The location of the encoder is an HKCU registry entry. I have the start menu entry run a batch file which writes the registry entry then starts Audacity. It could also be done in the logon script or by a custom ADM and GPO. Sorry I don't remember the key, it shouldn't take much finding.

I would agree and if that staff member looses some documents that were not backed up then perhaps (just perhaps!!) they will learn to be more careful in the future.

Strangely we have had little problem with OxBox. It installed properly according to the instruction, which as you know is a novelty with education software. I have seen problems when the path to the install was set to be the same as the path to the database. If you install it on the server using the path to the install being c:\program files\... you then get asked for the path to the database, this should then be to a share that all users can see and need not be c:\program files\.... The bit I did not like was the need to go to each workstation to install the client. I did discover a method of installing via GPO. What follows are as lifted from my installation instructions so will need tweaking for you. "Copy CD1 to d:\apps_sdp\clic! Remove content directory (saving 650MB) ** Copy FuseCore.config from a manual standalone installation into d:\apps_sdp\clic!\OxBox\Clic! - fa9\ Configured GPO 'Install Clic' to install via the distriubution share to install oxbox.msi. Only change to FuseCore.config is . becomes p:\oxbox\ Where p:\oxbox is the clients path to the installed database" ** I seem to remember for the other OxBox products we use that I did not copy the fusecore.config file from a workstation but simply edited the path in the distribution directory. I have also edited the MSI to stop it from adding start menu and desktop shortcuts.

I've just done the very same thing with a similar script. I discovered that sysprep is not removing the SusClientId registry entry so have no plans on removing the script from group policy. Because unless I remove the registry entry before sysprep then I am going have the problem keep coming back.

At a previous school we used OpenLDAP for authentication and Samba for file serving. For configuration we used ntconfig.pol with a number of custom ADM files to add extra functionality. The only Microsoft servers we had were for the MSSQL server for CMIS & IIS for ePortal.

Hi, Has anyone managed to get this s/w to work on an Intel OSX 10.5 Mac? I have been asked to get Embedding Formative Assessment professional development packs 1 & 2 working on our Macs. When I run EFA Toolkit v1 from the EFA_Toolkit_mac directory then I get a front page from which I can navigate in to the various sections. Within each of these sections I am give a list of documents to read, clicking on these documents is supposed to open up another file. When clicking or double clicking on these links nothing happens. On further investigation I noticed there is a directory called fscommand which contains all the documents and also a small application which has the same name but postfixed with .open.app (eg TLC2_1_1.pdf & TLC2_1_1.open.app). I am able to open the .pdf files by clicking on the directly however if I click on the .open.app I receive an error, "You can't open the application "TLC2_1_1.pdf.open" because the Classic environment is no longer supported". In the Windows version of the s/w the files are TLC2_1_1.pdf & TLC2_1_1.pdf.exe, where the .exe file opens up the PDF. My research indicates that the classic environment is not supported on Intel Macs and on OS 10.5+. I have tried it on 10.5 PowerPC and Intel with same error. This has been reported to the supplier who says it works fine on their Mac running Snow Leopard (10.6) so it must be a problem on my machines. I then performed a clean install of OSX, Adobe Reader and Flash as per their instructions. I still receive the error. Any thoughts on how to get it working properly. I know I can point the staff at the individual PDFs but that is a bit of a pain (I don't need hassle from the staff).

I had similar problems some time ago and found the problem was caused by two problems in the GPO settings. 1. Previous technicians had set the redirect target location being set to w:\, our usual home drive, but it is not mapped at the stage the redirect takes place. Once I set it to 'Redirect to the user's home directory' I saw more success, but there were still problems. 2. In settings tab the "Move the contents of My Documents to the new location" was turned on and problems were being caused by permissions of the workstations my documents. Once this was turned off the redirect started working.

Try properties of "Local Area Connection" and click "Configure..." for the controller. On the advanced tab see if there wake on LAN settings here that are disabled. On my machine here I have "Wake on Magic packet", "Wake on pattern" and "WakeOnLAN from PowerOff".

Built into PARS is a fire module which caches the attendance data every couple of minutes. That way when it looses the network connection you have attendance data to that point. We have dedicated several laptops for this purpose and they are picked up by a member of the office staff as soon as the firebell sounds. If you want to try it out create a shortcut to C:\Program Files\SIMS\PARS .net\bootstrap.exe" PARS /F We also have a collection of golf umbrellas next to the laptops and these are taken regardless of the weather. If it's raining then the need is obvious but you need them when it is sunny just so you can see the screen.

If you are using a shared start menu then you can modify all the shortcuts and add -nofirststartwizard to them, that way you will catch which ever application a user uses first. This would work if you have already rolled out OpenOffice to all your desktops and don't want to hit each machine again.

I have one user who once she has typed in a list of username into the To: field of Outlook finds that some (but not all) are expanded to include some details from active directory. For example: Mr J Bloggs ; I have changed the details for privacy purposes. Does anyone have any ideas what causes this and how to fix it.

UltraVNC will do this for you and as has been said is free. A twist on installing UltraVNC on the client computers is to configure SingleClick. You install VNC Viewer on your machine and run it in listen mode the client (your parents) run the SingleClick application that you provide for them.

I am trying to add a Regular expression URLs to a custom filter in order to unblock some sites. The URLs alway contain :1935/open. I have added (:1935/open) to the regular expression filter but it does allow the page through. I then escaped the / with \ to give (:1935\/open) but I receive "Error - You have an invalid entry in the 'Regular expression URLs' field. The problem is on line 4" How to I get SmoothWall to allow URLs with ":1935/open" through?

It sounds like you have a similar setup to mine. I don't remember the exact errors or terminology as it was about 3 weeks ago. On the ISA server I noticed several alerts saying something along the lines of the connection limit has been exceeded. In my set up each connection to the server was limited to a reasonable number assuming only one user on each IP address, which was the case when we used ISA as the proxy server. The SmoothWall server was trying to make significantly more connections as it was the proxy for hundreds of users. Unfortunately I don't remember where I changed the limit, but as soon as I changed it to unlimited for the SmoothWall server our problems vanished. I used the help file to tell me where to make the change in rates. Deployment Recommendations for Connection Limits in ISA Server 2004 may also be helpful.

I am trying to track down an new version of the bluetooth drivers for a 13.3" Macbook. I recently produced a bootcamp XP image for these MacBooks and discovered that if it is put into standby mode twice say by shutting the lid then on the third attempt it will not standby. I also noticed that the power switch did not trigger a shutdown either and when shutdown from the start menu it did a partial shutdown only leaving a blue screen and mouse pointer. Research showed that it could be bluetooth that causes the problem, this was confirmed by disabling the bluetooth radio in device manager and the bluetooth service then the problem goes away. The suggestion is to use updated widcomm drivers however I cannot seem to find them anywhere now they have been taken over by Broadcom. I would be grateful for any pointers to a suitable download location.

I found this too. With the testing I did I found that if a user logged out correctly then delprof worked. However if the user did not logout say they reset the computer then it did not work when it was eventually run. I am sure that I checked and noticed a list of users in the registry (don't remember the key) and these were the ones deleted. My fix was to have a script which used delprof to delete the profiles it could as well as the registry entries. It then when on to delete all pupil and staff accounts, fortunately this is easy, students always start with 2 digits and staff were always 3 letters. I too run this script as part of the shutdown, that way there is less impact on the users. The shutdown script also runs as SYSTEM so can do just about anything you want. Steve.
