When I first started working in EDU, a bus a few minutes from my house went pretty close to all my sites. Now it would be an infrequent bus or 30 minute walk to town, bus to the city centre and a bus back out. The train station is 20 minutes walk, but only one school is near a station. As I could be covering more than one site on any given day and have a heavy bag, public transport is currently only an "emergency fallback". Unfortunately, few people live close to their place of work these days. I'd love to have a job at a school within walking distance! In an ideal world, we could have a fleet of self-driving cars on the road that we could just book to come and collect us/drop us off. Even when the tech is ready, it would never happen as too many powerful companies would lose their revenue streams.

Yes (pretty much). It turned out that Apple must have added some new addresses that needed whitelisting. By default, these got shoved into "Streaming Services", which only certain users have access to, by our filter. We only found this out when our MDM lost its ability to install apps! Filter now rejigged. Until next time Apple make changes...

Yep, I was well impressed. S2 looks unlikely, though it hasn't been broadcast in many territories so there is a slight chance that if sales pick up they might consider it. I only heard of it as it was advertised during some slushy movie Mme LeMarchand was watching whilst ironing so publicity hasn't been great.

I enjoyed it, though the multiple endings went a bit "LotR" and Ed Speleers' wasn't the greatest cast addition. Why did he sound British, btw? Accents aren't genetic. Also the "original" Picard cast got short-changed and, though I didn't think that the holding hands in S2 meant Seven and Raffi were lovers, as they confirmed that they should have shown it more (not like that!). I don't think they need to do ST:TGG (The Geriatric Generation) though. They should resurrect Captain Shaw and have him leading a crew with guest appearances from the older crew. I did have many more thoughts, but it was so long ago that I've forgotten most of them .

One of my services had Season 2 of "The Lazarus Project" starting yesterday, which I did think was odd as there's been no fanfare. Seems like someone at TVDb confused it with the start of S1 in the US.

Took a few walks near my house over 1/2 Term. A similar road setup on one road, but everyone stayed on "their" side. Admittedly it's not as busy and it may be that the humps aren't as high and don't have such a large gap in the centre of the road. Anyway, back to the original question: I've been trialling a new car launcher and using Waze as the satnav. It may be crowdsourced and possibly inaccurate data, but it does state 50mph through the roadworks. There is also a lane closure just after the signs, which means going into Lane 2 is fun: Too early and it's tailgate city as you're doing the limit, but too late and good luck that someone will let you in!

Was having a bit of a reading slump, having got stuck on Pamela Dean's The Secret Country, which sounded like it was going to be "teen Narnia", but I found the characters unengaging - might go back to it at some stage. Anyway, got over the slump with Shimaura by Leslie Charles (the nom de plume of a member here). An average guy starts seeing strange things after a car accident. Kept me entertained, as things kept getting worse and more complicated for the protagonist. It reminded me a bit of early James Herbert but without the extreme sex/gore. The cover doesn't really sell it, though! Next up were the latest two Philip Reeve books. Utterly Dark and the Heart of the Wild (older kids/younger teenagers) has Utterly going to the mainland with her uncle where it seems that old magic is stirring. A fun read. Adventure Mice: Otter Chaos is for young 'uns and is basically Thunderbirds with mice; there's even a diagram of "Mousey Island". I wonder if this is one he and co-author Sarah McIntyre are hoping will be picked up for TV as I can see some great merchandising opportunities. Another fun one.

I've still got Seasons 3 and 4 to watch. Given that I was finding most of the characters annoying, would you say it's worth carrying on?

Apparently there were lots of reshoots/re-edits/rewrites etc. I felt there were way too many ridiculous plot twists (I suspect they're not done with that angle) and find it hard to see that it was worth a reported $300 million. Still, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is lovely. I do like the general concept of the show and the idea that there can be worldwide spin-offs but, given the still-unresolved state of the agency in "Citadel Prime" and the way that show flits about in time, I foresee continuity problems. Also, Italy is a bit "safe". I would have loved to see "Citadel: India" (which has been mentioned). Given RRR's Oscar win, they could even go full Bollywood on it.

Yesterday I lived my life a quarter mile at a time, Fast Ten'd my seatbelt, and drove Fast and Furious, changing gear every second or two, to the cinema for Fast X. If you're a fan of the series, well worth a look (especially if you've managed to avoid spoilers), particularly for Jason Momoa's OTT villain. If you're not a fan, this one won't change your mind. If you do go, there is a mid-credits scene that sets up the next movie. Also watched Dzien Matki (Mother's Day) on Netflix. Trailer a bit NSFW due to violence. It's basically Taken in Poland with a female lead kicking a lot more than Liam Neeson could manage. Not a bad actioner, but not a classic/must see. A US remake wouldn't surprise me; I can see Mia Kirshner and Paul Giamatti as the leads.

Finished Season 2 of Schmigadoon! on Apple TV+. A lot of fun, but perhaps not quite as enjoyable as the first season. I suspect that it's because, probably due to Bank Holiday TV showings - I'm not that ls!, the older musicals covered in the first season were more familiar to me. Worth a watch if you have a passing knowledge of musicals and takes the bronze in the "TV Musical Shows" awards behind "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and the sublime "Galavant". Also finished the first and probably only season of The Swarm (showing on Sky Sci-Fi). As mentioned above, strange things are happening in the sea and scientists across Europe and beyond are trying to find out what is going on. One of the very few recent shows that I have felt should have had more episodes - I quite often see trailers for things that i think, "I'd watch it if it was a 2-hour movie, but I'm not going to waste 8 to 10 hours on it, especially as it's probably designed to be ongoing". Anyway, I felt that this could have done with another episode or two before the final one, which started with so much exposition that I thought I'd missed an episode, and I would have liked to see more of that "investigation/communication" phase as well as an episode or two of "epilogue". The show is well worth a look, and does have an "end", but one suspects that they were really hoping for a second season - I'm not sure where it would have gone, though. From what I can tell. it's quite close to the original novel until the end, where the novel gets more "action-ey", and the novel covers the aftermath in a concluding chapter.

Just remember to cancel at least a day before the end of the trial. "Foundation" is also worth a look. Also, if don't mind and have some sort of a passing knowledge of musicals, "Schmigadoon!".

This could have been a fun superspies vs supervillains show, but got bogged down by way too many OTT twists. I'm struggling to see how the spinoffs will work as it wouldn't make sense if they are set in the present, but would make plotting very difficult if set in the past or future. Another "big budget" (for German TV) one, The Swarm (on Sky) is far better so far. Strange things are happening in the see and scientists across Europe and beyond are trying to find out what is going on.

The Portable Door (Sky Movies) Paul, a hapless young Londoner, somehow gets an internship at a prestigious firm. He's not actually sure what the firm does, or what his role is though. It soon becomes clear that magic is involved... Based on the Tom Holt book (have to confess, I've never read any of his) this is an OK comedy fantasy, but never really sparked to life for me. Still, Patrick Gibson is much better cast as a befuddled and awkward young man than the confident pirate/prince he doesn't do a good job of in "Shadow & Bone".
