Looking at the post again what you need is a port replicator. I was looking into these for classrooms, eliminating all AV cables from the user.

"DirectAccess" is basically a gpo controlled automatic VPN that works with server 2012+ and windows 8.1 and 10. No user intervention needed, pretty easy to setup.

I can't recommend a brand but the last hall projector I purchased 5 years ago has 3 amazing features that no other projector has (or needs) 1. is a fully motorized lens, it can pan in all four directions (meaning you don't need scaffold should the image shift a little) 2. is has a filter cartridge (it's like a toilet roll, it even auto advances, so again no scaffold) 3. a shutter, yes a mechanical shutter so a speaker can stop the light without being dazzled or having to wait for shutdown then start-up.

With the proxy pac I assume you've done the other ground work like making a wpad entry in DNS pointing to your server hosting a wpad.dat file. Also just let ie and other browsers use automatic settings. if your VPN tunnels the (internet) DNS requests then the dat you've made is correct. I see that with my 1803 update no only did RSAT disappear again (even though its not supposed to) but its installed Windows Mail again! This is getting in the way of outlook 2013 and now you can no longer uninstall Windows Mail. I've terminated the Process turned off all its features yet it still pops up when I click an email link... Dear good Greif was it so intellectually a leap of imagination that if ANY version of outlook was installed the user probably does NOT want Windows Mail enabled. FFS! Oh does anyone know how to actually stop it from opening mail links FROM WITHIN OUTLOOK. ARGH!

ok, I'd installed the international English copy of windows 10 education 1803 using the media creation tool. This installed Windows with a generic key NOT a KMS key. I've never run into this issue before, can I place a KMS key on this image (syprep etc.) and when deployed will it still have a KMS key or revert?

Yes, I'd rethink your schema to go by enrolment year, if a pupil joins late then you add them to the year they would have started. You're just inviting unnecessary housekeeping and opportunities to make annoying mistakes.

I'd say then that both the new drive and the old drive are indeed mSATA but the new drive is faulty. How disappointing and a waste of time, (old standards can suck) As you purchased the drive from Amazon you should be able to exchange it. I hope the till doesn't have any annoying bios lockout or tpm encryption on the hardware...

yes, make sure there are no shorts. a loose screw in the PC, shorted mangled usb ports and broken peripherals. (I've had cables torn out of mice and keyboards then stuffed back in so they look ok)

Yes, to be clear the original drive (left) isn't mSATA it's an mPCIe SSD. Physically identical to mSATA but electrically different. EDIT: you can't use the adaptor to read the old drive nor can you use the new msata drive in the till.

I do have UAC on, default software restrictions (so none for teachers) and no AppLocker. To be clear I'm not unhappy with this, as it allows some useful programs to be installed that don't seem to have a negative affect on the laptop. (programs that allow web meetings, or a 3d slicer) At least not in the last few years. I was just wondering if this control model has a name or settings. I also allow users to install APPs from the M$ store but it's so barren it's not an issue. EDIT: Also the curric PCs for pupils are locked down. software restrictions defaults to disabled and in win 10 I use applocker for the first time. This scenario is purely for Teachers personal laptops.

I've seen it for a while but my teachers are standard (non-admin) users. They usually can't install a program BUT sometimes they can? I find that some programs can install with no admin access required. Can someone tell me what this is called and how it works. The latest was a 3d splicer from Stratasys the teacher downloaded it, ran the installer and bam it was in.. I wasn't needed. I assume it was not altering system files.

@gmonks This worked great! if you click on Cortana it just does a straight search, no options to turn on audio, etc.

eh, I did as suggested. Now when a user logs in, no keyboard or language choices are presented in lower right but a localization pack is trying to install in the menu?

I'm using the American English version of windows 10 education 1803 (as it's the only one available) I need to set the default keyboard and language to uk. How I do that GPO wise? I can't see an 1803 international English yet..
