Is there not some way you can e-mail the PBX and get it to automatically call a number? There could be some web based system where staff have to authenticate and press a button and then a message pops up on the admin staff PCs stealing focus and flashing or something? Just ideas and i have no idea how to implement them.

When we closed the old ICT suites that our school started out with and moved over to the new eLearning centre, i know of two people (students) that went round writing down all the codes on the RM machines. I've been told that none of the keys worked anyway (i think they must have been using corporate or home or something that the keys dont work on). As for ironing...there's no such word. There's only TONNES of softner.

Basically what everyone's said already. I never went to a college, I stayed in the VI Form at my school, but it /should/ be a bit more mature. VI Form at my school involved a lot of food being thrown around the common room, people wedging toilet rolls down the toilets and flushing them and flooding the common room and mostly getting into trouble. I of course was busy upstairs in the ICT Services office *polishes halo.* What are you going to study?

Coasters...that's all they're good for besides ghosting/RISing. The drives are just somewhere else for some horrid oik to jam a ham sandwich IMO.

I've been off uni since the end of may and go back at the start of september. No job...little money left after i bought a dell poweredge server and a cisco switch and some other crap i dont /really/ need. Ahhh the life of a student (NOT!)

IPSEC looked as if it was going to take longer to implement. But I'm not using it in a production environment, it was just for testing and teaching myself at the time (also gaining SSH to a remote server from the uni halls because they blocked the protocol for a rediculous reason.) Now you've linked me to that site...i'm going to have to change LOL *Adds to list of things to try*

Surely if Serco can manage a functional web-based sytem (ePortal) then Capita could do it. There's no reason not to IMO...just laziness and unwillingness to invest. What they have there are excuses not reasons. I moved away to uni before i could witness the implementation of ePortal into the curriculum for much more than VI Form registration. From what i can gather it's being used for lots of things from registration in lessons to behavioural management and daily notices etc. I think it was taken quite well by the staff from what i can gather but it does help having it in a web-based form as opposed to software so that when staff go home then they can update the daily notices and marks etc etc.

Most likely the first...i'll fetch the Electro Shock kit! It would be interesting to see schools that are rolling out maintain some kind of wiki with problems they've found as they go along like incompatable software and then what steps they've done to fix or work around them. It would also help them keep track of the roll out I suppose...but yeah...people are too busy. -
You /could/ have a gui on a server...there's nothing to say that you need to have it started though. Just start it if you absolutely need it for daft software that doesnt have a lovely terminal based config/setup etc with ncurses. I agree though. GUI on a server is best avoided imo. It /does/ look interesting but what is the advantage over an existing PPTP VPN? The browser based access? Does it support altering network routes so that the end-user can configure it so that various IP ranges or subnets can be sent down the VPN like you can do with pptpconfig for example?

They should have gone whole hog and gotten the guy that does the home voice to sit with a PA system and say things to passers by

I agree though, it's a bit insensitive. I've got a mate who's pagan (don't know whether a practising pagan anymore or not) but it does seem a bit mean. Someone somewhere must have thought it was a good idea at the time.

Yeah...sorry...it just made me laugh. Prying...bothering...god bothering. There was logic somewhere in there.
-
"It’s not that different from prying to god. Do you also laugh at people who pry?" Prying to god....i get angry with people that pry. God probably doesnt like people prying in his business. PrAying however....somewhat different.........

It's so pretty. LOL. The only thing i dont like about it is the cable boots...they would REALLY do my head in. I personally hate them and have a habit of cutting them off cables becuase they dont make it easy to patch/unpatch in tight spaces.

Could be messy....... Just hide the mess in the stack of invoices going to the bursar's office

DT Department's choice...nothing to do with me lol. I had nothign to do with software purchasing anyway....*student tech* I think they had the machine to go with it or something like that anyway.

SpeedStep II. Horrid piece of software for CNC embroidary. It never liked to behave properly and required one of those rediculous license dongle things being plugged into the appropriate machine via RS232 serial port...and it was a bugger to get working in a stable state from the server.

Oh yh lol. Cable loom not got any room to move? Sometimes they've got space so that they can be taken back down to the bottom of the cab...unless the cables come in at the top then you're stuffed LOL.
-
Cant you just move the switch up to the top?

The PDC and BDC architechture was phased out at the introduction of Server 2000. Now it's Forest, tree, domain or something like that. I forget how it goes exactly...i've not had anything to do with large scale windows networks since being at uni. I've only got my tiny 4 server setup at home.
