What if you try the opendns DNS servers just to check the internet. Primary = 208.67.222.222 Secondary = 208.67.220.220 But yes...it does sound a bit suspect. How secure's your admin pass?

Are the EMBC pinging the WAN side IP Address (IE there side...maybe on a WIC card?) or the internal ethernet port? Also...if the DHCP has gone t*ts up what default gateway is being asigned?...and that's only if machines are picking up a lease from the server. Have you tried plugging a laptop directly into these machines via a crossover cable to see if you can get any connectivity using a statically set IP on the laptop? The dhcp and dns issues....could they be update issues? If you have a linux machine available try nmap to see what services are running. I dont know if that helps or not but they are a few things i'd try.

First off apologies...because this isn't going to be worded too well. Now...... Does anyone know of a quick and cheap way to implement reverse proxying for SSH servers? For example....with apache you can build it with proxy modules so that you can have multiple web servers on port 80 in effect (or so it appears to the end user). So you have setup a name based vhost to forward requests for cname.domain.tld to another server that isnt directly published to the web. So if i've got several ssh servers internally that i'd like to be accessable to the web all on port 22, is there something that i can do like the name based vhosts and proxying for apache to set this up with openSSH server? I was thinking something like m0n0wall or pfsense but i dont know if they support this and i couldnt find anything saying that they do. And oh yh...i dont have ISA

Netsupport based something or other i think we had. Dameware is built on VNC and uses far more processor on each of the machines it has the client running on than VNC does (or so I was told by an analyst)......

I don't have a TV license when i'm at uni so i don't watch TV let alone sport. And that's kind of continued on once i got home for the summer. I used to watch the skiing on channel 4 from time to time but that's about it. Now if they had something like the "speed-lan-patching" event then maybe that'd be worth a look in.

Sorry but EWWWWW && EWWWWWWWW. Mac are too overpriced for a desktop machine. If you've got that much money to throw at the cause get a decent desktop PC that can be easily upgraded, chopped and changed imho...but, it's personal preference...do what you will. As for Vista....oh dear oh dear. It's not really worth loosing all that memory for a buggy OS is it? If you want a mac have a look on ebay....there's always ones on there.

FlexLM is horrid. The music software that User3204 was on about sounds an aweful lot like sibelius. At the time we had it the music department had a few standalone machines that they were responsible for (they bought them themselves) so they dealt with the licences over the phone themselves. Audacity isnt a viable substitute for it imo because it doesnt do the same stuff with midi and notation. But you probably werent talking about sibelius...it just sounds a lot like it. Could it have been cubase maybe?

I know someone that's run a reverse proxy from apache so that their exchange installation was available to the web via apache. So you still have it running on IIS but then you setup apache with the reverse proxy so that there's a vhost of exchange.domain.tld/exchange is pointing to the IIS installation that is running on a different port of the same server or something like that. Just an idea.

But if I find something that might be worth reviewing or a technology I come into contact with through uni I could always e-mail in a piece.

I'd be glad to NOT see the linksys brand dropped. It makes me and my mates look that little bit geekier if we've got Cisco kit running our networks. lol If they dropped the linksys branding and you say to someone "oh yh i've got cisco routers" meaning 2600 series and then they go "so have i!" but what they mean is some WRT54G box then it makes you look less cool!! LOL

Ohhh get him to do a bit of C...start him off with a bubble sort and get him to look at fopen fprintf and fclose... That should keep him busy for a week or so...plenty of googling required. Alternatively...get him a shell server setup and let him have a play about with that
