It would probably be worth checking the logs in c:\program files (x86)\Frog\Logs (I think). I had also had a similar problem of the files not getting to Frog when run either manually or from the scheduled task. I discovered that I was getting 504 Gateway timeout errors, I reported this to Frog and have not had a solution yet though they did suggest using a different server address. Something strange is going on with the importer. If I configure the importer to use www.knutsfordhs.cheshire.sch.uk then validate server works but if I use www.knutsford.local or the Frog server IP address then it fails with a 504 Gateway timeout error. Both DNS entries resolve to the Frog server IP address! In our case the 6am scheduled task the uploads more reliably than if manual upload is run during the working day.

Having checked the logs I have indeed managed to get my SIMS Extractor scheduled task running. I do believe that the key to the fix was setting "Run with highest privileges", but for completeness I will list all the settings I have in the task, just in case it was a combination of items. General Tab. Run whether user is logged on or not. Do not store password is left UNset. Run with highest privileges is set. Triggers. Daily @ 6am. Enabled. Action. Start a program. Program / script: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Frog\SIMS Extractor\SIMSExtractor.exe" (with quotes) Arguments: Leave blank. Start in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Frog\SIMS Extractor (without quotes) Conditions. Start the task only if the computer is idle: UNset. Start the task only if the computer is on AC: Set. Stop if the computer switches to battery: Set. Wake the computer: UNset. Start only if the following network connection is available: UNset. Settings. Allow task to be run on demand: Set Run ask as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed: UNset. If the task fails: UNset Stop the task if it runs longer than 1hr: Set. If the running task does not end: Set. If the task is not scheduled to run again: UNset If the task is already running: Do not start a new instance. I hope that helps. Now I have resolved that problem I am off to prod Frog about the numerous other bugs I have found. I wonder if they have fixed the issue I reported to them in January 2011 (no not a typo) and still not resolved.

I may have just fixed the problem. I will confirm this tomorrow I hope. At the request of Frog I changed the command to "c:\program files (x86)\Frog\SIMS Extractor\SIMSExtractor.exe" with no parameters. This did not work. In a "I wonder what will happen" moment I did make a changed which seems to be working. In the general tab of the task I have ticked "Run with highest privileges" and re-run the task manually. This time the last run result is showing as 0x41301 which is apparently a code for the task is running. Looking in task manager I see the "SIMS Extractor" task running.

We have a similar problem with some HP DC7800's, we managed to source some covers and are starting to glue them in with pipe weld glue (designed to glue ABS plastic). Hopefully these will be a little more robust.

Not yet, I have been having problems with this. Frogs idea was the same as AliG's but that did not work for me. Support tried to remote in but their software did not work, apparently they have a lot of problems with schools and remote access! I really must get back onto them and see if there is another way to let them in. If you do find a solution please post back I need to get this working.

I used to have a ZX81 and then a ZX Spectrum at home. These set me on my way to the career I now have. In my first job in a Undergraduate Physics department we used BBC Model B & Archimedes for teaching programming, control and data logging. It was so easy to get them to do all those things. We then started to move to PC's, initially we had a serial link to a Gandalf packet switch. Eventually they installed a 10BASE5 and 10BASE2 Ethernet network. That gave me access to Gopher predating, then I discovered Mosaic and all that the web could bring.

I started our virtualisation project in a slightly unconventional way. I could not get the money to purchase a 2 hosts + SAN system so instead I went for 1 host + SAN with the 2nd host in the following years development bid. I went for a SAN so that I could use VMotion in VMWare to cope with failures in the hardware. It would be possible to do a system on the cheap by running several VM's on a single host's internal storage, but you would loose the ability to migrate them instantly on hardware failure (or maintenance). Once I got the 1 host + SAN up and running I only migrated a couple of servers to it rather than everything. I did this because I did not want to get into the position of having all my critical systems running on one physical server. It did mean that I could upgrade my aging and slow SIMS server this year and then migrate other servers to the virtual environment once I get the 2nd host. I did decide to get an expert in to configure VMWare and the iSCSI SAN even though I cost quite a lot. I thought that even though I could do it I wanted to make sure that the foundation of my systems were solid. The last thing I wanted with a virtual system was to have the physical systems or VMWare to be flaky. I also thought that as we are currently a little understaffed that I could not afford the time out to research and plan the setting up.

We use Print Manager Plus, and find it works just fine for us. There is a PMP Workstation connected printer service available for Windows (not OSX I don't think). There is also a client service which shows the current page count and print balance which is available for Windows and OSX. We have had very few problems, except when we still had some inkjet printers in use, these would often give incorrect page counts (in the 1000's for a 1 page print).

That is exactly the problem I had with my server migration. I ended up writing a script to fix it on all 150 staff laptops and admin machines.

Some of the options that have been mentioned before. psshutdown from SysInternals run from a scheduled task to ensure that machines are turned off at a specific time. I also use the same program from a script which I can run at anytime to turn off or reboot machines. I also have used PowerOff 3.0 from http://users.telenet.be/jbosman/poweroff/poweroff.htm as this also give the ability to schedule a shutdown and have remote access.

I'm no expert in IPv6 but doesn't :1: and :5: translate as :0001: and :0005:, adding leading rather than trailing zeros.

My installer told me about Sanyo pulling out of the projector market. It is a pitty as he used them a lot for larger venues as they had interchangeable lenses. At the moment he is looking at the alternatives for our possible installs in the drama studio and hall.

I have a script which runs on the server and uses psshutdown from the SysInternal suite. If you want the script then let me know and I will post it (I don't have access at the moment). Essentially is reads a text file containing a list of classrooms and individual machines, pings them to see if it is alive and then runs psshutdown against the machine. I also use pskill to kill the screensaver as our machines take an age to shutdown if a screensaver is running. I also use poweroff3 (http://users.telenet.be/jbosman/poweroff/poweroff.htm) as a service to shut the machines down at 9pm. This means that they will go off even if they are isolated from the network for some reason. That said I did this before I know about shutdownertron and I suspect I would be looking seriously at that for a new setup.

If you choose to go for a CCNA the Open University offers a course, it takes you through the whole thing in 9 months. You do need to attend 4 compulsory day schools, where I think you now have 1/2 day of teaching and then an end of block exam. You do need to arrange for the final CCNA exam once the course has finished, you are put in to a good position to take it. You can even go as far as taking an CCNP should you wish. I went down this route and it suited me just fine as it gave a balance between self paced and self motivated study and evening classes over 2 school years. Office 2010 since the summer, before that we were on Office XP & 2003. We do also provide OpenOffice or LibreOffice for those who use it at home and still want to keep using it (me included).

You could write a script in Expect (Expect), it lets you automate things like ssh, telnet, etc, which would otherwise be interactive. I will see if I can find a script I was playing with to shut our iMacs down. I never actually used it in anger as I realised that by the time I would be running the script they would have gone to sleep and would not respond. PM me it I don't get back to you in a day or so.

I had a similar problem and used a script which was something like this. Forgive any errors as I don't have access to the actual script I used, just a similar one which I have just tweaked for you.
