asks for all 8 CSV files. Since we already have Teams set up with classes, students and teachers manually, I have never created CSVs for all those as there was no need. How can I just append the guardians to my existing students? I though about maybe uploading the other 7 CSVs with just headings and no data in them, but chickened out in case it removed all my teams and members! Can anyone suggest the best way of appending guardians to existing students please?
  22. We currently have all of our students, teachers and classes set up in Teams. I'm interested in the weekly digest parent/guardian email. I'd like to test it with one student first, before I start figuring out how to import all of the parents. Is it possible just to add one parent account and link it to a student to test, so we can see how it looks and what info you get? I can't see any option for setting up parent accounts/email addresses manually.
  23. Does anyone use or have experience of a product called Kinteract? If so, is it any good? What does it do well/badly? If we already have Office 365, do we need it? One of our teachers has had a demo from a sales guy and is keen to get it in school. I'm checking it out myself as Network Admin, but wondered whether anyone else can advise. Thanks
  24. just noticed I have an Alarm under Events & Alarms which states: "Insufficient [CAPACITY-AP ] licenses have been detected, which will cause existing AP connections to terminate." Would moving the host have messed up the licence?
  25. Our wireless network went down last week. It's a Ruckus wifi network managed from a Ruckus Virtual Smartzone. All SSIDs stopped being broadcast, so devices could simply not see any networks being broadcast. When logging in to the management web page on the virtual smartzone, I can still see all the APs, but if I select one from the list and go into its configuration tab, under the 'Radio specific configuration', the 'WLAN Service' has changed from Enabled to Disabled under both 5GHz and 2.4GHz. This has changed on every single AP. On the General tab, the connection status has also changed from 'Connect' to 'Discover'. To get things back up and running I restored the configuration from a previous backup, let that roll back and all the APs began broadcasting again and everything worked as normal and clients were able to connect. Within an hour though, the APs had all gone change their radio to being disabled again. I went through the restore procedure again and got the same results. Within the Events & Alarms section, under Events I could see each AP has two events, one saying "updating AP configuration", followed by "AP heartbeat lost". I haven't changed anything in the configuration recently and can see nothing obviously wrong. All that has changed recently is that the VM running the smartzone has move to a new hyper-v host, but that happened a week before we began getting this issues so i'm not sure it's related. Has anyone come across this before, or got any ideas what could be causing it? Thank you.
